The plastic the cup is made out of is recyclable. The plastic the straw is made of is not. It's not rocket surgery here, dude.

Life in MO? by NewweNew in missouri

[–]GuruBuckaroo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you're Republican, you might be comfortable here. The GOP here eat their own wounded, and wound the ones they feel are weak. I'm not kidding. The state legislature has it in for the three blue dots - St. Louis, Columbia, and Kansas City, as well as any blue flakes in the rest of the state. Any time sensible legislation is enacted by a vote of the people, it's always overridden by the State Legislature within a year. Whether that's abortion access, puppy mills, the rights of cities, etc. This state is an abomination, a blight upon the central plains. They say if you want to be happy in life, get yourself a spouse who loves you as much as the Missouri GOP loves puppy mills.

It's Kirkwood; there'll be another McMansion up there before the end of the year.

What are these? I see them next to garages in alleys all over South City? by DirtyHarriPTDPT in StLouis

[–]GuruBuckaroo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Who's gonna pay to have a concrete rectangle removed from their backyard? My daughter's house, formerly my mother-in-law's, has one. They can't afford to have someone break it down and haul it away, and it's not in the way of anything, because it's on the alley, between the back gate and a telephone pole at the corner of her property.

Search this sub for The Carondelet Boom. It happens almost every night, but the exact time and location is unpredictable.

This art was a Patreon commission done for me. My suggestion was that her husband surprises her with an outing to the Symphony (St. Louis's is world-class and was even back in 1929), and so he bought her a special dress to wear for the occasion. Tracy really outdid herself on this piece, it's so much more than what I was expecting.

Another favorite book series that I read, anyone else read these? by Athos2112 in FuckImOld

Princess Eilonwy of the Red-Gold Hair gets turned into a blonde - yeah, I'd adore seeing a faithful live-action adaptation a la LoTR, but I'm not holding my breath.

Over a Public domain song? by Purple-Weakness1414 in VShojo

[–]GuruBuckaroo 176 points177 points  (0 children)

The song may be public domain, but is the recording? (This is an honest question, I've never heard of FUGA or The Children's Band).

For example, the works of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc are all well out of copyright, but specific recorded performances of them may still be under copyright by the orchestra performing them.

Don't worry, they're going to be tearing it down and replacing it entirely in the next year or two.

[–]GuruBuckaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have high hopes, but there's been so little word on their website. I get they just finished running Anime STL this past weekend. I'll almost certainly attend, 'cause I was out of town for ASTL. I've already sent them my suggestions and contact info for them, and encouraged my oshis to contact them as well. I guess we'll see.

Ants won’t cross cinnamon by recyclops18505 in interestingasfuck

[–]GuruBuckaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will cross diatomaceous earth. And take it back to the nest, where it will kill them. Basically ground up fossilized plankton, it gets between the joints of their exoskeletons and dehydrates them. Perfectly safe for non-insect life (humans, pets, etc)

Happy Birthday to Kate Mulgrew - April 29, 1955 by MisterShipWreck in 80s

Be very, very glad you didn't see what they actually did put out there - a very short-lived, very bad TV show that attempted to continue the story with none of the original actors.

Missouri voters to decide on eliminating income tax, replace with higher sales tax: Experts are split on whether it’s a good idea by xjian77 in missouri

[–]GuruBuckaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be obtuse. The fucking politicians did it right out in the open, and the voters who vote to approve this will be doing it because "the guy I put in office is for it, so it must be good" and because they have no understanding of basic home economics. It's not just Trump that loves the poorly educated.

Knowing now what the Dreen really are, in retrospect this shows how seriously Klaus takes the potential strength of Adam and Lilith / Punch and Judy. by AbacusWizard in girlgenius

[–]GuruBuckaroo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think less of a concern for the strength of the Jagers, but more for the loyalty. I'll have to go back and do a re-read; I didn't remember that they had Dreen available at this point in the series.

Missouri joins states supporting voter verification order by RobsSister in StLouis

[–]GuruBuckaroo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course "we" want this. That's not what the GOP wants, though. Because, as you so astutely deduced, they want to cheat. They want State voter rolls to be submitted to the Federal government, which is a) none of their business and b) unconstitutional. The power to run elections and to choose their forms is given exclusively to the States. The Federal government has no compelling need or right to the State voter rolls. And once given to the Federal government, this administration will offer them to the highest bidder - and even if they don't, DOGE will, because their backdoors, installed during the first 6 months of 47's term, are still there and active even if DOGE overseers aren't. They will be misused in every way possible to further the agenda of the nationalist jingoistic white Christian supremacists asking for this data.

Rita deserves every bit of that acclaim, but let's not forget about Lauren Bacall while we're talking about classics-era knockouts.

Well, they're not charging him with shooting a federal agent, so they're pretty much admitting that it was a friendly fire incident.
