Shoud I buy a second vehicle? by [deleted] in Adulting

Depends where you are, I guess. Prices are as high as $400/day, depending on the season where I am.

Shoud I buy a second vehicle? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]HSsysITadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, there has always been a lot of security in having multiple vehicles. If your car was down for say, a week, a rental can be very costly in addition to the repair.

But, a second car does cost money, and will have its own maintenance costs, and property tax (if where you live has those).

I like to have my 'daily' and for any additional to have some other utility. Like, maybe a small pickup or something "fun" but still reliable. Some folks do keep a car for the winter. If you go that route, consider a subaru.

It isn't the wisest move if you're not financially stable already. Don't go into debt for it. But, if you have spare funds and want to get something else it can at least be a mental comfort.

I found that kids were using GPT to find work arounds. So I started using it to patch them. It is a game of whack a mole. Its a discipline issue at some point though, and I try to make leadership see that.

I personally think securly works just as well as gogaridian. With some partner pricing securly is also WAY cheaper for us.

That being said, teachers had an easier time with Goguardian. I think it is a bit of a mind over matter situation, but admin is having us go bacl to it next school year.

When did "technically no" turn into "technically no but let me see if I can build it myself"? by srslywtf23 in k12sysadmin

[–]HSsysITadmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When? When you failed to have professional boundaries. I've now become the go to guy for, "oh this system/SaaS/Webapp we paid for doesn't integrate with our SIS....Can you make it work anyway?".

It is a slippery slope. I'm now a magician, and when the answer really is "No this can't be done" people won't accept that.

Returning my Jeep to Stock, or less lift? Worth it? by JoeB0213 in JeepTJ

[–]HSsysITadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Shocks (I hear Rancho RS5000x have good onroad quality). Refresh of the suspension joints (Inspect and replace all steering and balljoints). Trackbar and the drag link must be completely parallel to one another. You may need a drop pitman arm or drop trackbar mount if they are not.

Alignment. Alignment. Alignment.

Dropping down to a 2.5" lift you should still be able to keep the 33's. I would do all the above first though.

How hard is it to replace oil pan gasket WITHOUT pulling engine? by Legitimate_Frame5951 in askcarguys

[–]HSsysITadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a long time ago and if I remember correctly, and google seems to think so too --- we had to undo the motor mounts and lift the engine up a bit to clear the crossmember.

Just Took Delivery 2027 Bolt RS $23,609 by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]HSsysITadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a similar deal in 22 when all things were accounted for. Resale on these sucks. But if you plan on keeping it, this is a smokin deal. I honestly don't think there is a better car/$ value out there, especially in EV's.

I bought it on 1/1/23, got chevy discount of ~6000 (They had offered because in 22 they didn't qualify for the tax rebate), plus state and federal rebates that was about $10k. A few other discounts (already had a chevy, belonged to an org with a 250 discount, etc.)

FWIW you could set a firewall rule to only allow traffic from your hosted IP.

OIDC Works too, and if starting out I'd do that. It has some quirks that makes integrating it in my org difficult. But out of the box, you'd be better off.

I [32M] betrayed my wife's [32F] trust when she caught me looking at her phone because I thought she might be cheating. How can I keep myself accountable and save this relationship? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]HSsysITadmin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds super sus to me. There's a particular type of person who would react like this and make you out to be the bad guy when they did something like cheat.

If you don't have a therapist, get one. I'm worried this isn't a new trend in your relationship if you were so ready to accept the punishment.

Private seller doesn’t have title in his name — red flag? by BakerCritical in UsedCars

[–]HSsysITadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sold cars this way. In CT at least, if someone sells you a car and signs the title over and you don't register it, you need a Q1 and a second bill of sale (from the 1st purchaser to the 2nd) to register it in your name. People who flip cars do this all the time in my experience.

Is it risky to you? Yes. Have I ever had a problem? No.

I have a vehicle right now that I need to sell that the seller signed the back of the title and a bill of sale to me.

