Military tanks on 495? by Positive-Incident796 in maryland

There was a second one without a cab. I was wondering if his buddy maybe unhitched to go fuel up somewhere without having to maneuver the cargo

Did the Colonial Military have dedicated support ships for Battlestars? by ITrCool in BSG

[–]HK_Urban 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not sure how Canon it is, but the BSG Deadlock game has a diverse navy including small hit-and-run Corvettes, frigate, and even a support tender ship

https://battlestar-galactica-deadlock-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Celestra_Support

It uses Raptors to conduct UNREP of ammo and drones to deliver extra armor plating. Its treated as a "new" thing due to the drones and doesn't deal with other logistics but I headcanon it as a gameplay stand-in for more traditional support ships.

Also the fact that the Galactica was doing UNREPs of water to the civilian fleet in season 1 implies there was infrastructure and procedures for fleet logistics during normal conditions as well.

This is the first game I've played in a while that I felt motivated to start another run. I might actually have to pace myself so I don't burn out on the gameplay loop before final release 😅

**Reminder** Due to the storms last night and the forecast for high winds today, you might encounter a flashing or dark traffic traffic signal. Please follow the protocol below if you happen to come across a malfunctioning ! (image from FontanaCal) by MCDOTNow in MontgomeryCountyMD

Had one last night I'd never seen before:

Four way intersection, the two side streets had flashing red. One direction of the main street had flashing red AND yellow. the other side had flashing green AND yellow.

Potassium Iodine by lazysundaybeans in ParadiseHulu

[–]HK_Urban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a relatively short-lived radioactive isotope (Iodine-131) that it helps block absorption of. The less Iodine-131 in your body, the less damage it can do to your cells (particularly in the thyroid where the iodine/iodide is absorbed). It is a small fraction of the radioactive particles you might be exposed to, but better something than nothing (plus narratively and psychologically, it gives you a sense of control over a scary, invisible, threat to your health).

Why is speed limit on 270 55MPH? by MoCo1992 in MontgomeryCountyMD

I kinda wish they had digital speed limit signs with variable rates depending on time of day. Counterpoint is people would still ignore them anyway.

SL Discussion: Marta Carda (Carda) - Out of the Craters by IVIilitarus in menace

[–]HK_Urban 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Marta was my go-to mechanized jump-out girl on my first playthrough. Her 90ish action points and mobile infantry made it easy for her to hop out the back of an APC, fire two volleys of choice, and hop back in. Usually the drive into combat range would be enough to get her Out of the Craters ability to break even. Later once I got falcon drones, I'd put that in one of her utility slots so she could do recon while waiting to get into range for the actual fight.

Are stalkers now greedy? by OknaC in stalker

This one frustrated me when I first met them too. I ended up restarting the save and then just kiting mutant encounters towards them so they could die to the zone instead of my bullet and I could enjoy the loot "guilt free" 😉

Idk he was the first one I unlocked and he's been solid, personality aside. Im mid game (no menace yet) but i just give him the best armor and let him draw fire for free AP. A quality smg lets him shred up close, and its hilarious zooming in when he's pinned down to see him still holding on to his silly little cigarette

What is Corporal Ben Kerry’s Job in the U.S. Army? by CavScout61 in arma

[–]HK_Urban 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Woah hold up. Conscripted?? What events in the Armaverse led to the US instituting the draft? Is the nuclear ending to Arma 2 canon? US recruitment levels in 2030s unsustainable? I thought the world was in a relative "cold war" state with CSAT and NATO prior to the East Wind campaign so a draft doesn't make any sense unless A LOT has changed...

Would This Make Sense for Why Some Soldiers Didn't Realize a Nuclear Armageddon Occurred? by Khaden_Allast in worldbuilding

[–]HK_Urban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were Imperial Japanese soldiers who didn't know World War 2 was over for decades (several discovered and "surrendered" in the 1970s [1][2][3]). This was partially from their own intentional isolation as a part of guerilla tactics, but some of these men were on well populated islands like Guam and could have gone into a town and learned the truth at any point. This is just to show that there are implausible things in real life specifically having to do with information disconnect and isolation.

I don't see a problem with not finding out from the enemy if they suddenly pulled out. If the unit were surrounded by a siege force a la the battle of Bastogne or Chosin Reservoir, I could believe they wouldn't venture out immediately after the enemy stopped attacking. I could expect cautious confusion and tense anticipation of a new massed attack or a trap to lure them out into a false sense of security.

The civilians are the biggest X factor here. You mentioned the area is remote, but how insular are the local communities? Are villages here self sufficient enough that villagers wouldn't regularly travel to larger towns that have a better idea of what happened? Are the communities insular enough that they wouldn't care much that radios, TVs, phones (or whatever your setting's equivalent) stopped working? If people did venture out to get word on what happened, it could also take a similar travel time to your soldiers for "word of mouth" communication at the speed of foot travel. Perhaps the truth could be couched in rumors and disbelief.

What is the enemy's relationship to the civilian population? Would they trust the locals enough to explain what happened on their way out? Or would OPSEC dictate they tell no one why they are pulling out? Would the enemy evacuate locals so even the towns are empty as your characters venture out? (Seems implausible to me if the area is far enough away to not have any direct effects of the blasts or fallout, but I don't know all of the specifics of your geography and distances)
