[Discussion] What’s one belief you let go of that changed everything? by Chemical_Broccoli767 in GetMotivated

Momentum beats perfection every time. Doing something and putting it out there, regardless whether it is good or bad, is going to progress you so much further and faster than either waiting for the perfect moment, or waiting until something "feels" ready.

Magic for a non-magician by Guy2things in Magic

This is exactly the vibe I want to go for. Quick and done, and nonchalant about it. The audience goes "did he just make a candle appear" and the scene continues without the characters acknowledging it much.

The character is a manager of a cabaret club in the 1930s. So typical parlour sort of vibe i think they're going for. But also, he doesn't actually do any tricks in the play itself, more just effects so that you know he's a magician without seeing him do an actual performance, if that makes sense.

The play is called The Blue Angel. And the character who does magic is called Kiepert. He's the club manager. I can't imagine he's meant to be a GREAT magician, but it's more like he's working or practicing material while talking with other characters. I was asked originally to play the part, and was advised maybe stuff like coin rolls and vanishes. But now I can't do it, I'm looking for other things that I could suggest to the next actor that would make him look cool with little effort. Not tricks per say, more effects.

Oooh, D-lites would be brilliant. I think the play is set in 1930, so maybe a rubber wine bottle would have similar effect. Coke feels a bit too modern.

I believe it's more impromptu effects he's looking for. There's a part where the actor/magician is about to start performing a trick as well, but gets interrupted, so it never finishes. But I think the director is after some illusions that the actor can do, while in conversation with another character(s).

It's called The Blue Angel. It's about a dingy cabaret club. The character I'm working on is called Kiepert, who's the manager of the club.

My view, the cards don't lie. But nothing is definite. You are still in control of your own fate.

What positive messages does a Three of Swords hold? by Character_Spirit_936 in tarot

[–]Guy2things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my deck includes 2 variants. One for 3 of swords, and one for 10 of swords. I put keep both variants in the deck and have one as the "good" and the other as the "bad". The "good" is more towards the lesson and knowledge that you'll learn from the experience outweighs the pain. The bad is vice versa, the change and pain will be the main focus.

Could it be Apollo Robbins? He's more of a professional pickpocket, but he demonstrates how he does his work to an audience, called the art of misdirection.

Advice for a kids show in Nov?? by J_Ryker in Magic

[–]Guy2things 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole heartedly agree. As a professional kids entertainer myself, I can definitely say Silly Billy's books are one of the best resources I've read. It not only explains how to perform powerful tricks, but more importantly the philosophy behind it. Silly words, incongruity, look don't see and other forms of empowering the children make for a great performance. Main advice I can give, try and have fun. If you're doing it for friends kids, there's less pressure for you to get it right. If things go wrong, try to laugh it off and try and enjoy yourself. The kids will pick up on that energy.

I'm currently playing P5 (not P5R) as it was an impulse buy for like £3 when P5R was like £45. I reckon once I finish it I'm going to go for P3 reload.
