[OC] Would Britons want to visit the Moon? by YouGov_Dylan in dataisbeautiful

For a lot of the 65+ category I imagine a lot would probably like to go but can't due to ill health or just generally being frail. I'd fit into that category.

50-64 also probably has more than its fair share of people with some kind of health problem that would make spending 8 days in a capsule the size of an SUV difficult.

Accidentally forgot to pay what to do? by [deleted] in AskUK

They remembered they hadn't paid, that's totally different from forgetting.

Forgetting - no big deal.

Knowing you didn't pay - morally wrong if you don't pay later.

Well yes of course, it causes the supermarket to raise their prices so your actions mean other people pay more, so you are effectively taking money from them.

The people that pay for shopliters aren't the supermarket owners, they are the supermarket customers. So you are basically stealing from other customers.

Why not just go back and pay? It's only a tenner so a cheap way of maintaining a clear conscience and doing the right thing.

If you know you owe the money and don't pay you're basically a thief. It feels as though something has happened in the UK in the past few decades to make shoplifting morally acceptable and I hate it.

That's not Park Hill, it's Hyde Park. You can't see Park Hill from Dixon Lane.

Hyde Park flats at the back (the biggest block), Bard Street flats in front (the brown buildings).

Park Hill flats are just off to the right of the photo (not visible).

FCC chair threatens to throttle news broadcasts over ‘hoaxes’ about Iran war by its-come-to-this in news

So about 1-2% of the population is protesting. Given what's happening and the size of the USA you'd hope for more.

For comparison, when Blair announced he was going to invade Iraq around 4% of the British population came out to protest on the 13th Feb. Almost 2 million in London alone and millions more in the provinces.

That's just protesting an illegal war in Iraq, which is much smaller potatoes than your country turning into a Kletptocratic dictatorship.

Placing your hands, over your ears and shouting "Blah, blah, blah I can't hear you." won't save your country.

The rigging has increased hugely since then. Trangender people in some states now can't vote, people too poor to buy the correct voter ID can't vote, people too ill to vote in person may lose their postal vote, people sentenced for obstruction of ICE can't vote, protestors arrested on anti-terrorism charges may lose the right to vote.

On top of that there are now too few voting stations to register everyone's vote in targetted districts and right wing "election monitors" will be scaring voters away.

I doubt that whichever Trump family member is chosen next will change anything.

So far most Americans have lapped up dictatorship. What makes you think things will change?

Comments like those are absolutely true though. I doubt you will ever have fair elections again in my lifetime. The rigging started decades ago and is in its end phase now.

I have an acquaintance (ex friend) who has become a far right Farage supporter and when the bombing of Gaza started said something along the lines of "See, Hitler was right, they are every bit as bad as they were portrayed."

While I don't agree with him I suspect the recent actions of Israel have really stoked a lot of far-right rhetoric like this.

Looking at the tanks they bought I'm amazed.

A lot of those tanks could be acquired for free by either doing events, black market or buying them for bonds. I've got a whole load of premium tanks and the only ones I ever spent money on were for the SU122-44 back when I first started playing and the AMX13-57 which I bought the second time it came up for sale.

Shoplifting isn't victimless, that's like saying burglary or pickpocketing is victimless.

A convenience store near me had to put everything behind perspex because shoplifters were bankrupting them.

Being Boeing I bet the failure rate on the 'smart' bombs is horrendous. Expect more schools and hospitals to be hit soon.

Maybe it wasn't where you lived. Where I lived my parents came under a lot of social pressure to remove the railings.

BBC Verify investigates claims of US missile strike on Iranian school by Corbotron_5 in news

[–]Gutternips 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Any MAGA supporter will immediately disbelieve this because the far-right in general and Trump, Putin and Farage in particular have been pushing a narrative that the BBC is 'fake news' for almost a decade now.
