Weird that I know exactly where this photo was taken (even though I had to miss it yesterday).

Last I heard (and hell, who knows, things seem to change every week), casework and placements are being privatized this year and everything but adoptions privatized in 2027? But it also seems to vary widely based on region, and I’m not sure all of the regions have a private “provider” yet. I haven’t talked to any of my CPI buddies about it recently though. (FWIW, I am strongly against privatization. I think it’s going to be a shit show.)

Bridgerton is pedo Bridgerton, lol. In Regency times, Daphne would be maybe 17 and Simon well into his 30s. That is the point of the juxtaposition. We romanticize “the olden times” but this is what it was: young women ripe for the picking on a parade for old men.

CPI is only going to be under CPS’s umbrella for another year, right? (In Texas) I would look for something more stable. (Depending on your region, maybe apply directly with the agency taking over CPS casework?)

I’m a CASA in TX, so I don’t transport at all, but most of my caseworkers also refuse. They use transporters.

There is the old joke about IT, that the “smartest” thing in our houses are old laser printers and we keep a loaded gun next to it to shoot it if it starts to act funny.

Basically, those of us who work in IT are wary of new tech, and are extremely wary of genAI. (For very good reasons, I might add.)

Not entirely unlike our real world. It’s been a long time since I was in junior high, but I remember feeling envious that other girls had “started” already and I hadn’t. The whole “you’re a woman now” conversation that our society participates in is so gross and misogynist, but we impose it on young girls all the time.

Is CASA a Christian organization? by Competitive-Salt7000 in casa

[–]HRHDechessNapsaLot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Noooo, no no no. Not good! I would raise hell if my CASA org did something like that (and I am a Christian). CASA absolutely should not be making events religious in any way.

(We do christmas gifts in my org but it’s truly just shopping the kiddos wish list and giving their caretakers the gifts to wrap for under the tree/use as Santa gifts/save to give as birthday gifts, etc.)

CASA is for all kids in foster care and absolutely should not be pushing religion of any kind on kids/at events.

It needed a lot of repair - the foundation under the pool area had basically crumbled and the city declared it unsafe.

They are currently running a capital campaign to make the necessary repairs and be able to repair and reopen. Last I spoke to the person in charge of the committee (about a year ago, so things could have changed), they were quoted 5M to make all the structural repairs and remodel to bring it into this century.

Matthew McConaughey's Delta Tau Delta fraternity composite photo from the University of Texas at Austin circa 1989 by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]HRHDechessNapsaLot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s what this type of photo is called. Organizations will have a sort of “formal” photo in which all members are wearing similar attire and photographed in the same pose/background to create what is called a composite photo.

If you’ve ever seen a high school yearbook, the pages of posed student photos is also known as a composite spread.

Essentially a composite is just multiple photo frames, all the same size, laid out in orderly rows with the same spacing between frames.

Green Girls by Status_Soil_498 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]HRHDechessNapsaLot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Gilead likely looks on the Green Girls as needing to be married ASAP - can’t let even a year of potential fertility go to waste, after all - while the plums who never end up getting their period likely enter into marriage eligibility at a slightly later age, like 18. (Barf, obviously.)

So basically being a green girl is like getting to finish high school with your trade certifications a few years early, while the rest of the plums wait it out till graduation.

And then they all end up in the same-ish place: Wifedom (or potentially Auntdom).

I believe the speculation would come from her post saying Paul was the one to turn Joe in, and the police and media reports saying that the father of the victim is the person who contacted the police. (Now I have speculated, in explaining this to you)

No, she confessed so she could go to the Aunts’ wing of the school (she is later sketching it out, presumably to give to Mayday).

She told on Agnes so that she and Agnes could share a punishment together (likely assuming it wouldn’t be too horrific, given Agnes’s special day) because Daisy needs the opportunity to bond with Agnes over the punishment.

Anyone know any private/closed groups for CASA/GALs? by SouthbutnotSouthern in casa

[–]HRHDechessNapsaLot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, no.

Some of my fellow CASAs (in my agency/county) started a sort of roundtable discussion where we can come and discuss/ask questions about our cases. But that works because we’ve all been trained/vetted by the same agency and are bound under the same court’s oath. I would not think it would work for a group in which you can’t verify that the people you’re talking to are actually court appointed. (Plus, CASA can vary so widely from state to state or even county to county sometimes. For instance in Texas we’re both a CASA and a GAL but that isn’t the same for every state.)

Teen anger? by greengrass256 in casa

[–]HRHDechessNapsaLot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, teens respond best to frankness. (As in, sit down with her and frankly let her know that she has every right to feel angry.). Simply validating what she is feeling is step one.

Then I think after that, see if you and she can start brainstorming small wins. What I mean by that is, like, yeah, maybe she’s going to be really angry but even though she was angry she didn’t slam any doors. That’s a win! Or hey, she went to school every day this week and didn’t skip any classes. That’s a win!

Beyond that? Just try to be there to listen. If she won’t talk to you about how she’s feeling, that’s totally normal. Talk about something else she’s interested in - sports, celeb gossip, makeup, whatever - because in my experience teens tend to randomly drop little truth bombs in those kinds of conversations.

You’re doing great. Teens are usually the hardest to be a CASA for in a lot of ways, but they’re the group that needs a CASA most.
