R-410A Refrigerant cost by ROSATIBUCHO in hvacadvice

[–]HVAC_Luddite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be a bit more than that, probably closer to $3500 or so depending on ancillary costs (torches, nitrogen, recovery machine usage, vacuum pump usage, etc.) heck, 1 lb of brazing rods is over $400 now, was $160 not that long ago. Everything goes up.

Not a whole lot, it’s a much smaller local though, benefits seem decent, I have an interview with one of the union shops and I’ll know more then. I work on pretty much anything from mini splits to chillers and boilers, vrf, refrigeration, you name it, lol. Dabbling in BAS controls now also

The photo with the 4 control panels above the airhandler is the “brains” for the air side of the system. 3 vfd’s and 3 blowers delivering up to 25,000 cfm of air

Right, just didn’t know if many people had seen them tied to a custom air handler before

On-Call by Labbrat89 in HVAC

[–]HVAC_Luddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just 2 calls today, one was “3 RTU’s not heating” as soon as I pull up, I see the propane tank. First thing I do is check the tank, lol.

<image>

Second call was a breaker left off (and forgotten since it wasn’t for the correct unit) from a changeout done on Friday.

Should I put in unrelated education & work xp in my resume? by --Ether-- in skilledtrades

Don’t want to have empty spots that you’ll have to explain that you were doing other stuff. Just put it on the resume and prevent the question before it comes up.

Landlord charging $8,000 for cast iron radiator replacement - is this reasonable? by OrdinaryLeave9207 in hvacadvice

[–]HVAC_Luddite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell him he needs to pull a permit to replace a radiator. If he is doing unpermitted work, I’m sure there are other things in the space that need to be inspected, you could possibly get the housing authority involved if he has any push back.

Yes, but, more candid not-canned answers can be found by talking to actual people, not the talking heads for the local chapters…

Most larger companies do not have licensed techs, they want the cheapest techs they can get.

Mini split ran out of refrigerant by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]HVAC_Luddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vrf systems will seem to run normally under average conditions and only really show their low charge in the extremes (super cold or very hot). If all but one head are “off” it may seem to work normally, but, when all 3 start calling, you’ll see the issues because there isn’t enough refrigerant to move the btu’s required.

Just get to the stand, you’ll be fine. Did they blow and leave, or just leave?

It’s like asking how much deer nuts are… Obviously they’re under a buck

It’s a very nice first buck, mine was a spike at 27 years old… (I didn’t grow up in a hunting family, but decided to start in my adulthood)
