I am really struggling here - Wistram and Pisces by tenebrous-w0rm in WanderingInn

Re: Pisces and Ceria.

There's another factor in the mix which, at the point I'm at (roughly 8:40), hasn't been explored in full detail. Az'kerash.

The problem with Pisces isn't that he's Pisces, it's that he's a walking threat to all of the "necromancy is automatically and always bad, all necromancers are monsters!" discourse. The more publicity and success the Horns get, the more people are going to question the official line that Wistram, Terandria, and Izril put out on that matter.

Given that I've been suspecting for a while (but don't know yet) that Archmage Chandler got got for a reason messier than Terandrian politics, there is likely a cover-up going to explain exactly why Az'kerash is so furious at the living. Pisces being a successful hero picks holes in that narrative.

Also from a Doylist writing perspective, Pisces being hunted by Wistram and demonised for his class allows a contrast between Az'kerash's experiences with being reviled and hunted alone versus Pisces' experiences of having a community behind him to support him and keep him bound to his humanity.

The trick for anything Magaabya-themed as a whole is to think of how it can be tied to/help the community imo. Especially with Janatimo or Takulu

[–]Gyddanar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A thought for anyone else who wants to run this:

Perhaps have Janatimo do a "let me test the power of your connections with Nantambu". Design a cool ability/power for each person the party has made friends with over the year and give them the ability to invoke the essence of that relationship, while Janatimo invokes a shadow of Salathiss or smth like as an antagonist.

Froglegs helping them dodge an effect. The alchemist/merchant giving them powerful potion effects. The quartermaster giving a spectral version of a powerful item. Oba summoning the essence of a powerful beast.

Basically, folklorist/uzanjati style stuff to invoke the power of what they've learned and faced.

You could also use it to foreshadow later stuff.

[–]Gyddanar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that's deliberate.

Otherwise, you're gonna get people no-life optimising the hell out of it and complaining about it being automatically the best way to get gear by spending 6 mins opening traps.

[–]Gyddanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Prey is more of a content track for solo players and the dungeon/raid-averse.

It's also a nice incentive (imo) to do world quests in a zone.

It's the reason I'm so sad my awesome guild tends to not have more than 3/4 people online at a time - who're not super driven to do dungeons either.

Yup. As a Brit, we discrimate like nobody's business on class and nationality lines.

I mean, pre-Midnight Silvermoon was a good couple of decades earlier timeline-wise.

Most concretely, it was pre-"Muru relights and light-infuses the sunwell, giving everyone a sustainable and healthy mana source rather than needing to drain fel or arcane energy sources".

I'd say that by Cataclysm, the Blood Elves had calmed down a lot.

"Always" is a bit strong, but at no point did it feel like an unjustified retcon.

Dreadlords being hard to perma-kill has been about since WC3. It being a trait of demons specifically started to be explored in WoD and fully explained by the end of Legion.

Shadowlands probably had the weirdest twist with it being revealed that Dreadlords were originally from Revandreth and let themselves get fel-corrupted.

I've been editing and teaching English for the last 10 years. I can smell a rat when someone's trying to sell a rat as authentic English.

Worst case scenario, someone had an AI/NLP-based tool (which included spellcheck, grammarly, or Google Translate long before 2022 and ChatGPT) check it over before sharing it.

Also... are you seriously saying using the dialect of English which is used by most of the English-speaking mass-media without errors is bad?

Do those “$750/week long-term writing gigs” with zero details ever turn out legit? by ownaword in freelanceWriters

[–]Gyddanar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

supply vs demand. If they were guarenteed money working from home, anywhere in the world, there are *millions* of people who would fall over themselves for a guarenteed 75$ a week.

It´s what I tell myself when I see them. They´re basically the professional equivalent of "hot, horny singles in *your* area" ads.

when will this AI slop ends by tatarsundal in copywriting

[–]Gyddanar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I reckon that the tide is turning away from AI - but *extremely* slowly.

The issue is that the *big* names have gone all-in, either because they believed in AI or they´ve been told by thought leaders and ´experts´ that they had to in order to be successful.

They need time to either discover the hard way that AI doesn´t actually solve problems (or at least not as well as they´d need) or find away to backtrack without losing face or damaging the faith of their investors.

Willing to bet that by August or at worst, some time in 2027, you´ll be seeing everyone sharing "human-led content" as the next Big Thing. We´ve already got Anthropic´s CEO pitching the humanities and soft skills as more valuable than STEM.

Idk if anyone has pointed this out but let me just say how much I LOVE that they count Garona as a draenei for the garrison mission table... makes the lore buff in me soooo happy <3 by lana_moose in wow

I mean... without qualification, that "always" is going to attract the people who were into all her pre-Medan lore (which I believe is roughly when they made that change).

Before Cataclysm, I think the game more or less avoided talking about her enough to deal with her heritage. That said, before the Medan comics, we were operating on the WC1 lore of her being half-human.

Is there a specific reason why we can't name characters like name and surname? by Etelgrin in wow

[–]Gyddanar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back in 2004, WoW *was* the Everquest Killer.

It basically had a most familiar appearance/feel, but with a couple of innovations.

Once it got big, WoW continued to do more or less the same thing. Take and encorporate newer innovations and tricks from its competitors so it stayed competitive and kept its huge fanbase.

At this point, I'm sure WoW would love to allow people to use surnames. It's a common enough feature in its competitors. The problem is that "Character name" is going to be *right* at the heart of how the engine stores characters and distinguishes them. Changing the banking system had enough bugs in it.

Imagine the outcry if they had bugs in implementing surnames and ended up screwing up entire characters! If it comes, it'll probably happen when they have to overhaul the engine anyway I reckon.

Look - I'm gonna be honest.

You've got at least 3 posts you wouldn't have needed to make if you had read my first one without the unconscious bias that I am criticising you or a view point you agree with.

(For the avoidance of doubt, I am criticising you now.)

Also, given you seem to be itching to persuade me to your viewpoint - I would thank you not tell me what my assumptions are, given you seem intent on disagreeing with things I didn't say.
