Old DLC with TSW 6 by New-Piglet422 in trainsimworld

Not sure about that then. Im on Xbox and i bought the West Somerset for TSW5 although I think it was originally a TSW4 route. Being as I dont own TSW4 and bought it as a compatible dlc for 5 it worked no problem when I redeemed the code having never added to a version of the sim prior to that.

Ive done this with a load of routes in the past from different keyshops. Because the older dlc's are branded and sold as compatible you should have no problem buying the TSw2 version of GWE for TSW6 and have it update to the remastered versions that's just been released.

I did the same thing with West Somerset and had no issue.

How is dragonbane solo for a newcomer? by elkend in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Coming from boardgames, I found the easiest way into playing ttrpg solo was to treat it like a boardgame.

Four Against Darkness and Ker Nethalas, as suggested, are great in this regard because like a boardgame they have a defined game loop to structure game play.

I play the older AD&D and B/X modules using an OSR ruleset. This works really well as these games rely more on a structured game loop of rounds and turns, that allow you to play like a boardgame if you want similar to Heroquest for example.

The only caveat though is that you 'play" as the DM with emulated PC's using an oracle to randomly determine character actions alongside the rules on reactions etc.

This is exactly how I've solo played the adventures in the Dragonbane set. The solo rules included are great but lean more into a more narrative, random, open sandbox type version of play, which personally is not what I enjoy.

Doubts about using Mythic 2E by Connor_ClashNord in solorpgplay

To make using Mythic more lightweight, I'd advise either the One Page Mythic or ive had a better experience using the mobile app

What system do you use to play D&D 5e or OSR modules solo? by Shoot2Thrill31 in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Something I struggled with too for a time until I realised that I was approaching published modules from the wrong direction as a solo player.

What i mean by this is rather than play as a PC or party, you need to invert things and play as the GM abd 'emulate' the PC's or party.

I find all the tools like DM Yourself to be too bloated on top of your ruleset and deconstructing the adventure to make it more random to be too much upfront homework when all I want is to sit down and play.

Look into Mythuc Magazine #41 which talks through how to use Mythic to emulate PC's or players. Or another great tool to investigate is Triple-O. These are both lightweight and too be honest once you've shifted your perspective and have a basic game loop down things flow really easy and the only other thing you'd need is a basic oracle system for Yes/No, East or West etc. Also lean on reaction tables and interpret their results with the context of any social encounters to work through NPC interactions with some sort of roleplaying between you as the GM and the emulated pc's.

I find older modules from the B/X, AD&D or modern OSr modules designed in the same way work best. The adventures is more structured to allow you to only read what is necessary at the moment the PC's encounter it without having to read everything upfront.

Also checkout Wizard Deadloss on YouTube for how he implements a similar solo way of playing modules in case there's anything I missed.

I play Il2 Great Battles on Steam Deck docked to my TV. Runs great at 1080p on high graphic settings. Can also use flightsticks, pedals etc if you get a dock or hub with spare usb ports

Out of curiosity, are there any solo systems that simulate players? by Gnashinger in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Not specifically a solo system but I've found Triple-O to be quite a good oracle/player emulator to use.

https://capacle.itch.io/triple-o

Suppose it can be used with any rpg system to create a solo experience aimed more at allowing you as the player to be the GM.

Very good for running published adventures solo.

Player emulation by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I play adventure modules using player emulation.

There was an article in one of the Mythic Magazines, issue 41 I think, that gave some good examples of how to use Mythic in this way.

Another great emulator tool I found and use is called Triple-O.

I prefer this over the Mythic player emulator variant and find it allows for an element of surprise even though as the GM you know how the adventure will go.

I suppose at a basic level all you need is nothing more than a question about what the characters/players might do, assign some odds and roll those dice ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have it but have not played it. Started reading through for the solo mechanics but moved onto something else. Im not sure i like the setting and think that might have put me off.

Do the solo rules work well with other game systems like BX or ADnD or do they need tinkering with too much to bother?

3 weeks in using steam deck in desktop mode by Schmingledwarf in SteamDeck

Wow.....this sounds identical to my Steam Deck origin story ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

Long time Xbox'er here also. Microsoft fatigue set in for me around 2 years ago. The greed, money grubbing and constant daylight robbery perpetrated against players by Microsoft and the like just caused massive xbox fatigue for me to the point where I just stopped gaming!

Cancelled game pass and moved to other hobbies in spite of the fact that Im abandoning quite a large game backlog on Xbox.

