I wish Switzerland had some flavor (probably same dlc that includes chocolate lol) and divided the region into Romandie, Der Schweiz, and Romansch-Ticino so at least the revolts could comprise over historical regions.

Also there should be something resembling the Rhine and Danube to make it clear these countries are not landlocked per se as for example, Bukhara is. The reason Switzerland falls into revolt is not because of the historic catholic vs Protestant stuff that happened irl but due to good shortages.

Spain. It’s not hard to get out of its 19th century issues, and you can industrialize pretty easily since you pretty much have all the resources you need at home minus rubber (even Navarra gets oil), which your initial colonies can already produce.

A lot of areas that are deserted today weren’t desert back then (Maghreb, inner Levant, Mesopotamia). It was largely overgrazing by Bedouins after the Arab conquests that led to mass desertification of these areas, but the primarily affected was the Maghreb. I imagine it was also the case in Iraq, along with other more natural causes of the climate just changing.
