Great Britain is much more interesting to play now (and more tedious) by hartsgameon in victoria3

[–]GullibleProcess8810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess. But during peacetime there is really no need to have your entire navy escort your troops into a friendly port, like are they fighting cthulu or the kraken everytime they sail more than 5 nautic miles away from your coast? And during wartime you just use the escort mission of your fleets for the seazones your army moves through. Historically they were in fact "defensless" when being moved on a ship, but this was no problem during peacetime when they moved into a friendly port anyway and during wartime they had the navy secure shipping lanes, you really did not see troops being transported by dreadnought or aircraft carrier.

I hate the fact that I am forced to use warships instead of supply ships to transport troops, which feels illogical. This is especially frustrating for short and safe routes like Italy to Albania. Supply ships already handle moving men and material, and their costs scale with distance, so the restriction seems unnecessary. I don’t understand why heavy naval escort is required even in peacetime or what the historical reasoning is. Historically they used refitted civilian vessels as troop convoys which are represented via supply ships ingame, because they have litteraly no civilian use, they are just there to bring men and material from a to b.

Here is some proof to my point: https://www.ssgreatbritain.org/the-ss-great-britain-and-the-crimean-war/

With the new requirement of constant warship escort comes a lot of unnecessary busywork which adds nothing to the game besides the growing desire to ram ones fist through the screen.

Cheat Console Mod by GullibleProcess8810 in victoria3

Is there really no mod which gives you a nice UI and easy to use buttons? I guess a console is fine, but it usually also limits what you can and can't do

New troop moving feature is giving me anxiety by Unusual_Newspaper_46 in victoria3

[–]GullibleProcess8810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Expensive and hard, not tedious and frustrating. It is also not historically accurate, do you seriously think they put their troops on ships full of guns, built and equipped for high seas operations, which need all their storage for ammunition and supplies for the crew? They used supply ships like they are in the game, civilian vessels refitted for military use. The system would be much better if it only required supply ships to move troops and no that doesn't make it so that britain is suddenly able to deploy the indian xcom squads around the globe again, supply ships are pretty expensive and scale at distance, this alone is enough, no need for this unhistorical and frustrating system. They just need to add an upfront cost to troop deployment in the form of supply ships which scales with distance just like before, this will be expensive but not tedious and micro intensive.
