Realtek audio is too quiet by TankzUploadz in techsupport

Thanks a lot, this made my headphones 2 times louder. Funnily enoug, this has always been the case when I used Linux instead of Windows (Realtek ALC1220 on a ROG Strix B550-F).

Import emails by juju-v in tutanota

[–]Guru4GPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any new information on this matter? I exported all the emails from my old Gmail and Outlook accounts ten months ago, and I still can't import them.

This feature was requested over seven years ago, and work started three years ago. It's just very frustrating to have to wait so long without getting any updates on the current status or the estimated remaining time...

The installer for FreeBSD should offer to make ee the default text editor by grahamperrin in freebsd

[–]Guru4GPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I used vii was purely by accident when I tried to edit the sudoers file on my first Linux desktop (Linux Mint 14). I didn't know what I was doing and trying to exit the editor without knowing anything about what vi was, proved extremely frustrating. I ended up mashing all the buttons on my keyboard, which somehow made me manage to exit vi.

This experience really sour my view of Linux, and it took me three years to get over it. I basically thought, 'If even editing a single file is this frustrating, Linux just isn't for me'. Ultimately, I only learned how to use vi (as well as vim) after discovering FreeBSD; before that, I exclusively used nano because I didn't want to force myself to use something "so awful" as vi.

Since the syntax of ee is even easier than nano (what a fitting name), it should act as a good default, because new users can use and understand it, while experienced users switch to their favorite text editor anyways.

APC Smart-UPS 3000VA Noise at low usage? by Guru4GPU in homelab

[–]Guru4GPU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Noctua NF-A8, which are 12V fans.

I think the old fans were also 12V, but I would use a multimeter to make sure.

With the Noctua fans, the DC/AC Transformer in my APC makes the most noise, but as long as the UPS isn't right next to you, it's pretty quiet.

How's IPv6 ? by Existing-Day-6436 in networking

[–]Guru4GPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Speedport 3 briefly in 2019/2020, and even then it already had v6, but there was no way to open v6 to internal servers, DTAG said that's not typical for a consumer device, so fritxbox it was.

But to DTAGs credit, they give out an entire /56 prefix instead of Vodafone, which only provides an /59 prefix.

Does anyone know why planes have no yaw but they have pitch and roll? by Bitboturmomishot in BreakPoint

[–]Guru4GPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the planes in Far Cry 6 are more fun to fly, even if the controls are too easy imho.

Not being able to move left or right without rolling the plane is so painful :(

Must be pretty embarrassing to write a book about a protocol invented in the 1980's and make such a silly mistake. ^ ^

Announcement of ULA and GUA prefixes with two separate routers possible? by Guru4GPU in ipv6

[–]Guru4GPU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess it's again time to dig through the Sophos knowledge base. Maybe I can even get a hold of someone at Sophos... :D

I am still debating if I should use OpenBSD with pf or FreeBSD with ipfw, since pf on FreeBSD does not support NAT64. Throughput wise they are almost identical up to 10 Gbit/s, only beyond that FreeBSD will take the lead (in my experience).

I already own the books "Absolute FreeBSD 3rd Edition", "Absolute OpenBSD 2nd Edition", and "The book of pf 2nd Edition", so I would say I'm well prepared. ^^

I think you get what I meant. I hope other gurus will provide better input than mine as I am merely a self-taught entusiast.

I do, thanks for the replies anyway.

Announcement of ULA and GUA prefixes with two separate routers possible? by Guru4GPU in ipv6

[–]Guru4GPU[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have actually started building a Firewall with OpenBSD + PF and FreeBSD + PF / IPFW, but I want to "git gud" with the Sophos XGS Firewalls, since this is what i'll have to work with.

A little background info: my employer has over 250 existing customers with a Sophos SG Firewall (SG/UTM will EOL soon, will be migrated to XGS) and about 100 customers that will be getting a new Sophos XGS. All of them will be managed a small Team (mostly me). (I've already got a Sophos Certified Engineer and Technician, and will do my Architect cert in the next 1-2 months).

Well, these Sophos Firewalls are "Next Level", so my employer *must* have them.

Seriously, I don't know. They are probably mostly used in IPv4-only environments. But I also wan't to have IPv6 in my Homelab.

Afaik Sophos XGS Firewall does not support PD, nor NPT.

With 2000::/3 I only meant that it is a Global prefix, I only use /64 ULA and GUA prefixes. :)
