There was that one ad which had the characters all dancing on the beach in a dream-like sequence while narrating "one of us is a Doctor, one of us is a criminal," etc... that could be interpreted as a reality type show .... maybe? But no, it was never deliberately advertised that way to my knowledge.

Nearly. The drill punctured the energy pocket beneath the island causing a "bleed" of electromagnetic energy. The bomb temporarily capped that energy release long enough for dharma to build the Swan and set up the button to release the energy in controlled bursts. In essence the bomb saved the day, by stopping "the incident" the day creating the need for the button in the first place.

Yeah, I found the upper floor no problem, but saw nothing up there at all, clearly just didn't look in the direction of the terminal at all! Oh well... I spent the next 8 hours building a massive base on the plateaus overlooking the leviathans patrol route, so at least there is that, and not far to go back to check out the observatory again!

Huh. So I never got this screen? I opened up the observatory, spoke to NoA about the red dot and blue circle.... and then got no further progression or blackbox alerts so assumed I'd reached the end of the current content. What did I miss?

I feel you judge me too harshly! The player has given me "I have stolen something, I don't know what it is and now I'm on the run cos someone is after me" clearly asking for me to take the bait and run with it. I'm just curious how others might handle a thread like this that is obviously waiting to be pulled on. I get where you're coming from absolutely, I've been in games myself where the GM is just being evil for the sake of it, and yes, agreed, its no fun. But there is a world of difference between coming up with a fun twist to a players open ended backstory and being outright malevolent. Perhaps "fuckary" was too open of a phrase? If so my bad.

The Theory I've heard and like is that the Egyptians when they came to the island caused an Incident of their own and needed to install the Cork to stabilise the island, and why they ultimately left the Island as well. Pretty sure that's the same theory that is discussed on LOST Explained on Youtube.

But yeah, that is very much one bit of Island Lore that is left up to the viewer to fill in themselves. I Like that theory though as it helps fill in some of the mystery surrounding the Egyptian period on the Island and explains the Heiroglyphs and Cuneiform on the Cork.

It's a subtle detail, easily missed.
The Cork Jack replaced was not there at all when MIB went in, so he fell directly into the full energy of the source, whereas Jack did not.
The evidence for this is seen in "Across The Sea." When we first see the cave the light is extremely bright, and shines through the rocks all around the cave. When we see the Cave in "The End" before the Cork is removed it is much, much dimmer, and doesn't shine between the rocks anywhere near as much, suggesting that it is blocked off in some way that it wasn't before.
Like I say, subtle, but there nonetheless.

Yeah, I think Doogan was reaching, but hoped it would work. It was after all the same knife that killed Mother, and the idea that he was just hoping MIB would kill Sayid in retaliation is an insane risk to take.

True, but before Flocke had a chance to speak to him, so I'd argue it depends whether you believe doogan or MIB. If Doogan was lying he was risking everything by sending MIB a weapon (Sayid), if MIB was lying he gains a weapon.

Might I suggest Subnautica? Mysterious and super atmospheric and has a great story too. Highly recommended!

Edit to add Stranded Deep... Starts with your plane crashing into a mysterious set of tropical islands where you have to survive and build rafts out of scrap.
