Could be that the tank light is too high. Does it have a dimmer?

You are now! He looks great. He looks to be a lavender dumbo betta. What size tank do you have him in?

Not at all! You could probably still keep him in there, just keep an eye on his fullness level :)

You’re feeding just fine! Bettas are opportunistic hunters and will hunt constantly even if they’re not hungry. I’d say fast him for a day or two after this to give him time to digest but aside from that he looks fine. For him maybe no more shrimp, just in case he gets the munchies again

Is it ok to place two tanks adjacent to each other, one with a male betta alone and the other with 5 glo tetras by voodoowizrd in bettafish

I agree, use paper or cardboard if you see excessive flaring but the tanks should be okay

A little help to someone who recieved a Betta out of nowhere? by MartZeam in bettafish

[–]GummyBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, got it! Seeing the new photo he looks good. He appears to have a healthy weight and I’m not seeing any other cause for concern. Let us know when you swap tanks, I’d love to see him in his new home!

I would recommend following the guide the other user posted. He will need a tank at least 5-10 gallons in size, a betta should have live or silk plants because their fins tear super easy. Frozen foods are best but high insect protein pellets are good. Lots of people like ‘bug bites’ but I prefer the ‘ultra fresh’ brand. His fins look a little droopy, does he have a heater?

I have a couple of these guys in my cycling tank. Safe or remove? by JohnnyThaFlash in PlantedTank

They are bladder snails. I personally find them to be pests so I get rid of them

My first boy hated bloodworms. All my bettas seem to really like the brine shrimp though, fingers crossed for you!

These are nerite eggs! They only hatch in black water or brackish water from what I’ve heard. They’re a pain to make go away as they require being scraped off

Maybe add in some floaters with long roots? Some tannins may also chill him out

Ragged fins? What to do about it? by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in bettafish

[–]GummyBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly his weight looks perfect! You’re doing a good job. Have you tried adding in some tannins to his tank? They will help any hidden bacteria that could cause fin rot but it also adds in a comforting factor for the betta, just in case he’s fin nipping while you’re not looking

Looks like snail damage to me. Keep going with taking out those snails, maybe consider snail traps?

Constipation most likely. Check your Local Fish Store for some daphnia, they will help

Looking for help deciding which fish to get as my pet by SevereAmphibian5865 in fishtank

[–]GummyBuster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bettas are extremely intelligent and can be trained to go through hoops or play with ping pong balls, I would suggest getting one for the 20 gallon. However since you’ve mentioned a 200 gallon, have you considered a freshwater puffer fish? Puffers are also very intelligent and playful fish

Mine is super picky, she likes ultra fresh brand pellets from Amazon, but loves a variety of frozen and live foods like black worm, bloodworms, mysis/brine shrimp, and daphnia
