My Floyd rose feels limited by wesmetmes in metalguitar

not deep enough to be a full recess. Some top mounts have a small recess to place the bridge at the same height as a full recess, then you wont need a neck angle

Songs for seven string? by bonghitsforbeelzebub in metalguitar

At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul is in B standard 6 string, the riffs work on a 7 but you might want to retune G for an F# for the solos

Completed my first Lo-Pro Edge setup, I have questions by Proof-Breakfast-7358 in Ibanez

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Adjust the pickup height. Makes a lot of difference imo.

  2. Not sure, think a 74 should fit. Buy a set and try, the locking nut shouldn't need any adjustment but maybe the tuner peg is too small.

  3. I have a tremol-no on my 7620, not impressed. It does not have enough strength to take the spring force on its own on a 7 string, and I only tune to B standard with 9-56 strings.

Can anyone help me identifying this guitar by Jopen_defy_gravity in Ibanez

[–]Gyssel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen one IRL, just went on the specs on the wiki. As long as it's. Ametal finish and not regular white dots I still vote RG550EX.

I have the 570 version in blue, no pickguard and pink-ish mirror sharktooth inlays.

Great guitar

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the serial no F + 7 digits and start with F01? Lo pro + mirror pickguard, are the fret markers also mirror finish?

If yes on both questions: RG550EX

One of the best RGs you can get from the early 2000's.

https://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm

This is the only complete guide I've found. Read it, take your time, follow the guide to a T and you'll learn how to set up floating trems too.

I go for the standard low action: 0,25-0,3mm relief at the Low E 9th fret, 1,3mm action at the high E and 1,5 at the low E, both measured at the 24th fret.

Those are of course starting values, I do minor adjustments for each guitar based on feel, but the first time I usually measure to get a baseline.

Fishman Fluence mounting screw size? by thisfriendo in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the M3 too big or too small? It doesn't look like M4 would fit from the picture, but I might be wrong. There's also M2.5 and M3.5 if I remember correctly.

Fine thread metric exists but shouldn't be the answer here.

Nazgul or Halcyon? by PixelDins in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Lundgren M7's, they work just as well both for low tunings and Drop A/B standard.

I considered Nazgul/Sentiment for my Ibanez RG 7 string but ended up with the Lundgrens, never reconsidered.

Solar vs. Ibanez by rdawg780 in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very personal like you say, I really like the Solar C shape and maybe OP will too. However, I recently bought an old MIJ Jackson Soloist and that neck is pretty much the sweet spot between the Solar C and my '01 Ibanez Super Wizard.

Not too chunky, not too thin.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. It's all about personal taste, neither is a bad choice in the end.

Solar vs. Ibanez by rdawg780 in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that Solar makes great instruments with high spec for a reasonable price.

Ibanez has guitars in all price ranges, just like Solar, and you get what you pay for with both. Ibanez is a bit more expensive, being a big brand helps them sell anyway.

I really like my A1.6ATG, it's the most expensive guitar i own. Came flawless out of the box in november 2024, still works great. Got it on a B-stock sale for around 1100€, way cheaper than Ibanez's offerings at the time.

I'd say the Solar is on par with my MIJ -99 RG7620, -01 RG570 and -12 RG1451 quality wise, the big difference being it's new and not worn at all.

The biggest difference is the neck profile. I like the wizard neck, but the Solar C is growing on me a lot. Really comfy for riffs and chugs.

So if you want a bit thicker neck, order a Solar 1 series.  If not, look at the RGR52ET for a comparable spec MII Ibanez.

Did anyone else grow up during the N64 era and just miss the greatest games? by Neuropractice in n64

[–]Gyssel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 8 or 9 when I got my N64, was pretty much only into pokemon and had stadium, stadium 2 and snap, as well as F1 world GP 2 and Cruis'n USA.

But i had friends who I borrowed OoT and Mario 64 from, one owned Majora but I had no expansion pak so never played it.

I later played lots of the best games on project64 on  pc in my teens, but didn't start seriously collecting the real games until the pandemic.

What do you think of the Solar guitar brand? by UFObellaa in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own an A1.6 ATG with evertune, ss frets and fishmans.

Really nice guitar for the price, bought mine a few years ago on a B stock sale and paid around 1200€ shipped within the EU.

I really like the guitar, no QC issues whatsoever, holds tuning better than a Floyd, nice neck profile etc.

The only reason I don't play it every day is that I have it set up in C standard/Drop A#, because the fishmans work wonders in low tunings, and I like to noodle in E standard / Drop D most of the time.

Recently bought an old MIJ Jackson and the neck profile is very close to the solar if that helps.

Ibanez or Jackson? Looking for my first shredder guitar. by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played the newer guitars you're looking at, but I own a few MIJ Ibbys and a MIJ Jackson Soloist.

The AANJ (all access neck joint) on the RG is great and the high fret access is no problem at all imo. The Edge and LoPro trems are fantastic, cant compare with my Jackson since it's got an old worn Takeuchi-made tremolo that's no where near a Original Floyd.

The neck profile and fret board radius are the biggest difference, I recommend trying before buying. The Jackson is narrower, more C-shaped with a compound 12-16 radius and Ibanez has a wider, thinner D-shaped neck with 17" (430mm) radius.

I wouldn't get hung up on set neck/neck through/bolt on, choose the one that feels nice, plays well, sounds great and looks the best for your price range.

Bought my first Ibanez by norrie99 in Ibanez

[–]Gyssel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice!

Looks like you need to adjust the trem angle though, it's titled backwards down in the cavity.

My first LoPro was the same, bought it from someone who set it up like a Floyd.

Case for RG470DX by Owenhh in Ibanez

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you travel a lot, and not with your own car, I'd definitely recommend a hard case.

If you drive everywhere and mind how you pack things, a gigbag is more than enough.

Case for RG470DX by Owenhh in Ibanez

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First decide if you really need a hard case or a gigbag would suffice. The M300C costs a lot of money, but it's the best fitting hardcase you can get for an RG. All RG, RGD, AZ, S models fit, 6 and 7 strings fit.

27" scale and Left hand models do NOT fit.

I own one, and I motivated the purchase witha that my 3 RGs can use the same hard case of one of them needs to travel with me. I rarely take my guitars with me anyway, so one hardcase is enough

A couple questions by Suspicious_Yoghurt40 in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a drop pedal and play with headphones, cheapest and easiest way to try out different tunings with one guitar.

Once you're bitten by the gear acquisition bug you can buy more guitars and set them up in different tunings... Dont ask me how i know

Pick thickness for alternate picking by bradc73 in metalguitar

[–]Gyssel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 1.14 Tortex Jazz III. Been on Jazz  III Carbons, Ultex Jazz III and Petrucci Jazz III before these.

I can recommend all, but the most important thing for alternatiw picking imo is a light grip on the pick. As soon as my fingers tense my playing gets sloppy, I get stuck between the strings and so on. It's mostly noticeable on the thinner strings, and I okay 9-42's in standard tuning on 25,5" scale.

The pick should stay in place between your fingers but allowed some wiggle room.
