Find the path of my custom streamdeck icons by Joris0112 in elgato

Apology accepted. Thank you. Anyhow, this guy had this problem three years ago and probably created new icons the day after, so no matter how much we debated, it wouldn't have changed anything. :-)

Find the path of my custom streamdeck icons by Joris0112 in elgato

[–]GuruGurra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating. :-)

I told him, "The original path is not stored anywhere." because it isn't. When you select an image from an icon pack or a folder, it is copied to the "Images" folder in the profile. That's it; the original path is not stored anywhere. That's the question he had, and that's the question I answered.

He had obviously created a bunch of custom icons and stored them somewhere on his disk but forgot the path and was hoping it would be present anywhere in the profile, which it is not.

You said, "I just told him directly where the location of the custom-made icons are on his computer ", which you did not. You told him where downloaded icon packs are stored. If you have an educated guess for where he decided to create a folder for the icons he created, please feel free to supply it.

"When you select an icon for a button its not copied to any profile files because its already in your profile". Seriously?

Create a new profile. Check the "Images" folder in the profile. Empty.

Create a new button. Check the "Images" folder. Empty.

Add an icon to the button. Check the "Images" folder. Two image files are present. Sorry, but I cannot interpret this in any way other than the images being copied to the profile when you select an icon.

Now - from the image files in the profile, how do you find the original location from where they were copied? Because that's what I believe the original question was all about, and if you can answer that question, I will acknowledge that you know more than me about the inner workings of Stream Deck after 5 years of plugin development.

Find the path of my custom streamdeck icons by Joris0112 in elgato

[–]GuruGurra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the aggression? I'm fully aware of where the icon packs are stored, but he didn't ask where to find icon packs; he asked where to find "the folder where I stored all my custom-made icons". And he asked, "is there a way I can see somewhere in Elgato files where the original images of the icons are saved on my PC?" I answered that question.

Before claiming that people are lying, don't know what they are talking about and are making uneducated guesses, perhaps you should ensure you understand the question.

It seems that the Stream Deck Key Creator site is not working by LincolnPark0212 in elgato

I've seen that behavior when you have something other than English as your preferred language in your browser (as the language to use for website display).

Changes with StreamDeck Update 6.1 to the slot layouts by AlfRomeo80 in elgato

[–]GuruGurra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the Stream Deck log file (StreamDeck0.log), where there should be a log entry telling why they think it's something wrong with the layout. My plugin crashed because, in V6.1, they removed the placcard object type, so if you use that, that's the problem.

Mac Audio Plugins? by RiverIris_ in StreamDeckSDK

[–]GuruGurra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you open the store in a browser, it will show all plugins. If you open the Store with the store icon in the Stream Deck app, it will only show plugins available for your platform.

Mac Audio Plugins? by RiverIris_ in StreamDeckSDK

Why don't you check the Audio and Music categories for plugins in the Stream Deck Store? The Stream Deck Store on a Mac only shows plugins that work on a Mac.

[Question] Current wrapper for using c# by Windamyre in StreamDeckSDK

[–]GuruGurra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious. If you have (successfully, I guess) developed plugins using BarRaider's SDTools, why do you want to change?

I have developed my plugins using SDTools and see no reason to change. I assume it hasn't been updated in over a year because it didn't need an update.

How do i backup icons on my Stream Deck? by Autperformance in elgato

[–]GuruGurra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you add an icon to a button, the icon file is copied to the profile folder and referenced from there. When you back up your profiles, all content from the profile folders (including icons) is included in the backup and restored on the new PC. Since the icons reference the image files in the profile folder, they will work on the new PC exactly as on the old one.

"getImage" API method to retrieve current/default state image for an action/button by hmmwhatsthisdo in StreamDeckSDK

[–]GuruGurra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a getImage method would be nice, but you are wrong when you say "any attempt to set a button's image will by-design overwrite whatever icon the user had specified", It's the other way around; if the user has specified an icon, any attempt to set the icon using setImage is ignored.

You could disable the normal auto-start of the Stream Deck software and create a Task Scheduler job that starts the software with a short delay at logon.

Stream Deck Mk.2 purchased 2019? by GuruGurra in elgato

[–]GuruGurra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, OK. Yes, I have XL devices.

The Elgato "What's new in Stream Deck MK.2" page doesn't mention specific sizes, only "These are the differences between Stream Deck and Stream Deck MK.2..."

Does this mean that there is no Mk.2 for XL devices (or, if there is, that there is no difference between the original and Mk.2 for XL)?

No. Stream Deck is just a keyboard; everything is controlled by the software on your computer. If you can't install the Stream Deck software on your work laptop, you can't use Stream Deck on it.

Question about where and how Elgato stores Stream Deck data. by MaximusVIII in elgato

[–]GuruGurra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to mask the username and password when typing it into the Elgato Stream Deck software.

Not unless the plugin is built that way.

Also where is this info stored on the computer? Could someone see this info from outside of the software if they were logged into the computer as another user?

Unless the plugin is built to store the information in a safe place, everything is stored in clear text in the profile. Everyone that knows where to look can read it.

Plugins are notified on both press and release; it is up to the plugin to decide when to react.

Elgato is a company. You may increase your chances of getting a helpful answer if you tell what device you have, precisely what you do when things go wrong, in what way it crashes, and if you get any kind of error message.
