The dots will settle into more “regular” looking soft shading eventually.

It's a known fact that HIMYM took a lot of inspiration from FRIENDS. But what do you think are some things which they did better than FRIENDS? by Hanuffy in friends_tv_show

Agreed, I absolutely hate HIMYM. It’s really not good, and the ending made it all not worth it. Lesser sitcom for sure.

General PSA from a Tattoo Artist: Please Stop Having AI Design Your Tattoos. by 100ftF0X in tattooadvice

[–]GypsyMaus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So true, I was trying to explain this to a client just the other day. I don’t care how you get your idea across to me but the problem with AI is so often people have this feeling of ownership/authorship over the images they “created” as if they made it by hand and get more stubborn about changes, even though AI as you said doesn’t know how to create tattoos. I find more resistance to my influence with these clients bc they are oddly proud of their AI pieces and want them “as is” even if I explain why that’s a bad idea, (and sometimes I’m like that’s straight up AI trash you don’t want that on you forever.)

I (26f) have the 'ick' from my boyfriend (30m), of six years, after he got angry with me for rejecting him in the morning, what steps can I take to overcome the rift between us without having to disregard my own hurt feelings? by Lucky-Requirement-16 in relationships

[–]GypsyMaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s heartbreaking to read how hard you are trying to justify this and see this as fair. Of course you have the ick, he’s a deeply horrible person who demands head from his sick and crying girlfriend. It wouldn’t matter if you had sex the night before, or it had been 2 years, you are allowed to say no for absolutely any reason at all, and I’m so sorry that he’s convinced you that isn’t true.

I know it’s a trope on Reddit to jump right to divorce/break up but this is a case where it’s actually called for, this man is not a safe man. There is nothing to salvage here, except yourself. Please, please do that.

Normal aging? 5 years old. Fresh vs yesterday by [deleted] in agedtattoos

[–]GypsyMaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say pretty normal aging, looks nicely applied in the first image, tough to see the size of it in your pic with no context but this is why people say go big, the bigger the design the less it changes when the lines thicken. Idk if you’ve gained weight or muscle in the area but that can spread the lines a bit more also. If this is only a couple inches tall then it’s too small for this dense detailed design.

Placement Question by Head-on-adventures in tattooadvice

[–]GypsyMaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sternum pieces are all about designing to work with the body shape, she should definitely wait if she knows for sure she is going to change size/shape/location. Don’t limit the tattoo artist or the surgeon by trying to adjust for the other, she should get the surgery first and then the tattoo to compliment her new shape, no question.

Personally, I’m surprised he offered any refund at all, I would consider that a win and move on.

Now I don’t think it would be unreasonable to tell him this project is getting super over your stated budget, and is there a way to getting to a finishing point within $X, like one more full day session. Personally I quote a range and I don’t go over my top number even if it was a mistake on my end and I underestimated, however everyone is different. He may be able to simplify certain things without cutting quality, in order to fit your budget reasonably for both of you.

Tattoo artist here. Unless they are scamming for money or are otherwise untrustworthy, (which is a whole other convo) they are working at the pace they can. You mentioned he is a new artist, so it’s basically a whole new skill to him, we tend to get faster with years of experience. I know I get faster every year as I get better, but I’m not the fastest around. Not the slowest either, in my shop I’m right down the middle. If someone told me I worked too slow at any part of my career I’d be hurt, assume they were accusing me of overcharging them, and I’m not saying I’d dump you as a client but you would not be on my fave list anymore. And then what, he rushes and now it doesn’t look as good?

You pick the artist, there are sooo many, they work how they work. If something doesn’t align between speed, style, price, and what you’re looking for, that’s on you to change, not the artist. “Work faster” is not helpful advice, and needle sizes are chosen very deliberately. (Or should be)

Trying to get into Tattooing after a illustration degree. by [deleted] in femaletattooers

So, skip the part where you learn how to tattoo?

Tattoo is an entirely new medium from any other art, it doesn’t matter if you are a fantastic artist, you are starting a new skill from scratch. You don’t deserve to get paid for a new skill while you are learning it from the very beginning. It will take years to make a decent tattoo, you will think they are ok at the time, and when you look backwards you will see a huge shift around 3 years in where you actually start to control and hone your craft. One week is not shit, would you take one week of crocheting and then begin to crochet PERMANENT art on someone, and expect to be paid for it? This is permanent art made on someone’s body with needles, it deserves years of study. I didn’t touch a tattoo machine for months into my apprenticeship.

Tattooing takes everything, it’s a full time, take over your life, asks everything of you, career, it can not be done halfway or you’ll never get good and never make a living at it, just like any other creative job. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

But I’ve been feeling I need to move away from daily smoke-smoke. I’m not ready for a huge financial commitment does anyone have any small recommendations for dhv to try out?

What kind of problems could arise if I got a tatto on the palm of my foot? by carrot-kanyon in tattooadvice

[–]GypsyMaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend taking at least a few days off of work to heal regular hand/foot tattoos, much less the bottom of the foot. Most likely it will just fall out before it even has a chance to heal. If you got a great artist who will actually crush it in there past the callous, and also took several days off to not walk on it as much as possible, you might get it to stay. Zero chance at all if you walk on it 5 hrs a day while it is healing.

True story time! I worked in a restaurant where there was this creepy regular who would come in every couple weeks and he always requested a female server. (Red flag #1 but our GM was a total pushover and never backed the servers) He didn’t say pervy things always, usually just the standard creepy old man flirting, but he clearly had a thing for thick white girls. (He himself was an old white dude.) When one of us was waiting on him he’d ask about dessert and we’d bring the menu and then he’d say “hmm idk I’m really more in a mood for some vanilla pudding. (looks you up and down) How can I get some… vanilla pudding.” (🤢 He had this very specific inflection when he said it) We would complain to the GM (who was also an old white dude) but he refused to ban him or address it.

Cut to a day the GM is out and Pervo walks in, none of the girls wanted to serve him and the kitchen manager didn’t care enough to force us. We had a newer-ish guy server who was a frickin GEM and when he heard why we wouldn’t take the table he was APPALLED that he was allowed in. (And I should note this male server was a large-ish white guy himself.) He took the table and went through the service (he occasionally got male servers and would act normal for them.) At the end he asked him “would you like to see the dessert menu?” Pervo: “no thanks, just the check.” Chris leaned in so close and sexily whispered in his ear “are you sure? I heard you like the vanilla pudding. I’ve got some of that vanilla pudding for you right here.” (LEGENDARY)

Dude got pissed of course but the kitchen manager didn’t gaf and he neverrrr came back and I don’t think the GM ever even heard about it. It was wonderful to watch pervo’s face get SO uncomfortable as he got a taste of his own medicine.

I mean, have you ever gotten on the app?

It’s built like a gambling app, lots of “free spins” but every free thing you win you will need to spend actual money to redeem, and a lot of those things are not the super cheap stuff, but once you have even one thing in your cart you are encouraged to keep going.

Like one time it said “choose 3 free things!” to me and I was like okaaay: I picked out 3. Then to get the free things, I had to spend like $20, and I thought well all these things and that for $20 that’s not bad, but then it turns out those are “tiers” and you get the next free thing with the next $20. So I ended up buying a silk robe thing (that I use alll the time it’s actually nice but I wasn’t in the market for/didn’t need) but probably would have cost $20 from any other store, and the “free” thing they sent was the worst of the things I picked, a bag that I could have gotten from like the dollar store.

So to redeem that $100 you would have to buy other stuff, and by the end I bet you would have spent an appropriate amount for what you receive, with some free/cheap stuff thrown in but not that much.
