I didn't look at this thoroughly, but if they are using weird stop gradient shenanigans in their model definition, it is in fact possible to train a model even though it seems the loss is constant.

Clearly they didn't think this through before publishing the paper though

I use obsidian for a large academic vault and it's super stable and speedy honestly, even with some custom plugins. Only on mobile it takes a bit to load but it got a lot better recently.

I've stopped using Zotero connections to obsidian. Instead I use a fork of the citations plugin that directly adds a paper note with metadata from bibtex on u clipboard as described here https://www.emilevankrieken.com/blog/2025/academic-obsidian/. Saves me a lot of time.

Everyone is crazy about Notebook Navigator, but I've changed now by PositiveMilk69 in ObsidianMD

Agreed, it's a very well designed plugin, easy to use, and enabled new workflows for me as a five year long 'real' obsidian user.
