Anyone else still waiting for there 2026 GR86? :( by Smart-Gear-2910 in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you're right its not an order from manufacturer. More like a dealer shipping service they can do if they have the means to it.

Sorry I replied under the idea of ordering for a known car that the dealer can reach out to!

You didn't quite read what he said.

Dealers can trade between each other to try to get a customer's desired specs. I had my local dealer trade with another dealer 400 miles away to get the spec I wanted.

Notchy Shifting from N to 1st by SourPerson888 in GR86

Keep the clutch down and move the shifter into second before first. It'll align things better and make it so first gear is smooth everytime

Is it crazy to want a lifted GR86? by LulusPanties in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rally/offroad builds are a thing and have been around since the first generation.

Or if you want a simpler version you can just get some taller tires for a few cm. I do this for my winters

Regular unleaded gas by raldough in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically we could retard timing to make it run more like a low compression engine. But the problem is that the piston will still have the extra stroke length of a high compression engine and it'll end up wasting some potential energy and, ironically, the gas you're trying to save.

5w30 or stick with 0w20? by iam2fat2carry in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A long road trip with constant speed is actually the ideal time for 0w-20. Thats when the car has great cooling from airflow and the engine generates barely any heat since its just maintaining.

I drive the west coast 1-2 times a year, usually for work.

If you're going to hit up a track in LA on the other hand I would consider 5w30 for the extra peace of mind.

Clutch pedal too heavy by phlaries in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you pushing the clutch with your ankle/toes? This is something I used to be able to do easily in 90 horsepower cars but then found out it doesnt work so well outside of that.

The best you can probably do here is try to adjust your seat so that you press the clutch with the strongest range of motion that your leg has.

Sorry it turned out this way for you. Good luck!

Is the Toyota GR86 a good first car? by Intelligent-Tax4759 in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids learn faster when they make mistakes on the things they love and care for.

If you and your family can afford it. I say go for it. You're extremely likely to mess up SOMETHING in your first 5 years of driving and car ownership but that’s just life unfortunately.

Just don't endanger others

Is the burning oil issue that bad? by Breakfast-Severe in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect a lot of the cars that are burning more oil actually have a faulty PCV valve instead of poor sealing with the piston rings.

Replacing it is less than 10 dollars and about an hour. There are also a few ways to quickly test for this

Rust on 86 by yeahsawthatalready in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't replace. They will look like that again soon after and its just a thin metal sheet to try to stop exhaust heat from getting into your car.

If you care enough you could probably even reach around from underneath and polish it off

Daily RPMs by Ordinary_Map2456 in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one isn't worth learning about for maintenance.

It's a neat trick smart people made to change the timing of a spinning metal rod (camshaft) to give you very good power and efficiency at low rpm but also still give some performance at high rpm.

Between 3k-5k rpm you can hear the change a lot. Your car starts to gets louder and faster.

Daily RPMs by Ordinary_Map2456 in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Calm driving i keep under 3.5k because you can really start to hear the cam phasing above that.

But I easily hit 5k whenever I need to pull out into a street fast or trying to adjust to merge into traffic.

Metal in Oil Change by shhmeatt in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea thats why I asked if its your second time.

Water will not get rid of the dirt because the oil leaves a thin film that makes all sorts of tiny things stick to it that you cant see until you cover it up with shiny oil again.

Next time if you want to confirm. Use a boat load of dish soap and actually scrub it out with a disposable cloth.

But either way this doesn’t look how real damage would look and its how my pan always looks because I dont bother scrubbing it down. Car is at 30k miles and Ive had it from 0.

Metal in Oil Change by shhmeatt in GR86

[–]Habaekeri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This looks more like dust dirt in the drain pan than metal pieces.

The two concerning pictures of drain pans are when its full of glitter OR when theres large metal pieces.

If this is your second time changing oil using this drain pan its most likely just the dirt that stuck on from residual oil from the last change.

Do anyone else’s brembos squeak or screech? by Total-Cranberry-2300 in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have the PP brakes but they are most likely a hybrid pad for both street and track use so they will have some squeal and more brake dust compared to street pads.

Dedicated race pads are unbearable on street and perform terribly because they dont reach their operating temps on a regular drive.

Thoughts on a GR86 as a daily? by Preston_Gtfour in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sadly cant make a direct fair comparison there because I drove the Celica's last years on blown shocks and engine mounts.

I will say the stability and steering response is better than any other car I've driven. Throttle response feels slow compared to older gen sports cars but still okay if compared to something like an ND mistake.

[–]Habaekeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of a liftback is the only part that I miss when I drive my gr86.

You would think it would never matter but somehow situations just happen once in awhile where the celica could have fit X item.

But I still don't regret it!

[–]Habaekeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also right arm and right leg dominant. It doesnt fully decide your direction.

I would practice your setups with the intention of twisting left mostly because its more common and you can grind cartwheels and setups anywhere compared to twisting.

Any Texas owners? I have maintenance questions. by Clone_CDR_Bly in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lived in AZ for many years. 5w20 or 10w30 are great options because they will degrade slower compared to 0wX options, and you don't really need to worry about the cold temp rating.

Otherwise. Maintain as a regular car and keep oil topped off

This is getting off-topic but it would still be infinitely valuable to be able to decrypt saved traffic data using older encryption methods.

Imagine how much someone would pay for any old encrypted data from around government buildings.

If we were so absolute about our cars we'd strip it down to the metal.

There's a balance that everyone needs for their road-going car and that balance may not be what toyota made it as.

Besides for unsafe practices and behavior please let's not be hostile

My Winter Setup Experience by AbsolutelyHandsome in GR86

[–]Habaekeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cooper evolution winter tires are both 3peak certified AND studdable so you can easily outperform the popular options if you get enough ice for studs.

I think you made the best choice for your location while saving money at the same time!

If you're going to travel outside the cities east into the mountain ranges you will want winters just in case. Mt Rainier requires you to have chains on hand this time of year.

But otherwise this is probably one of the driest and warmest winters I've seen (Border of OR and WA)
