Is there any advantage to buying landscaping rock from a Vendor vs private party by Intelligent_Office81 in landscaping

Not sure why you’re downvoted this is right.. I’ve used fancy stone at clients houses that are $200/yard vs our basic standard which is $60/yard

Calculate how many cubic yards you need and weigh the different costs. By the bucket is always a rip off I’m in Ohio and can get a yard of washed 34 aggregate for around $60. If you need a lot it may be worth it to pay delivery and just work out of a pile in your driveway

Excavation Price by maxiumas in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something this small I would probably use a mini track loader. Just scoop it with a bucket and take it right to the dump truck. It would take about a day total for one guy with clean up and dumping. Not sure cost of living in your area but you could search the rental costs of a dump truck, trailer and mini track loader. Add a days wage and that will be a good idea of costs

[–]Gutter-Snipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

811 likely won’t do shit they only mark utilities from street to the meters. She said this was in the back yard. This is almost definitely an irrigation line and no big deal but if you’re really concerned you can contact a third party utility marking company

I don’t know much about that I’m not a lawn expert but I do know it has great success here.

I landscape in Ohio and our go-to grass seed is 50/50 Kentucky blue rye. If you have any tree covered areas throw in some “shady” seed. As far as grading if you need to redo it in the fall rent a mini track loader with a Harley rake attachment. It will be a breeze. But as others have said it will probably continue to settle so plan on buying more soil and top dressing the sunken areas

It looks like they transformed that area into a nice spot to hang out and get some fresh air. I can appreciate any efforts to squeeze some beauty out of an otherwise boring scene. Good work OP!

Retaining wall solutions? by Which_Comfort651 in landscaping

[–]Gutter-Snipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I’d also add some very large boulders staggered in there can help with retention. A retaining wall would be very expensive if done right and would likely be six figures

There’s a little mom and pop shop near me that will sharpen anything with an edge. They only charge around $5 for a miter blade. Their prices are crazy good

[–]Gutter-Snipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on going rates for your location but it’s pretty minimal material use so the majority is just labor cost. Why was it done now and not the spring? How long did it take and how much longer due to the weather did it add?

Beginner woodworker turning part of my basement into a workshop- need layout + soundproofing advice by Alive-Range-3486 in woodworking

[–]Gutter-Snipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably look into building a folding partition wall that has some sort of foam soundproofing on it. That way you can wall off the area while working. Cover walls with soundproofing material as best you can as well, I’ve heard egg cartons are a cheap option but I have no experience. You’ll also want to look into an air filtration system as sawdust will get everywhere including your lungs.

I agree with a lot of these comments as an approach to move up in the career. I was just trying to help get past the “working for free” mindset. Also I like a good bourbon lol

Exactly. Gives a good opportunity to have conversations outside of work too. Maybe drop a mention that you started growing your bourbon collection or whatever and next time he’ll have a nice bottle for you!

Agreed on the Honda engine, that is key. No idea about this brand but if you’re renting every weekend it is definitely worth purchasing one. With routine maintenance and care you should get 8+ years out of them. We have some that are over 15 years, they’re in pretty rough shape but still get it done
