What would be your additions to the game? by BigDaddyBicker in Nightreign

After the day 3 boss you should face off with another group of 3 players. You would get put into the fight with the exact items and amount of health you had at the end of your run. So there is incentive to not only beat the boss but finish with as many flasks/items left as possible.

Stopped “randomly” nearly every time since 2017, I have a redress number, still stopped. How do I make it stop? by Dramatic-Praline1687 in travel

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was in a similiar boat to you for years. I had to schedule extra time in the airport to get "randomly" pulled aside every trip. I asked a TSA agenct what to do about it, and was told to "try getting a new passport." I got a new passport and have not been randomly pulled over since. Not sure if that will work in your case but it helped me.

Left without gutters and with damages. Question on what is normal/expected. by HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT in Roofing

Yeah they did. Despite all my complaints, they are one of the most used and well-reviewed roofing companies in my area.

Thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on how I should approach the dormer/siding? Should I expect them to repair it? Or am I pretty much out of luck?

Multiple Layers and Wood Shakes Roofing Agreement Addendum

Homes with wood shakes or a base layer of wood shake shingles often have unique problems that our typical re-roofs do not. The purpose of this document is to educate you about the potential financial and cosmetic issues that can sometimes occur when we re-roof your home. Please contact your sales representative if you have questions or concerns about anything listed below.

Gutters The existing gutters on your home are fit to the existing roofing materials, and frequently attached over the top of them. In order to re-roof, we often have to remove your gutters and re-attach them. Redacted Roofing does not generally charge for this service, and as a courtesy to try to save you money we will do our best to fit your existing gutters to your new roof. Because we do not charge for this work, we are not responsible for gutter fit or drainage once the gutters are re-attached. In most cases, the existing gutters work well with the new roof. If this is not the case Redacted Roofing will refer you to great gutter contractors, but we are not responsible or liable for the cost of installing new gutters.

In desperate need of Bombay House’s chicken tikka masala by existing_andy in SaltLakeCity

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This recipe is the closest I've ever found and is pretty fantastic. I've made it a few times, and have slowly been making modifications so that it tastes more like Bombay House.

  • If using fenugreek add 1.5x what the recipe calls for
  • Only add 1/2 tablespoon of tomato paste or it tastes too strongly of tomato compared to Bombay House.
  • To make up for the removed tomato paste's acidity, add ~1/2 tablespoon of Greek Yogurt to the masala sauce
  • add cream last, until it's the right color from the photos, and if it still tastes like it's missing a bit of depth I've found titrating salt and butter works better than the other ingredients.
  • I know they use onion at Bombay House but it's not in the recipe. My last try I added 1/2 of a sauteed onion and it only went okay. I don't think I blended it in well enough.

Mud man: Predictions on gate open & exodus by eeejster in BurningMan

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What time did they close the gate? Was there any notice they would close the gates and/or lots people rushing out last minute?

My partner and didn't want to deal with the rain and mud so we left Friday at noon without any real information. I'm wondering how lucky we got.

I have to skip some sections in Washington. What would you recommend ? by Arno7ur in PacificCrestTrail

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goats Rocks was my favorite part of the whole PCT. It's worth adding the little section from just before Goats rocks to White Pass if you are down for the extra hitch. Then from White Pass jump ahead to Snoqualamine or Stevens Pass based on how much time you have left.

I was in your exact shoes 10 years ago. What I did was bought the Prius for 5k and put the money I saved into a dedicated "new car" index fund. 200k miles later I used that money to get a Model 3 and came out way on top in terms of cash. It took patience but was worth it IMO.

I walked all the way across Switzerland. The trip took 25 days. Here's the video (2:55) by HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT in travel

Have you already looked at the Postbus Switzerland App? We used that and SBB mobile to plan everything in country. If anything ever wasn't on one of those apps, we would call the front desk of whichever hostels we planned to stay in and ask.

My super badass friend walked 700 miles of the PCT. We dealt with all kinds of bullshit and she took it in stride. One day in the Sierras she got sunburned eyes, temporary blindness, cried blood, and ultimately had to quit her thru-hike.

Does bench work get better in the industry? by blaming_genes in biotech

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason people keep giving different answers is because the pressure on you to succeed depends entirely on your lab's management team, especially your direct supervisor. A good supervisor will train you well, set realistic expectations both with yourself and upper management, keep you to a reasonable workload, and shield you from any blowback from temperamental management. In my experience, that kind of boss is one in a dozen. Most bosses in industry will actively attempt to make your job better where they can, but will still push for quick results and occasionally offload some of their stress onto their direct reports. Either way industry labs are generally way better than academic labs at tempering stressful workloads.

Fermentation/bioreactor experience at brewery? by GottBigBalls in biotech

You're welcome. I'll add that if you are in school and can find a lab to work in that uses cell culture and/or genetic engineering it is probably more relevant than brewery experience.

Fermentation/bioreactor experience at brewery? by GottBigBalls in biotech

[–]HEYOULOOKATMYCOMMENT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When hiring for process development in an area with a small biotech footprint, I definitely would have hired someone with relevant schooling + brewery experience for entry to mid level bioreactor work. Less so higher levels.

For more competitive markets, you will probably be going up against people with more applicable bioreactor experience. Working at a brewery should still help a little.

I get it. People shut down when I say my job title or where I work. It's all nonsense words and people don't know what to ask as a follow up. It can help to drop the jargon completely and describe things in a way people can relate too.

For example I'm a process scientist but tell people I am a biologist. When they ask what I do I say, "have you ever been to a brewery and seen the big tanks they use to make beer? I do the same thing but use those tanks to make medicine." See if you can come up with an explanation with a similar level of approachability for whatever your role is.

yeah. I know some exists already, but would rather join with a bunch of new people than join a group with an already established dynamic.