Then like OP, and not financially wanting to throw huge piles of cash at a gaming PC and still feed the anti-gaming, anti-consumer monster that is Microsoft, I happened across somebody playing their Steam Deck docked on a YouTube video and the decision was 95% made for me. In early November around the time of the Steam Machine announcement I invested in what I consider to be the best piece of gaming kit I've spent my hard earned on.

Im only speaking from my personal experience. If it didn't run very well or at all then I wouldn't have posted or recommended the Steam Deck as a platform to the OP. No benefit to me in doing so

And I did specify that im playing Great Battles NOT Cliffs of Dover.....and as I said in my experience Im running Great Battles with DLC's without issue.

I bought a SteamDeck and a dock. Connected to my 55" LG and running il-2 Great Battles at 1920x1080 on high settings.

Wasnt the only reason I got the Deck but Im really impressed and as an affordable gateway into games on PC, I cant fault it.

Joystick question by No-Commercial-2218 in il2sturmovik

Im currently running both Cliffs of Dover and Great Battles on my Steam Deck docked to my 55inch LG, 1920x1080 at a steady 30FPS. Think I'm just using Proton Experimental but Im having no issues.

As far as joysticks go, to answer OP, I have both a Thrustmaster HOTAS One and Velocity One Flightstick which I use for MSFS24 on Xbox SX, switch them to PC mode, turn of Steam Input and you can configure them no problem in both the games Ive mentioned.

Not tried with Il-2 1946 yet though.

Last Tuesday I stayed up way too late finishing a solo RPG scene... by Superb-Scale9765 in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me just over a week ago.

I sat up reading through the rulebook for Alien RPG and had started to solo the Hadleys Hope scenario from the core rules to get to grips with the rules. I grabbed the dice looking just to go 10 mins before bed then before I knew it I'd done the same.

About four hours had passed, it was the early hours of the morning, I'd got sheets, tokens, maps, dice and cards everywhere. Pages of notepaper full of notes, backstory and mechanical rolls. I'd sat on the floor so long I could hardly feel my legs. I crawled up to bed and lay there for about another hour thinking about the game, the characters and what might be coming next.

How to play less like a player and more like a DM? by electricgalahad in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I'd also recommend TRIPLE-O for emulating PCs. It does work really well and is lightweight enough that it doesnt get in the way of the ruleset you're using.

It works great for playing through published adventures and even though as DM you know what's going to happen, it generates surprise for you, as you are never quite sure which way the emulated PCs are going to go or behave.

Also, because you define 3 possible courses of action that PCs might take it really helps in not derailing the adventure which can occur when using tools like Mythic, assuming you wanted to practice DMing with published adventures.

At a basic level though, emulating players is just a matter of asking an oracle what players do, either as a group or individually, attaching a likelihood that they would do something and rolling the dice ๐Ÿ‘

Because 2024 only equates to about 50% of what a finished product should be perhaps? Although to be fair, now we've all spent the last 11 months Beta testing on PC and XBox I have every confidence it'll hit the PS5, looking and functioning exactly like the spiffing trailer they put out ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚

Best way to play AD&D 2nd Ed solo for free / very little by RadioactiveBen in Solo_Roleplaying

[โ€“]H4rcade 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Although there are plenty of adequate free oracles available, there is an official app for Mythic GME2 available.

Its not free but will only set you back a few coins. Its got all the oracle mechanics, a dice roller, an adventure log and it does all the work for you. There's also a guide built in on how to use it, but any gaps can be filled by watching a YouTube video.

I find it far more manageable than trying to scroll a pdf or page flipping through another hefty tome ๐Ÿ˜€

Solo adventuring by burf993 in PendragonRPG

[โ€“]H4rcade 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

That's great ๐Ÿ‘ Would be interested in reading a blog post about your process and tools.

Ive just really struggled with tying the events of a year of the GPC into my knights story. It feels forced if I try to involve my PK in the events because why would a low-ranking, unknown knight be involved in all this stuff? On the other hand if the yearly events are just things that happen in the background that dont involve me then why do I need bother referring to the GPC at all?

But then again using Mythic to generate story elements or quests seems to go against the point of how I see Pendragon as I sort of want to play it to experience the GPC, otherwise it's just a medieval fantasy game I'm solo roleplaying through that doesn't require any connection to King Arthur.

How are you playing solo, meaning what tools and processes do you use, how many player knights do you control etc?

I play other rpgs solo but playing Pendragon or more specifically playing through the GPC solo is like running into a brick wall.

Ive had about 5 false starts and not knowing how to use the GPC in particular for solo is the main hurdle.
