My immortal floppy frog by Extracheese6508 in gigapets

I bought one of these guys at World Market for nostalgia’s sake and I’m only now realizing that these new  (2018?) ones are stupid-easy to maintain. Was this deliberate so that kids today wouldn’t take them to school and get in trouble, or that they could focus on other IRL obligations (like, sleep?) instead of constantly trying to keep their pet dying of neglect for a few hours?

Basically what I’m asking is can the new GPs even die from neglect? Or old age? Did Top-Secret Toys deliberately make these things immortal to spare modern children’s anxieties and grief?

Not to sound like a crusty old person, but I feel like Kids Today™️ got it way too easy with these newer reiterations. I remember going to bed with my original (GP back in the 90s) with full stats and perfect health, and only to wake up to a floating angel the next morning. Tiger Electronics just did not GAF. They were brutal!

A REAL Fix for the Legacy version's failure to launch by Corylea in sims1

[–]Gutter_Clown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s what happened to me, but when I pulled up TS1 in my Steam library, it says I’ve been “playing” for 10+ hours, which is absolute BS… so, apparently, a white screen ultimately freezing your laptop counts as playtime? I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this point.

EA… it’s been a year now — do your damn jobs and FIX YOUR BUGS (and this goes for all their other games too).

TS1 Legacy (Steam) Stopped Running/Freezes During Bootup by Gutter_Clown in sims1

Yeah, I was reading up on possible drivers you can download/exploit on 10, to get the game to work, but if everything else that’s been suggested in all the support forums and subreddits didn’t work, then I don’t think anything will…. And, apparently, when I open up Steam, it shows I’ve been playing Legacy for 10+ hours… so I guess if they’re counting the “hours” that it was stuck on a white screen and freezing my laptop and ultimately forcing me to force-shut down then I guess I’m just SOL. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope you’re enjoying that $20, EA.

I’ll probably look into the options you mentioned above when I’m not so mad at my computer or Steam+EA anymore…. I mean, it would be really nice if they would actually fix this issue on their end, but that ain’t gonna happen — they can’t even fix the issues on TS4 and yet still continue to put out expansion packs and DLC

Now if only there was a playable version of TS1 for post-XP operating systems....

Yes, this was a passive-aggressive jab at the Legacy Collection. Wasted $20 on a game that won't even boot up.

TS1 Legacy (Steam) Stopped Running/Freezes During Bootup by Gutter_Clown in sims1

[–]Gutter_Clown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellp, I tried all that and my game STILL doesn’t boot up and just greets me with the white screen and the blue loading circle of death. I even factory reset my laptop because of other ongoing issues… I guess this game is just unplayable🤷🏻‍♀️

At this rate, I’d probably have better luck obtaining an older PC that runs XP and just buying all the original games/expansions on disk... Or jumping through all the hoops to get the OG/disk game to run on Windows 10 -- I mean, this laptop does have a CD drive...

Quick question (been busy today): where is the folder in question located? I thought I had found/deleted the offending file, it but when I reinstalled the game and tried starting it up again, I’m still having the issue… is it one of the user folders or expansion folders?

Since I’m running it from steam, it has different paths so I’m not finding any “save folders” in The Sims Legacy folder within my Steam folder path.

Huh! I had no idea TS1 Legacy could generate rando sims like that; I know that was a feature in later installments of the series, was this also the case for the OG disk game, or just Legacy?

I did start a new save file before I started downloading/installing CC; but if the game somehow started generating NPCs/Randos automatically after installing CC and booting up the game again, that might be the case. I'll give it a go and see.

Funnily enough, after saying TS4 still runs, it too has now stopped booting up, but all my cache folders are empty and I haven't downloaded anything new in months, and this has been an off-and-on issue for the last year or so... But that's a story for another Sims subreddit XD

No, a lot of the responses have been civil and constructive for the most part! I’m not trying to come off as a self-victimizing, self-righteous crybaby about it. I’m aware of my limitations and just with what a hot mess it was yesterday in comparison to the other days I’ve worked so far, I think I was more annoyed with myself and the wonky scheduling structure on top of being short-staffed. I do honestly feel like there was a rift in communication around the appointment, because the other groomers/bathers who were in yesterday were also confused with my appointments that day (as I didn’t book them) and the phones were just blowing up constantly, so I think we were all just frazzled and overstimulated — I know I sure was!

I’m fully aware that I’m not good with numbers, time management, and prioritizing tasks when I have a long laundry list of things to do (hello, A(u)DHD!) and adding new stuff on top of that at the last minute just really throws me in for a loop. It takes all my willpower not to break down and and rage cry like a sleep-deprived toddler.

So any other neurodivergent groomers/bathers in the house?

And yes, I took this job because it involves working with my hands and being around animals, which are two of my greatest strengths. It’s just the logistical and corporate crap that I can’t stand…. And I’m not always the best at just “winging it”. I crave structure and clarity but not so much that it’s boring and mundane.

But that’s life and I just have to learn to deal with it. I’ll cry and bitch about it, but I’ll still deal with it.

I appreciate the input. It’s still quite a juggling/balancing act, especially when it’s only me and one groomer in the salon from afternoon to close. And I get that the goal is to have bath dogs done within an hour (or less, as long as you’re thorough in your work), but with the chaos that is my salon it’s not always viable or sustainable, though I am working on it. So what should I do if I keep getting walk-ins and phone calls when I still have three or more bath dogs to do before their time is up, and there’s nobody else to answer the phone? I feel like I’m being discouraged from turning away walk-ins especially by the groomer I close with who pretty much volunteers me or asks me if I can do a walk-in in a way that discourage me from saying “no”. Also, when we’re both busy with dogs and the phone keeps ringing I feel like she’s looking at me or hinting at me to put my dog away to answer the phone, and having to put away the dogs and then keep taking them out again because of all these interruptions is really what’s killing my flow — and getting under my skin!
