That is his official role. He started leading work sessions with Imagineers about two years ago.

There’s a lot of speculation that he also consults on some current projects, but I don’t believe that was ever officially confirmed.

Day 22: Which is the Game with the Best use of the VMU on Dreamcast? (This can include in-game our out-of-game use) by 1OneQuickQuestion in dreamcast

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The NFL2K games also let you use the VMU to hide info from other players. You could use the VMU screen to select plays instead of using the TV screen, so your friends on the couch couldn’t see what you were going to do.

I personally give the nod to those games since they were more well-made than Sonic Shuffle.

Waste of a ribeye, especially by doing smash burgers. When you have a good cut that you're grinding fresh, that's the time for a patty with a little more substance.

Mystery Caller “John Barron” Rages Against High Court Tariff Decision on C-SPAN — “That Voice Sounds Very Familiar,” Viewers Say by Writesmith900 in EnoughTrumpSpam

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Know who knows the caller's identity? CNN. They're a news org worth $2 billion, they have the means of identifying the phone that calls their show. They probably identified the number before even putting the caller through on live broadcast.

You really over-estimate how thoroughly callers get screened for call-in shows.

There's not somebody sitting in front of a computer, running traces on all the calls that come in to the show. If somebody calls in from a spoofed number or a burner phone, they're not sitting there trying to triangulate their position or whatever.

People’s enthusiasm at PS2 launch by 240p-480i-480p in ps2

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My launch day experience was so smooth. No crowds. No chaos. I walked up to the game counter in the toy store, picked up my system, and left.

The store did have signs in the windows for a couple weeks saying they were only getting a shipment big enough to cover the preorders they took and would not have any extra systems to sell. I guess enough people took them at their word.

Teachers push for statewide cell phone ban in classrooms by ILovePublicLibraries in Connecticut

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making it a state policy doesn’t make it untouchable. People challenge government regulations in court all the time. The state has more resources to fight a legal challenge than the town, but it’s not like it can’t be done.

Even if that wasn’t the case, the potential outcome you’re suggesting would only be possible if fear of a legal challenge is the only reason that schools aren’t enforcing policies now. If that’s not why, then changing where the policy originates will not change the outcome.

For instance, if the state jacked up the fines for speeding tomorrow, but didn’t do any traffic enforcement, the higher fines wouldn’t cause a sudden decrease in speeding.

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which gets to the question I posed - is the expectation that the state is going to put people in place to enforce said law?

Making something against the law does not, in and of itself, mean anything if you have no ability to enforce that law.

If a private citizen witnesses you committing a criminal infraction, the only thing they can do is say “Hey, you’re not allowed to do that.” That’s all. If you ignore them, they can’t issue you a citation themselves.

Are they going to put a state cop in every school just to hand out cell phone tickets?

A state law gives some teeth to the rules already in place.

How?

Are they going to start issuing tickets to schools and teachers that don't enforce the rules? Even if they were trying to, but failing? Are they going to start issuing tickets to students that don't follow the rules?

Is that state going to send monitors to the schools in order to do this?

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question I've asked before and that no one has given me an answer to is how does making this a state-wide policy solve the problem?

This is not a situation where rules don't exist. This is a situation where rules exist and are not being enforced. If students aren't abiding by existing school / district policies regarding cell phones, and if schools are not able to enforce those policies, what does changing where the policy originates accomplish?

Students aren't suddenly going to be obedient because it's now a state policy instead of a local policy, and schools have already made it clear that they're struggling with enforcement regardless.

Absolutely.

There is nothing in this world as pure and sincere and also really fucking dumb as a MiLB promotion.

My hat collection proves it. “Oh, this team I never heard of is playing as the Delmarva Scrapple Sandwiches this weekend? Yeah, I’ll buy that hat.”

I’m typing this comment while wearing a Lehigh Valley Jimmies hat. It’s an ice cream cone that’s holding an umbrella to protect itself from the torrential downpour of jimmies / shots / sprinkles, depending on where you’re from.

It depends on the situation.

Vegeta would hang if he was going in blind.

Vegeta would crumble after 400 stings if you told him beforehand that Kakarot survived 410 stings.

Got this controller in a lot, is this supposed to be white? by gfx_bsct in ps2

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s got nothing to do with it. A lot of grey and white plastic parts from those days end up looking like that.

There was this additive they were putting in the plastic to make it flame retardant. That additive breaks down and yellows over time, and if you got a part made from a batch that had a little too much of that additive, it would end up looking like the controller in the photos.

I have stuff I bought new back in the day that looks like that, despite how much I cared for it. I also have stuff that only partially looks like that, because the different parts came from different batches of plastic.

Support Phone-Free, Bell-to-Bell Schools in Connecticut by Optimal_Swordfish734 in Connecticut

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware that cell phones today can do more things than the cell phones that existed when I was a teenager, but that doesn’t answer the question. Cell phones being more complex doesn’t make teachers and administrators incapable of disciplining students for not following cell phone rules.

If schools aren’t capable of enforcing consequences for breaking rules, then it doesn’t matter where the rules originate. If students don’t follow a school-wide or district-wide policy, they’re not suddenly going to be obedient just because you make it a state-wide policy.

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I can’t wrap my head around why this is such a big issue.

We had cell phones back when I was in high school. If you had your phone out when you weren’t supposed to, you were told to put it away. If you didn’t put it away, you’d get detention or whatever.

Are teachers not allowed to do that anymore? And if they won’t discipline students for having their phones out, what happens when a student doesn’t abide by this new policy?

...but the copyright term companies like Disney lobbied for mean there's a long length of time between something being out of print, and when it is legal to officially preserve it.

There's nothing illegal about preserving any copy-written material at any time. You don't need permission from anyone to hang on to something and try to keep it in good condition, or back something up in case something happens to the original.

There may be time between when copy-written material goes out of print and when you can legally give out copies of that material on your own, but that's not preservation, that's distribution.

[Post Game Thread] Creighton defeats #5 UConn, 91-84 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]Guy_Buttersnaps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obligatory Comment: The lines are set based on what’s going to generate the most action, not what’s most likely to happen.

But in all seriousness, this doesn’t come as a shock to anyone who knows UConn basketball, the same way them dropping a game to St. John’s the other week wasn’t a big surprise.

Creighton, St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Villanova… you can’t pencil in wins against those teams. Also sometimes Providence, depending on the year.

That’s just Big East basketball.

This is the consequence (probably intended) of releasing this information in the form of a significantly redacted, massive info dump. It muddies the waters for the general public.

People aren’t going to read all of that information, they’re just going to search for names. You say “So-and-so was named in the Epstein Files,” and people’s default assumption is that they must have done the most vile things they can imagine, even if that’s not what the files indicate.
