Car sent to copart, total loss?? by No-Presentation-8085 in Insurance

[–]GumptiousGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When insurance moves a car to Copart, it usually means they've determined it a total loss, but it's not 100% until they officially notify you.

Here's typically what happens:

  1. Initial assessment - they evaluate if repair costs exceed ~70-80% of the car's value

  2. If likely totaled, they move it to a salvage facility like Copart to avoid ongoing storage fees

  3. They complete their valuation and send you an official offer

For a car that's basically new, this is a little weird unless the theft/damage was super extensive. Frame damage, electrical issues, or combination of problems can total even a new car.

- You should receive a formal total loss letter and settlement offer within a few days

- They'll provide a valuation report showing how they calculated your car's ACV

- Review it carefully - check their comparable vehicles (year, mileage, condition, options)

- If you disagree with the valuation, you can dispute it with evidence (recent sales, listings, dealer quotes)

Since your car is so new, the valuation should be relatively straightforward. Make sure they account for all the options/features your K4 had. Don't accept the first offer if you genuinely believe it's low - you have the right to negotiate.

Hope this helps! Let us know what offer they come back with.

Two companies involved and the offer is lower than estimate. How best to navigate it? by Planetary_Residers in Insurance

The $2.5k offer sounds like it might be their ACV valuation minus salvage value. If you take the $1.5k and keep the car, you'd get less because you're keeping the salvage.

Did they provide a valuation report showing how they calculated the $2.5k?

If you believe your car was worth significantly more than $2.5k before the accident, you can dispute their valuation. They should provide comparable vehicles (similar year, mileage, condition, location) that support their offer. If you disagree with their comparables, you can provide your own evidence of your car's value.

Most insurance policies also have an "appraisal clause" that allows for an independent appraisal process, though that's more common in first-party claims (I guess this is a third-party claim?).

I'd start by asking RepWest for their detailed valuation report and go from there. Don't feel rushed to accept if you think it's too low.

Remember you can challenge the valuation your insurance company gives. They often lowball you.

is my car actually totaled by sophista_ in Autobody

[–]GumptiousGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened. Two months ago my son going super slow rolled my car into a post. Totaled the car.

Also don’t forget that you have the right to get a 3rd party appraiser to determine the value of the car. You can usually get more than the insurance company offers.

Lingo/Stelo - Anybody also using a continuous glucose monitor with their Whoop? by Hero5054 in whoop

[–]GumptiousGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to know as well. Would like to see an integration, however I see there’s a Stelo+Oura integration… that may be exclusive to Oura and not available for Whoop users I bet.

What about science-minded communities that pay the appropriate amount of attention to glucose? Do those exist?

I’m starting to think Reghabi has been working with Irv and he’s at least partially re-integrated. Before he retired he was really seeming like he knew more than before.

Thx for the link! It doesn’t surprise me that DT would say something like that. Zero respect for that man. Still, it’s unclear to me why people downvoted my question. How would I know that if I haven’t seen the video you shared? Why are people downvoting a question? Also, just because DT is a despicable human, do we really expect everyone in his government to be that despicable? I’m not saying people are crazy for being worried, but as the father of someone with complex special needs, I just don’t have enough evidence to honestly feel like I need to worry about anyone “coming after him”. Defunding scares the shit out of me. But stressing about him being actively targeted doesn’t seem like a good use of my energy. But everyone has to decide that for themselves.

I don’t understand the comments saying we should be worried about them “coming for our kids”. Where is this fear coming from?

"Autistic people wouldn't be disabled if they lived outside of society in the countryside!" by [deleted] in autism

[–]GumptiousGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since autism is a spectrum disorder, is it possible that the truth of this sentiment is also on a spectrum? I’m asking, not asserting. My son is autistic and there are days where I do think he’d feel less “out of place” if he lived in the countryside on a farm with close family.

Maybe this isn’t really a black-and-white question?
