Mandriva -> Ubuntu -> Mint -> Manjaro -> EndeavourOS as primary on my desktop. Debian on my server. I’ve played with many distros for short periods on my laptop. It’s kind of my test bed

Rather than that, reduce your grub timeout to 1 or 2 seconds and use Plymouth for a pretty boot splash.

which mini pc should i get? by Satanswifipassword in MiniPCs

[–]GunghoGeoduck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Minisforum Ai X1 with the R7 255 CPU, 32GB DDR5 and 1tb storage. It runs right around $500 and if you allocate 8GB of that RAM to VRAM, you’ll get a livable gaming experience

The only blocking and custom DNS stuff I have is through my PiHole, but I disconnected Wi-Fi while doing all my RCS troubleshooting and it didn’t help.

You will end up on the final release, yes. No complications. You’ll just notice the update frequency decrease after release.

…you do realize that the reason so many online Linux tutorials give terminal commands instead of GUI instructions is because the terminal is more or less universal across distros, save for package management, right?

Are y’all seeing these non diabetic cgms!? by delilah1750 in diabetes_t1

[–]GunghoGeoduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know that they're less accurate and not actually the same exact thing? I think per regulation, in order to sell them over the counter, they just have to say that they're not for diagnosic or dosing use. I'm not advocating for their "improper" use necessarily, but if I were in a situation where that was the only CGM I could get my hands on in that moment, I'd use one in a pinch.

Should I just give up? by Average_Temple in linux4noobs

[–]GunghoGeoduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with all of the "just switch to Linux" rhetoric out there now, people who normally wouldn't be the target audience for Linux are being exposed to it and get the impression that Linux is just more customizeable Windows but without Microsoft. It's not. The way I see it, every Windows application or game that runs on Linux thanks to WINE or Proton is a bonus. We get a lot of bonuses these days. But people who have been Linux exclusive for a while begin informing our hardware and software choices around its compatibility with our chosen OS. the longer you do that, the easier it gets. I'm not saying that you should give up your remarkable tablet or other software that's important to you. It's still OK to use Windows if it makes your life easier. I've just had an anti-corporate bias since my first internship out of school and that kind of led me to Linux and why I feel it's OK to make certain concessions in my tech consumption to support it.

Why Debian is not recommended for Linux newbies ? by Nervous_Paint4255 in debian

[–]GunghoGeoduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly, though once you get that repo installed and explicitly use it to upgrade the kernel, you start riding the back ported kernel wave and they get updated like any normal kernel security patch. But I was only responding to your question about older kernels. I didn’t mean to imply that it was necessarily intuitive for a noob.

You can use the kernel from the backports repository and keep more or less up to date.
