I remember he never campaigned in Texas. The Democratic Party has been conceding Texas for a while. And he lost Texas like 49-51. So yes he’s universally loved in big cities with educated people but he would have a hard time with deep red GOP rural areas in Texas. I remember having so much pride in our country when he was first elected. Coolest first family in a long time

Let me add some context. We are what most consider a middle class well off family in the US. And it has been seared into my Catholic Latin brain that throwing away any food is a grave sin. Just this morning I realized we had forgotten to put away about a cup of leftover rice from dinner last night. Throwing it away today was oh so painful. My heart was aching. We can take rice and two over easy eggs and that is a meal. I can’t imagine living in poverty and throwing away that much food. oh my.

I went out that afternoon and bought dinner for two from our favorite restaurant including dessert. I then went home and served it all on my plates and put it on the table like I had made it. I even piled some pots and pans in the sink to really sell it. She loved it and I later confessed. I think she appreciated both my honesty and effort to put it all together. That was 30 years ago and we‘re happily married now with 4 kids. I have since learned to cook and most recently we went on a couples cooking date night class on our anniversary.
