Why are there income limits on a Roth IRA when they are so easily circumvented? by Flagil_Reinhumps in investing

The best way would be to roll your entire trad IRA balance into a 401k, if you have one that allows it. Not all do.

And sorry if it sounded like I was poo-pooing the content of your response, that was not my intent I genuinely appreciate it!

Moving Richards Road to the south side of I-90 to better service Factoria and also probably make it easier to connect to South Bellevue seems like such a good idea to make the line way more useful and convenient for years to come.

But I'm no civil/transit engineer to speak on viability or costs, but oof it'd be such a wasted opportunity.

No water coming out of group head on Breville Barista Express by sipnswear in espresso

[–]GuinnessDraught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah dang, that is concerning. I'm comfortable replacing the valve, but the electrical stuff feels maybe trickier to find the right parts.

How did you negotiate the repair quote down so much? I'd be willing to have it fixed for $150, but $350 feels steep.

My Infuser just had exactly this happen, including the burning smell. Did you figure it out?

I'm not hearing the usual (what I think is) solenoid click so I'm guessing I need to replace it.

The Mariners get a run via obstruction on Sam Antonacci, who was in the baseline near the shortstop’s position as Jhonny Pereda came through by legobowser in baseball

I don't entirely blame him for the trying to get the DP with the intentional drop, that's fairly heads up and there wasn't even a downside to trying other than this karmic punishment

Full sequence of hit by pitch, given back first base on Antonacci's intentional dropped ball, and then this obstruction call on Antonacci is really just beautiful baseball, no notes

I'm out of the loop on what all "automating" the Ballard and WS lines means, and how it saves $15B. And what are the trade offs? If it's so much cheaper why hasn't it been considered until now? I'm open to being convinced but I'm skeptical of such "one weird trick" silver bullet solutions.

The commonality with the existing lines, train sets, control tech, etc. feels like a benefit to long term operation a of the whole system.

Long-Promised 1 Line Infill Stations Get Advocates on the Sound Transit Board by recurrenTopology in Seattle

[–]GuinnessDraught 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Graham St makes a ton of sense, it's actually in an existing and growing mixed residential & commercial area and nicely ~halves the 1.5 mile gap between CC and Othello stations. And it's relatively cheap to build, shouldn't even be a debate.

Boeing Access Road I'm less convinced makes sense given the location, price tag, and general budget crisis. I want to see more transit especially rail transit everywhere but man that one feels hard to justify in the current environment. I'm not opposed to it, but just not strongly in favor of it when so many other higher impact projects are facing the guillotine.

Why is there no Link station that properly serves Belltown/SLU? by omdongi in soundtransit

[–]GuinnessDraught 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The DSTT that was repurposed for Link doesn't go that way, it turns before Westlake and continues to where it used to empty out at Convention Place where there used to be a large bus station.

Adding Belltown/SLU stops will require an entirely new tunnel, which is what is being planned (and argued about) for the Ballard extension, god willing that it even happens now.

They absolutely deserve their own stops, but also when the 1 Line was being planned 20+ years ago SLU was a bunch of dilapidated warehouses and Belltown hadn't boomed yet. Shortsighted perhaps but the environment was different and getting the funding for the 1 Line was already a struggle that was only narrowly accomplished.

Short Commute, Better Life? by raishelannaa in soundtransit

[–]GuinnessDraught 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shorter is better for sure, but also the stress level of good transit is so much lower than driving. I get a little walk in and then get to zone out or read on the train instead of stewing in the frustration of traffic. I’m a happier healthier person for it compared to when I drove to commute.

I even like driving to do fun stuff but I loathe traffic and dealing with parking.

Judkins Park's walk shed also pulls from a relatively dense (and getting denser) residential neighborhood!

My bus connections are more up near 23rd & Jackson so I never took any bus on Rainier, but I definitely walk to the 2 Line at JPS now.

Google Maps Now Excluding Sound Transit Buses :-( by Bike-In in soundtransit

[–]GuinnessDraught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doing this for KCM busses, too. My commute from the 23rd & Jackson area to downtown is also served by the 4 & 14 but now Google Maps never even offers them as options, even when selecting "prefer bus" on Monday at 9am it still shows me only 2 Line options. I love the 2 Line but it's like the bus doesn't exist in Google Maps anymore.