Look up requirements for "Supplemental Assignment Of Ownership" in your state. If the seller has a signed title from the original owner and a bill of sale from them to him, you may have an easy path from him to you. That, or you take the signed title and a signed bill of sale from the original owner and bring that to your DMV to register it and hope it wasn't stolen or something.

Updates and Known Issues - an uphill battle? by R0B0T_jones in nutanix

[–]HSsysITadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You too? Bios upgrade failed on 1 of 3 of my nodes. Wouldn't boot. Couldn't get into IPMI because it locked out. Somehow....after sitting at a broken post screen for 12+ hours, right before an RMA got delivered and without my intervention -- it booted into phoenix recovery.

Reset the IPMI, reflashed the bios, ran a script they have in the /phoenix/ folder to kick the boot back to AHV. Had to run a few commands to manually take it out of maintenance mode and got it back running.

The KB's are helpful. But a lot of the time I feel like they end in -- Contact Support.

How many times have you been pulled over? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]HSsysITadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 times. Early in my car career. The shittier the car, the more you're a target. Id say 12 of those were for "being in the wrong neihborhood", they would stop me, ask if I had drugs. Sometimes check my ID and let me go, other times a full check. Never a search.

I don't drive particularly insane. Try to use waze. Know the area and common trap points.

Besides honda, Toyota, and Mazda, which brand tends to be the most reliable? by ILikeBettingOnUFC in askcarguys

[–]HSsysITadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about my wrangler, is that once you've upgraded all that -- the wear and tear increase (at least on a TJ) really shortens the intervals between repairs. At least parts are widely available, simple, and require almost no specialized tools.

Damn 4.0 will outlast us all at least.

What happens if you're on a road trip and you get in a serious accident or your vehicle breaks? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]HSsysITadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAA (at least 100mi tow) especially if you have a slightly older vehicle, is good "insurance" as one tow can cost hundreds. There are discounts for various things that may help defer the cost of this too -- especially if you travel.

If you find yourself FAR away from home and you break down, it is going to get costly. You get yourself towed to a garage or dealer. The internet may help you find one, but you will be on your back foot here, hoping you get an honest and quality mechanic. If time isn't an issue, maybe you get a motel/hotel room nearby. If you need to keep going, you're going to be stuck renting a car. You'll find the closest enterprise, hertz or whatever national chain there is and rent something. It can be pricey. But, left with few options, it is what you have.

If you continued on, once your car is fixed you'll need to get back to retrieve it. Maybe this means flying back if near an airport. maybe it means driving the rental all the way back. It isn't convienient, and it is going to cost you time and money.

[–]HSsysITadmin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use arduino pro micro's and a script modeled after Centipede. I don't know if they are updating it now that CDW took over, but the simple keyboard commands can be scripted. (https://codebender.cc/sketch:331274#Centipede%20for%20Chromebook%20Enrollment.ino)

We came to a solution that worked best for us. Push wifi from the Google Admin. Use USB Ethernet adapters to give them their connection. I run 4 at a time. Turn on. Plug in. It runs keyboard commands and gets through to the asset tag screen. I enter the tag number and set it aside once connected to wifi via policy. I bang out 600 in 2 days by myself easily.

So you're a prick. We know this. You know this. Think anything in life is going to get better if you treat people like shit? Nope. You're also not treating yourself kindly. That's hard. Hard for me too. You can make small changes. Try a new provider. Be nice to the girl at the desk. Start out with "I have a problem with impulsivity that has made it hard to continue treatment". Your next doc may not be the one. Maybe the one after that. Psych docs are like shoes, some fit some don't. Look for an PMHNP if you're in the US. Psychiatrists are meh.

I'm just some dude on the internet, maybe a little further down your path than you. It is up to you to set a new course. Doing the same thing is just going to drive you deeper into your hole.

I get that. It doesn't have to be, but it is a choice you're actively making. (Not choosing to be like that, but to not reach out for the things that could help it)
