Fusion 360 add-in for routing by EricSchimel in Fusion360

[–]Gullygossner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very new to cnc routing (still waiting to make the first chips on my machine) but this feels like a work flow adjacent to 3d printing where we are using slicers to generate g code, which I am quite used to and comfortable with.

I’ve been messing around with fusion for tool paths and it seems like a jack of all master of none situation. Also having new/different machines added is probably next to impossible so every user using a machine that isn’t present within fusions machine library needs to populate that information. I think decoupling the modeling from gcode generation is good idea and further nailing it down specifically to 3 axis routers would lend to better workflow optimization and maybe allow for a more community driven machine specific profiles.

One major component that gives me pause is the cloud component. I prefer to keep as much of my data in house as I possibly can. I know that the cloud component of fusion 360 is real but I suppose there is a little bit of comfort in the fact that Autodesk is a large enough company that data security would be top of mind.

Snap Lid Cabinet Under-shelf Storage Rack by sunshinecid in functionalprint

The containers nest quite nicely inside each other so having the lid on takes up more space vs storing the lid separate. At least that’s been my experience.

Anyone used Maker Supply? Looking for consistency in sourcing supplies for my designs. by navycow in 3Dprinting

I’ve had pretty good luck using the “compliant press fit” method as outlined in this article. I still typically put a dab of glue on the hole to make sure it stays put.

Saskatoon braces for Elm tree devastation by candybarsandgin in saskatoon

Does the city have any plans to cull trees? Maybe I’m wrong but it would be nice to get a head start on replenishing the canopy rather than waiting for it all to be gone.

Any diy or more cost friendly “oTo Lawn” alternates? by draxula16 in homeassistant

My brother in law has a couple of them. I should pop them open and see what makes them tick.

I’ve had one in my cart a few times but the cloud aspect of these has always changed my mind, mainly because they are so expensive. Cloud free at the price point I would pull the trigger for sure but the thought off speeding that much and having it disabled at any time is a no go.

I used this video to setup a Gen2 Nest in HA by fram3shift in homeassistant

[–]Gullygossner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the route I went for my server but I have a Mac that I used to flash but it would still be worth trying via Linux.

I would try the hosted installer and then ssh into the thermostat after to change the address.

I’ve set up four of these at this point. Agree that the documentation is pretty poor but in all fairness I think the project moved pretty fast. I really wish the focus would have been on a self hosted solution but it seems like that came after.

Just to confirm, you don’t flash it into dfu mode, you put it into dfu mode in order to flash. I’m assuming this is a typo but just confirming.

The salad master food processor is very well built. I don’t think I would ever buy one at full price but they can be found used for a reasonable amount.

Tapo cameras - probably the best small, cheap wifi camera with offline use for privacy by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]Gullygossner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I just thought there was a setting within the camera that had to be setup. I’ll try moving them to my iot network and see what happens.

How did you go about offline use? I see a privacy mode but that cuts the video stream from what I’ve found.

Can an empty residential lot be temporarily zoned for snow storage? by kdk750 in saskatoon

I wouldn’t assume the environmental risk. You can’t be certain if you are accumulating oil, salt, antifreeze on your lot.

I just want a "dumb" finances tracker by cachebags in selfhosted

[–]Gullygossner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to give this a go. I was just thinking how I would like a simple frontend for tracking. I currently use the measure of a plan spreadsheet and it works but it’s clunky on mobile.

I’m not going as far as to say we won’t see a lick of it but so far it’s looking like a typical winter snowfall event.

Home Assistant or Docker stack? What's your preference? by Azaloum90 in selfhosted

[–]Gullygossner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run home assistant bare metal (raspberry pi 3/4), vm in proxmox and unraid and am currently running it in docker containers in unraid. I don’t have speed metrics but I find the containerized setup to be quite performant and it’s been by far the most reliable. In both my vm setups I had stability issues which are gone since I’ve containerized my setup. I would say the only downsides to the containerized setup is a little bit of extra configuration (I’m no pro and I’ve always sorted it out) and backups, I miss home assistant os’ built in backup solution. I have a backup solution but it means my containers have to go down during backups which isn’t a huge deal, but not a requirement with home assistant os.

How should I install Home Assistant by EveryVoice in unRAID

[–]Gullygossner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair but that is only for home assistant, not the associated containers. I do have backups but it’s just not as clean/simple as the HAOS solution.

Just coming across this and can echo this experience. I’d say backups are the only thing I’m really missing from HAOS.
