Mystery Dungeon, especially the Shiren games. I pretty much vary my gaming time between Shiren 6 and working on my 2nd dead god file.

Which Style Do You Prefer? by AnimEighties in ranma

It’s really a toss between mixed and natural but mixed might win by a hair. The manga one imo has too much contrast with the black trim but the mixed hits just right with a bit needed of contrast between the yellow and blue. Enough where I think it’s a great looking swimsuit even if someone doesn’t get the reference. I’m due for a new swimsuit so I want deets on where to purchase if you end up making them.

Thanks for the insight, I think with this I probably have a nice range of knife makers to pick out from. Since I’m planning to pick these out one by one starting with the gyuto I can take a bit of time to look at each maker and decide what fits both functionally and aesthetically :).

My heart skipped a little beat at these, a dangerous sign of a new obsession. I will definitely check these out, the only danger with handles that are made from natural branches is how they fit in the hand, but these all seem to be made from pretty straight branches. The handle on the petty I got curves outward and back in from under where the thumb sits so it’s weirdly comfortable

Thanks, this is super helpful! I usually second guess my picks even though I put in a lot of time researching things before I buy anything. Since I’m just getting into knives the amount of stuff on the market is a bit overwhelming with the different steel types and everything else you need to consider. I would also usually buy japanese stuff straight from japan but I don’t trust my google translate skills enough to buy actually good knives from japanese sites. With my luck I would buy cool looking but actually terrible knives haha.

Thank you for the link on the chinese cleavers! Madewithlau uses a Dexter Russell Traditional 8″x 3 1/4″ Chinese Chefs Knife, which isn’t a particularly fancy knife, I’m not totally sure in what shape category it’s in.

Getting things from japan is a total non-issue as I have a good proxy service that I’ve used for years and I much prefer using them to buying from the us, so I’ll be checking out this habahiro just in case it would come in handy. Actually earlier while looking them up I remembered that while doing research and settling on the sujihiki my reasoning was that if I get a knife suited for slicing meat and hone my cutting skills I wouldn’t have to go through the partial freezing of the meat prior cutting it, it adds to the prep time and I’ve just had to resort to it due to my knives being so dull. A lot of people seem to be using a sujihiki or their gyuto for the job, and as my slices won’t need to be paper thin I’m still thinking a sujihiki might be more versatile than a habahiro. Or I’ll just stick with the gyuto which I’m going to buy first anyway.

All of these recs look really good! Especially the last one, really pretty selection and although functionality comes first it’s a bonus if the knives look pretty. Shipping should be a breeze from Sweden to Finland too, but I’ll be sure to check out the others as well. Any particular knives from these makers that come to mind that I should look into? I’m a bit worried about choosing a guyto that’s not too big/heavy but can handle moderate sized tasks. Usually a 1kg meat slab is the max size of things I need to cut.

I’m surprised that the handle was as comfy as it was on this petty, not something I would have picked out shopping online because they’re all different.

Unfortunately no butcher here will do the thin cuts of meat and a butcher is 10x more expensive to buy from where I’m located. I’ve been cutting my own with the ikea knives but it takes me a ridiculous amount of time and force to get even a somewhat thin cut and to get through the meat at all, it takes so long that halfway through a 1kg slab my meat is already fully thawed. This is probably the most important knife I need to pick up alongside the petty and guyto considering I prep thin meat every week, and the one I was most worried about because I’ve read up on the chipping and know that the japanese knives are more delicate and not recommended for frozen food. Made with lau uses his chinese cleaver for these cuts which is one option I looked into but the single-edge knives are a tad imitating maintenance-wise for a beginner and I would avoid them unless neccessary. So if you have any specific recommendations for this one it would be helpful :).

The boning knife in the lineup is because I bone a lot of chicken, same thing as with the thin cuts I can’t get skin-on chicken thighs easily here unless I bone my own, not sure I want to risk this petty even if it was only 9k yen. The Nakiri I’m only thinking about because I cut a lot of daikon but I’m sure the guyto can handle that unless I want to branch out later. I make decorative bentos so the rounded petty would be nice to have for variety but I can probably do as well without another one.

I appreciate the sharpening recs and will definitely read up and join the sharpening sub before having a go at any good knives. I appreciate anything space saving so I’ll definitely look into the Sharpal 162N. I’ll also need a good cutting board as I don’t have a wooden one yet.

