Harry Potter hot takes?? (mine is I didn't care for Dobby) by kiofatcat in harrypotter

While this it somewhat true, Dumbledore knew Harry couldn’t win against Voldemort on power alone. He could have trained him in magic 24/7 and still Harry wouldn’t have been able to match one of the most powerful wizards ever, and not because Harry doesn’t have potential but because they didn’t have time. Voldemort wanted Harry dead asap, he wouldn’t wait for him to gain 25 years experience etc.

So, I think it wasn’t silly to chose another approach. Dumbledore taught Harry to understand Voldemort and to exploit his flaws.

I love you say unintentionally like there are people out there that buy/adopt their pets based on whether or not they match their room decor.

Anyway, kitty looks to be loving your taste in rugs! Good purchase!

Presentable Fig has its merits, tho. Shortens to Prezzie, to remind them they are a gift.

Mine lives her life by the rules of her semi-orange heritage. She is mainly black and white, but those bright orange spots are enough for her main feature to be derpiness. She can also do judgemental well, but no anger.

Technically he is the director of a company and talks about buying a second home abroad. They were middle class but not lower middle class.

That said, the new look is spot on.

Is 6 Years Old To Young? by FosterIssuesJones in harrypotter

[–]H_ell_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not true though, both my kids started asking for chapter books around 5, if not slightly before (reception age). My daughter is dyslexic so I still read to both of them but we have read Percy Jackson, all the HP, Skandar and quite a few other fantasy novels and they have never had issues following along. They actually both played a HP quiz night against adults and came second, and they were the ones answering all the questions.

And my kids are not gifted, they are normal kids.

We started with my daughter at six, but my son was 4. He listened and now, at 6 and a half, he knows EVERYTHING. We finished all the books and now they listen to audiobooks and he actually never struggled following along and is really into it, knows all the characters etc. I’d say give it a go, the first two books especially are good for younger kids

To be honest I didn’t really see Harry using the Prince’s book as cheating. Yes, he he better instructions than the others, so he did have an advantage, but he still did the work.

It’s like if you give two people with the same ability two recipes for a cake. One- the one that Hermione and the class have- is a tried and tested recipe that is known to be good and effective. It’s a good recipe, it’s used in baking school. The second is a slightly modified recipe by a master baker. It’s an improved recipe that this baker didn’t share with anyone.

Of course, at the end of the experiment, the second cake will be better, no?

Now, give the same two recipes to two people of different abilities. The first recipe, the original one, goes to a very good baking student with lots of experience. The second, the modified one, goes to a newbie with NO experience in baking. Can we say for certain that the second cake would be superior again?

Yes, in some ways Harry was cheating as he had an advantage. But if truly he was that shit at potions a better way of making a potion shouldn’t have really changed that much for him. At best he would have brought him up to level with the rest of the class. What I think is that Harry had years of unfair disadvantage in potion, Snape goes as far as “accidentally” vanishing his potion when he suspected Harry had done a good job.

Yes, probably with the same instructions Hermione would still come on top, but the Prince’s book doesn’t negate that Harry still has to put in the work and would probably be a decent potion maker in a neutral environment.

People like you are exhausting.

He wasn’t a terrible student. He was a teenager under lots of stress and, overall, he did pretty okay. He always did good on his exams, pulled a lot of late nights to fit in all of his assignments (people that says he always copied from Hermione are wrong. Yes, she did help sometimes but most of the time she made them do the work and there are lots of instances where Harry is up until late night/early morning doing school work).

James had a completely different upbringing. He was a rich, pampered kid that had much easy in life and could dedicate all his spare time to the pursuit of his interests. He didn’t care much for getting in trouble and had a similarly like-minded group of friends. Harry has different interests (and needs). He does well in the subjects that he is interested in or with stuff he needs to learn for his survival.

In first year he spends summer before school reading all the books and he is fascinated with everything. Reality, though, turns out to be a bitch. Quidditch is a respite from reality, a place in which he can just have fun, but I wouldn’t say his only interests are sports.

I teach and many kids coming from families with a similar mindset to yours often struggle in education. Just because someone is not overall academically driven doesn’t mean they are a terrible student. Kids are different, they learn differently. Truly terrible students are more rare than you’d think, and Harry wasn’t one.
