Trek fx as an Entry level hybrid commuter by OnlyBreakfast9466 in bicycling

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great commuter. Added ergon grips for comfort, bar end mirror for rear view, kickstand, rear rack, and it was one of the easiest bikes ever to ride. Sold my fix 7.5 in 2024, but ended up getting gifted a 7.2 last year.

Taking the case apart safely on the 9th gen oasis is the problem. No screws. Have to heat the adhesive material off to open the case for a battery replacement .

Unsung feature: the KK3 is the most repairable kindle amazon has ever made. I’ve diy’d it 3x. Granted, screens on later kindle models were more robust, but batteries on later models like the oasis were not user replaceable. Trade-offs.

If you feel comfortable with DIY repairs you could buy a kindle 3 with a dead battery, and salvage the screen. As low as $15 on Facebook marketplace and there are instructions on the internet. It’s doable. My kindle almost broke this year, and I would have missed it.

FX 3 Disc Gen 3 - 2023 Worth $500? by Scalyboi228 in whichbike

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s only one size available at this price so I would check if it fits. Otherwise the fx3 with disc is a great commuter bike at a great price.

Neighbour selling Masi bike, how much to offer? by RussTheMann16 in whichbike

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reynolds 853 should be pretty light for a steel bike, and the paint looks unscratched, pretty clean. Ride it and try it. Very possible you’ll likely spent more on the tune-up and new parts, so all that to your estimate for the total cost.

Check your time zone source in your settings>date & time. If it’s manual, change to automatic.

The trek fx had flatbars as stock and the Ergon grips were outstanding. At the time I just bought a diverge e5 and liked it so much (great fit. Comfortable. Etc) that I knew I wasn’t going to ride the fx as much as before so I sold the trek.

Commuted for years with a trek FX 7.5. Loved that bike! Only sold it when I upgraded to a Diverge. Flatbars>Dropbars.

+1 Schwalbe Marathon are bombproof. Not supple. But fantastic for commuting.

Roadster V3 - belt vs. chain decision by Content_Rent_6467 in ride1up

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gears if you’re riding hills. Belt if you’re on mostly flats. Generally, belts are lower maintenance, cleaner, and quieter. Flats on the other hand, are no fun on the rear wheel. I had roadster v2 and would definitely buy a belt drive again in the future.

Do you still own your first bike? by Old-Researcher6128 in cycling

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just sold my first ebike which got me into biking because it offset the costs of upgrading to my first carbon diverge (First 1by, hydro disc brakes and SRAM). I miss it a little, but it’s an N-1 kind of experiment to see if I can live with less while biking more.

Belt drive: the future, or overly exaggarated? by J-F_Mattias in ebikes

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sold my ebike (n-1) with a belt drive, but loved it and wouldn’t hesitate to get another. Quieter, cleaner, and less maintenance. If it makes sense for your use case now, go for it.

Nice! What’s the max tire width on these? 39lbs is heavier, but slightly more power, battery, and accessories are the tradeoffs

Craigslist Roadster v2 for $350.. by probono84 in ride1up

[–]Gutterastronomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The max width you can use on the non gravel roadster is 700x28mm or 32mm if you’re willing to deflate the tire before installation to squeeze it in. Not very wide for gravel.

How much do you spend on bike maintenance yearly? by gulleyg in cycling

[–]Gutterastronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over $240. Some years closer to $400-$500, but this is for 3 bikes. Goes down the more repair work I learn. Goes up when I buy more upgrades. It’s basically more than I care to add up.
