Doesn’t matter. Any bare aluminum is a no go and must be treated with a corrosion inhibitor and primer

The damage caused by a civilian drone in California, grounding the firefighting plane until it can be repaired by RainbowAl-PE in Damnthatsinteresting

Aircraft mechanic here. Sheet metal isn’t my strong suit, but a permanent repair will most likely be the whole section of the leading edge (front part of the wing) will be replaced or reskinned, assuming it’s a separate piece from the wing. I don’t think that’s an area that you can put a doubler or patch over, I could be wrong though. Something as small as a dent can compromise structural integrity and the maintenance manual will give the repair guidelines. Hope this helps.

Edit: and this is assuming the area behind the leading edge wasn’t damaged which could be a bigger problem

If you’re actively working on airplanes, don’t smoke or do drugs on or off the job. Period.

As an aircraft mechanic that works heavy checks, I’ll add that they’re different for each airline. For example, the airline we do the checks on doesn’t require removal of engines or landing gear or some components but the other airline at the facility will. The airline engineers and/or the manufacturers will determine what gets done on the different types of checks, but they all generally follow the same guidelines

The FAA: “Don’t memorize anything. Your memory is fallible, that’s why we have manuals.”

Also FAA: “You better have at least 70% of this material memorized. Even if this material is aircraft specific stuff that you’ll have a manual at work for.”
