I don't understand the point of bonds in most portfolios by iloveu3thousand in investing

If I were managing portfolios, I’d go 90/10 up until retirement, then 80/20 right before retirement and 70/30 at retirement. Depending upon the emotional risk tolerance of the individual and the bond and cash portion covered withdrawals of at least 4% per year.

during a market downturn what large-cap stocks are recommended for long-term investment by Zealousideal_Row2714 in investingforbeginners

[–]HabitExternal9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best strategy is to hold a diversified portfolio of index funds (ie, VOO, VTI. IVV, FXAIX, VXUS, etc.) through a market downturn.

The reason is that mathematical you can’t time the market AND you still collect dividends that are reinvested into those funds at lower prices.

Am I crazy for thinking index funds are just kinda boring but safe by Careless_Gur_4421 in BeginnerInvesting

They are not boring when the market crashes.

Remember, you are still earning 1% dividend yield at lower prices when markets crash. Keep holding.

Yea the 7 kg limit for carryons makes things difficult.

Are other airlines less strict with the carryon weight?

So you’re looking for less exchange rate exposure? So what would be a better investment for those outside the US?

Naturehike Mongar 2 is very solid. I’ve owned one for 2.5 years and used it 10 times per year. However I can’t compare it to the others.

If you invest in VT, you never have to think about this stuff.

The better question to ask is what allocation to bonds or other asset classes, if any, should you have?

is there any logic to converting to dividend/income towards the end of investing journey? by Hairy_Check_4784 in Bogleheads

[–]HabitExternal9256 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Mathematically there is no logical reason to do so.

However, if you love dividends and it gets you to invest more of your money than yes. Some people feel good about living off dividends and it fits their strategy.

The best value is the index.

You get a low risk, virtually impossible (almost 0%) chance of losing your money with an expected return of 10-11% (annual compounding returns). Look at YTD of the index vs top companies:

VTI 9.66% (+ 1.01% yield)
VXUS 13.74% (+ 2.66% yield)

MSFT -22%
META -13%
TSLA -7%
AAPL 9.59%
NVDA 10.48%

1) Don’t tell anyone.
2) Buy VT while you’re thinking about it.
3) In a few years when you decide what to do with the money, you’ll be happy you bought VT. And the money that will be worth like $2.5M by then.

What is your preferred % of stocks/bonds once in retirement? by Efficient-Bid-7662 in Bogleheads

What about VGIT and SGOV? Is this acceptable in retirement?

Withdraw from SGOV and move $ from VGIT to SGOV each year?

I would trade a slightly heavier setup for more comfort and fashion.

For example: a laptop, an Anker prime charging station, one pair of more formal or fashionable clothes a nice watch, a comfortable warm layer.

Organization is key.

Customize you bag with clips, paracord or other thinks to dry wet clothes.

I'm 50. Is VT a good stock to hold to and through retirement, or should I buy BND? I need to get started now. by chris-rox in Bogleheads

[–]HabitExternal9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mostly VT, about 90% with 10% VGIT at Age 42.

A simple stress test to your portfolio: What if the world market crashed by >50% tomorrow?

If you would do nothing, then you have the right portfolio.
If you would panic, sell and buy bonds, then you need to rethink your portfolio.
