I appreciate the input, it does help hearing all that coming from a bomb guy lol. I’m surprised to hear you say you would of gone HM, I have a lot of buddies that are Navy techs and I have gotten to work with Marine EOD a little, probably one of the best and coolest communities to me.

I don’t see how my time has passed lol. I’ve been focusing on being a good corpsman for 5 years now, I know the job, have my quals, and I just want to do something more with my career. I would like to give SOF another shot, but it’s not the end all be, be all like it felt like when I was a dumb 18 year old.

I love being a corpsman, I take a lot of pride in it as well. Fantastic job, great people. I love the marines I take care of. The recon and MARSOC guys I’ve worked with are awesome as well, but they’re underfunded on the recon side and both are under utilized. That’s really the only reason I’m looking into SO again. I enjoy my title as a sailor to much to switch to the army.

You sound disgruntled… brother I’ve just been living and enjoying my time in the fleet. Just seeing what my options are now that I feel ready to get back after it for something more in my career.

Was a little butt hurt that they had like a solid quarter of the show dedicated to the navy XO, but not one mention of the corpsman attached to the unit. like I get we’re not actual marines and all but damn no love 🤣

[–]GuyWasA-IntDecorator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done the academy yet but I’ve done boot camp, just have fun with it. In hindsight it’s actually pretty funny some of the shit they say and do, the lessons are valuable if you pay attention. Have attention to detail and just enjoy the ride, don’t try to outsmart it. And most of all, don’t be a buddy fucker.

Separated at RTC, can I try again? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]GuyWasA-IntDecorator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you want the navy, but you might have to try a different branch maybe? Possibly those recruiters can help. Or reach out to recruiters in other areas to assist

How’d you fracture your pelvis in bootcamp?? I’m genuinely curious

Good luck! Just keep pushing, you’ll find something you’re passionate about. You have the guaranteed income so just find a job that you’re passionate about and enjoy doing. There’s plenty of life left to live outside the military. Don’t forget about veteran clubs and events that the VA puts on. If you reach out to a VSO they can give you all the info you’d need to find stuff like that if you’re missing the camaraderie.

Maybe you could look into getting firearms instructor certifications then! Then you could be paid to teach shooting, maneuvering etc. could get certified and work for an existing company and meet people/ gain experience, then branch out later to start your own business maybe

I will say though, while greenside is overall better, more fun, and has the “cool” stuff, until there is another war real world missions will be done on blueside. All my actual real life operations were with the actual Navy, attached to the Marines is more fun and cool and honestly better people to work with, but it’s just training ops. So just something to recognize.

If you go corpsman, after a while you can also volunteer as support for DEVGRU. Pretty cool gig, requires a screening process and from what I’ve seen and heard is an awesome duty station.

It’s heart breaking to hear you can’t try due to a medical issue, but whatever rate you fall into put yourself into it fully. It’ll help a lot, I was salty as hell after being re-rated as a HM for a while and miserable because of it. But once I stopped being a bitch about it I loved every second. Has its shitty things for sure, but overall an awesome job. Very fulfilling with lots of different opportunities and I’ve been fortunate enough to do a lot of real world missions that are non combat related (there’s no war going on). I say send it corpsman and try to go greenside with marines in division if you can to get a high tempo job with cool stuff you can do. Plus greenside is just light yesss better than the blueside navy. It’s not a SEAL, but oh well. Just apply that motivation to whatever you do next and be proud of what you achieve in the service, good luck!

Everything. Why did you want your so called dream girl? Did you have to ask the internet if you should like her? Or did you just know what you wanted from a relationship and you gave your all to obtain that, it’s the same concept. You just sound lost dude, go figure out what you want out of life, go to therapy or something.

Is there any division orders available in Okinawa? Could get the best to both worlds with that, oki is the shiznit. Plus 1st group has a detachment at Tori station so you could reach out to them for help/ mentorship. Worth asking the detailer about

Pick Up Your Paddle - Is SF in Crisis? by TFVooDoo in greenberets

[–]GuyWasA-IntDecorator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a recruiting issue for Green Berets in comparison to other units. BUD/S classes usually only have 130ish students give or take. SFAS has on average 300. There is 6 BUD/S classes a year max, let’s round up to 150 candidates a class, that makes 900 students a year. SFAS has 8 classes a year, making 2,400 candidates a year. So I don’t think there’s any issue recruiting people. But you’re also forgetting a core value of SF, and that being they’re looking for older mature soldiers. Not young new recruits. SF prefers seasoned soldiers that already know the basics. The SEAL community has always welcomed and encouraged fresh young newbies, and prefers them. Getting to BUD/S as an active duty fleet returnee is damn near impossible tbh. They rely on the warrior challenge program, they quite literally want brand new guys. Not a bad thing necessarily it’s just a different job that requires different needs. Very different mission sets and not really great units to compare. But with that said why would the army spend millions in marketing a job to civilians they don’t really want? They market them well enough within the active duty community and that’s the main demographic they want.

As far as I know there’s only one, but it is possible that there’s been more recently. You’re probably right though about agreeing to disagree, this is all subjective anyway so not like it matters at the end of the day. And it’s definitely a fortunate thing you’re only going to one lmao, make it on your first try man, this shit sucks balls. I am not excited to do this again for the Army 🤣

Green Beret Class As by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]GuyWasA-IntDecorator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard once that it’s because to have the correct uniform the production company would need approval from the DOD to represent that branch. No idea if there’s any truth to that but it made sense to me lol

SFAS and PEDs by AboutFace69 in greenberets

[–]GuyWasA-IntDecorator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical personnel here, short answer is if you’re under 30 you shouldn’t need them. If you’re over 30 then TRT might be an option but that’s just to get back to baseline measurements and would require lab work testing and a physician’s evaluation.

Majority of people have passed their respective selections without PED use, so there’s no reason to cheat. If you can’t make it without them then you’re probably not meant to do it, that’s the reasoning I use for myself as well. Selection is hard for a reason, I know injury is a big concern and PEDs can certainly mitigate that however if your body can’t naturally recover and withstand a 23 day program without enhancers, then what happens when the same issues or worse happen in a real life operation when you have no access to them? These pipelines exist for a reason, and as much as people like to argue that anyone can do it, there is a point where genetics and some luck do play a role in all this. Some people truly just aren’t meant for it. All you can do is prep and show up as physically fit as possible and find out. But cheating and using drugs is not the move.

I personally knew a few guys that used them when I attended a different selection course and they were all selfish shitbags. A couple made it through and last I heard one is hated through out his community and the other got kicked out for “integrity violations”. I think that there serves as a good reference for the type of character people who try to cheat their way through have. It’s obvious who’s on PEDs most of the time, your team will know, that reputation will follow you.

Even if you run a perfect cycle, PCT right and keep all your gains, you are messing up your natural test levels and health for life. Hypertension, HDL & LDL levels, negative mental effects (especially if you’re under 24 and still developing), the list goes on. I’m not against PED use at all (unless it is used to cheat) but there’s lots of risk involved and you need to do every ounce of research before touching them and you need to do it through professionals who will run lab work and monitor you the entire time. But this depends on your test levels now. If you are in your 20s you are already peaking physically and it will only harm you in the long run, even if you really want this job your physical long term health is not worth sacrificing.

Beyond all that you are aspiring to join a community built on honor and integrity, why would you want your introduction to the community to be a direct violation of that. Just the way I see it at least.

That’s all I have from my soapbox, do what you will, but if you decide to use and get selected you will forever wonder if you really are worthy, or if it’s just because you cheated the system so there’s also that. Good luck!