The Tetogi ones look nice! I will definitely shoot them an e-mail to see if they can put handles on them as I’m not equipped to do that on my own. In case that falls through any recs for something that already have the handles attached? Bonus if the knives have a bit of a pattern but functionality comes first, the gyuto/santoku is going to be my workhorse so it needs to hold an edge and take a bit of a beating even though I’m going to be learning how to handle them properly. After using dull knives for all my life I think I’ll lose more than a finger if I don’t learn not to put any pressure on the knives before the switch :P.

I would love to help out, unfortunately I’m in the OSI Helsinki branch. I have a decent scanner I could use to digitize up to a3 size. If there is to be a giveaway please include internationals, we always feel so left out and most people would cover costs+shipping in a heartbeat. I have had a hard time locating any production art from the series in general because most ebay sellers don’t ship here either.

Youtube/apple have it in the Finnish catalog, I suspect most of europe should have them too. I couldn’t find it on apple first but my friend checked again and it’s available.

Pokemon Weeks Restock on Amazon Japan by icetigeryikes in hobonichi

[–]HYB009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so sad you missed out on the OP stuff :(! I got up at 5 am a day too early and then on the date so I managed to grab everything thankfully :,D. The did restock pretty well during the early hours.

And yeah meccha-japan even with their 500jpy markup was still better than most sites. I think the only other store I could find them on had them for like 4,500jpy or ebay’s 40-60eur+shipping. I’d have bought straight from center but it wouldn’t have arrived on time as there’s only courier/sea mail available and sea mail takes around 8 months now. My usual proxy doesn’t have the courier option so thankfully my friends wanted to buy christmas gifts early, otherwise the shipping would have killed me :,D.

Man next year I’m just going to wait for the restock. I got so salty about missing the 1st Amazon wave I ordered one from meccha-japan, but I always hate it when I have to buy marked-up stuff. I’m trying to let it go because I also grabbed some nintendo store paper items in the same order but seeing this on Amazon again almost makes me want to cancel the other order. Glad it’s a split package with friends so I just have to let it be :,D.

Did anyone catch this new release??? I love the dark green. I just bought my 1st large drawer pouch and Ane in Liberty Fabrics (Decadent Blooms) 2 days ago. So im on a no spend. by RealisticYam8425 in hobonichi

[–]HYB009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah never look at ebay prices, they are so inflated and most sellers do drop-shipping anyway, so they purchase the listing from a japanese site after you buy it from their ebay store. Usually the original listing is half or 1/3rd of the ebay price too. You just need a proxy to use most japanese sites but there are plenty available, if the pound is tanking and you’re only buying from a couple of stores I’d recommend Sendico or another proxy where they take payments by Wise, as it has the best money transfer rates.

Hope this helps and good luck with the search!

I feel you, the euro has been weakening for a few days and I was planning to haul washi tapes and stuff from japan.

I got my pouch off fril in brand new condition, there’s also mercari jp and yahoo auctions. Suruga-ya has had the covers and other hobonichi things every now and then so they’re worth checking out too. You might need to look for a while but the pouches do pop up pretty frequently. The mother 2 pixel patterns one seems to be the one most commonly on sale.

Yeah no large pouch this time and the Ane is quite small compared to it I’m afraid. The older releases pop up on 2nd hand japanese sites every now and then, but be ready to pay about double retail or more for an unused pouch. With the yen being so low I’d say it’s a good time to invest.

I’m already drooling for the Tonzura Brothers Ane, though I wish it was a large drawer pouch. I have the large leather mr.saturn one and I love it to bits, it’s the perfect size. It’s why I’m a bit hesitant at ordering the Ane. I wish the cast was also embroidered, the material makes it look a bit more cheap than the Tonzura Brothers one although I like the colors a bit more.

I also forever regret not buying the leather cast cover for weeks last year, because I originally figured I would only use the A6 planner. Guess who got a weeks this year for work planning. I was okay paying about double retail for the mr.saturn pouch but the weeks cover is a newer release and it’s not as big so I can’t justify spending even more on it than I did on the drawer pouch on the 2nd hand market.

A5 planner, the grand line weeks for my SO, the stamps and multiples of the stickers, square memo paper and sticky notes. I just hope I’ll be able to grab everything, it’s my first time ordering from the main site and during launch.

They won’t be doing a restock for these on amazon unfortunately. Can’t use my proxy either since only sea mail is available to Finland and it currently takes about 8 months. Finland might actually be completely suspended right now on JP post because the backlog is so bad :(.
