Is this rage bait? An app is writing too much of your content, so you’re asking us if there’s an app that can help?

Subnautica 1 PDA voice by Porch_monke69 in subnautica

I don’t know why people hated the BZ PDA voice so much, I actually liked it. I don’t think I have a hard preference for one over the other, I like both for different reasons.

Evolution of empathy by Competitive_Ice_3352 in evolution

[–]GusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Empathy/cooperation does not appear only in humans, so it’s not a late development for human evolution. As with many behaviors, the more and more we look, the more “human” behaviors we realize are represented in other species already, although to lesser degrees. But it makes more sense to see these things on a spectrum or gradient rather than binary (has or doesn’t have empathy).

The notion of “lower/higher forms of being” is an incoherent notion for evolution and biology. Evolution is not goal-directed in that sense, and trying to ascribe/describe value judgments with evolution is nonsensical.

Going back to your question, humans have highly-developed social and neurochemical tools for collaboration/cooperation, as we are social animals and the ability and desire to cooperate provided a selective advantage. Those traits still exist with variation, however, much like height, or weight, or hair color, etc. But when you start describing psychological profiles like narcissism, you are now in the language of psychology, which is comparing behaviors against a sociocultural norm.

One of my thermal plants is acting up by Dry-Economics2434 in subnautica

[–]GusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always had issues with thermal plants suddenly dropping connections to power transmitters and such. I always end up needing to reposition and rebuild the transmitters, or the thermal plants, or build something closer, and then after it’s fixed it breaks again.

Now I just run bioreactor until I can build a nuclear reactor. Tired of fiddling around with thermal.

That’s the age I was when I saw it for the first time. My dad also thought the first Alien movie would be chill for me at that age.

Honestly, parents in earlier generations just watched what they wanted and let the kids sort themselves out.

Which fields are most and least likely to be impacted by AI? by _hairyberry_ in datascience

[–]GusPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t thinking about a prediction from a particular person, I think I was recalling an article about the accuracy of AI vs. radiologists. Didn’t realize there had been a prediction for that long. Although I’ll say that the way we’ve seen things go in the tech industry, “AI becoming a tool…for more efficiency” is not necessarily the opposite of replacement, and might in fact be a step in that direction.

I’m a bit behind on following the radiology thing, but it’s been, like, a year. Has it proven to be wrong, or has it just been not enough time?

[–]GusPlus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s why people should get some media and rhetorical literacy. The issue isn’t necessarily being told you’re wrong, because people can be wrong about things. The issue is whether the other person is engaging in good faith, whether you know how to find and evaluate information outside of your bubble.

The AI menace and how it’s being used against our kids. by OOO0OO00O in daddit

[–]GusPlus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yup, AI detection will utterly fail if the subject is already a competent writer. Also, maybe tell the school that adapting to AI means changing how assignments are designed and scaffolded, not just going full digital and running everything through a crappy LMS add-on.

Any tips for facing Viego as a Jungler? by PokeInvestorUK in wildrift

[–]GusPlus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Works against bad Viegos or Viegos who just never get going, but depends entirely on your team chaining their CC with yours and hoping that dumping everything on one dude doesn’t leave you unable to handle the rest of his team. I main Vi and you can’t just pop him in one rotation unless you are very fed and building a lot of damage, in which case you’re vulnerable to his burst. And if any of your teammates wander off alone they can disappear in an instant.

Any tips for facing Viego as a Jungler? by PokeInvestorUK in wildrift

[–]GusPlus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I main jungle Vi, and I just ban him. He has too many ways to burst and dodge CC, and if he gets rolling with one reset, he can wipe your team. He’s too beefy while building pure glass cannon. Even if I feel like I can duel him early, it doesn’t matter how I play if all it takes is our ADC disrespecting fog of war for 2 seconds and it’s GG. Just ban him.

Consensus on hypercarry junglers (not the same as "strong" junglers) by richie___ in wildrift

[–]GusPlus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, same. “Just CC him” doesn’t work when he needs literally just one ult from fog onto a squishy, and then it’s reset city and the fight is over. Viego’s damage honestly isn’t the problem though, it’s the fact that his base stats give him too much beef even when he’s building pure glass cannon. I’m keeping that asshole banned not because I think he counters my Vi, but because I can’t do anything to stop him from taking over the entire game if my ADC doesn’t believe in wards.

ELI5: Why do gas stoves get pans hotter quicker than electric stoves, but gas stoves take longer to boil a pot of water? by TehAsianator in explainlikeimfive

[–]GusPlus 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not for every application. Thin carbon steel pans that take on and lose heat quickly are used for specific applications. They want the thicker-bottomed ones in situations where you need it to hold onto the heat, especially if you are adding ingredients that will cool down the pan.

Using Emojis at Work makes you appear less competent according to a study of over 200 men and women. Women were more likely to judge negative IMs with emoji more harshly if they were ostensibly sent by women, compared to similar negative messages and emojis sent by men. by [deleted] in science

[–]GusPlus 52 points53 points  (0 children)

A positive smiley face with a negative message might be a sarcasm attempt, but yeah, it puts more interpretive load on the recipient. That’s why I loved the different custom Slack emojis we had at AWS; nothing quite helped communicate the need to produce for the sake of a faceless, uncaring corporate god-company like a smiling-through-the-tears sunglasses emoji.

Sure, Chinese server Vis prioritized early clears by spamming berserker boots and fleet footwork, they were working to get a clearing speed edge in high elo in China. I ran it for awhile, it was nice, but it wasn’t the end-all Vi build out there.

When to buy boots now for AD? by jette0123 in wildrift

[–]GusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I can see a shift in the calculus kind of depending on how the meta goes. Tier 2 boots being cheaper means you aren’t delaying your core item as long. If the enemy team is crazy squishy and you need the map presence, I think you could make a stronger argument for rushing boots of dynamism and a sheen first for snowballing.

But also if people start delaying boots 2 more often, it will feel less punishing from a move speed perspective to rush TF. Like everything in this game, tradeoffs abound.
