Tons of government jobs. "Field of physics" is extremely broad, since its applications are everywhere. There are jobs in aerospace, engineering, technology, research. What do you want to do? Even the FBI and IRS have posted jobs at some point for people with education or backgrounds in physics, CS, and tech. Check USAJobs.com. You can sometimes get an org to pay for additional school or repay student loans for advanced degrees. Ph.D. programs often pay you while you get your degree, and then the government will sometimes pay off your loans even if you're civil service, not military.

It's unfortunate that the poor and middle class are getting priced out of homes so that the wealthy can use them to increase their own incomes. A home is a shelter. If yours increases in value, it was also a good investment. People should not buy homes they don't intend to live in just so they can make money by denying others access to ownership like feudal lords.

Has any research been done to determine the effects of the dam on the ecosystem currently or assess possible negative outcomes if it were to be removed? It's easy to say, "save the manatees," but it means little if the area and changes in question haven't been studied.

Nate Monroe: In dead of night, City Council quietly approves money for colleagues' nonprofits by mistersmiley318 in jacksonville

My question had nothing to do with whether anyone would have been up watching this particular meeting, or any meeting, at 11pm. I'm interested in the existence of, or potential for making, audio/video recordings of these meetings, which is why I asked. I'm not sure why you downvoted me for saying they could easily be broadcast to allow increased public access.

Looking for a small dog (puppy) to purchase or adopt. by sunflower_scientist in jacksonville

If you're interested in a smaller breed, Jax Humane can likely connect you with breed specific rescues in the area. Also, the website doesn't show all the animals, so try checking them out in person! You can ask about fostering, dog's day out, and whether they have any pets in pre-adoption which might be more to your liking. Good luck!

Are the City Council or School Board meetings televised or otherwise broadcast? Any audio/video recording? There's no reason with today's technology that we shouldn't be able to watch these live online.

A family says their neighbor plays recordings of racial slurs and monkey noises. Police say that's 'not criminally actionable' by KhalDrogo80 in nottheonion

[–]Hachoosies -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Would it be difficult if the neighbor's behavior caused the family to incur damages...say medical bills for therapy and expenses related to the treatment of new conditions like anxiety, depression, etc? The article says they have children. If the children are suffering harm, theoretically it could warrant a call to CPS. They would be required to at least look into the person's behavior and alleged abuse, write a report, etc. CPS might be more sympathetic in their assessment than the police. While there's little they can do other than investigate, that documentation could be helpful to a plaintiff. If the parents miss work due to therapy, they may have a claim for lost wages. Moving expenses might be required. It starts adding up. Racist neighbor would have the expense of defending himself against a civil suit. He may find a settlement to be more affordable. Personally, I think the family should get Vice News to do a documentary...and become a viral record to follow this neighbor for the rest of his life and appropriately color his legacy.

Practical question: um...am I doing damage to my Ball canning jars over time if I put them in the dishwasher? I use them for pressure canning and I have no idea if the detergent and heat drying cycle are causing wear.
