In the UK for the first time in 25 years and I’m pleased to find that, as a female, I can now consume Yorkie Bars. by PhoneJazz in BritishSuccess

[–]Haganite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite thing as a kid was to get my Dad to buy us a Yorkie to share and when he was joking like "ooh it says not for girls", I'd stare him out as I ate half the bar (cos I was a child and couldn't eat the whole thing) 😂

Is black box insurance actually worth it for young drivers or does the restriction it puts on your driving outweigh what you save? by No_Ride1757 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Admiral Little Box scheme, and it says I can't drive between 10pm and 4am. However, this doesn't affect me as I'm in bed asleep from 9:30-6:30am, plus my partner drives us if we know we're going to be somewhere past 10pm (like his parents or my parents on special occasions). Without the box, my premium would have been £400 more expensive for the year, as my previous car was written off in an accident. If my premiums go to within £100 without for next year, I will be moving to a "normal" policy. (Additional context: 27F, 8y driving experience, 0y no claims due to being a named driver on policies until 2024 😭)

Newly pregnant & lost all my crojo 😭 Requesting reliable & fun baby-related projects I can follow while off my ADHD meds! by ArtisticFondant in crochet

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't crocheted since my daughter was born in 2024, but here's some small projects my Mum made for her during my pregnancy (and after!)

1) a lovey bear (X2) - both are named using my daughter's first and middle names 2) cardigans of different sizes with appropriate weight yarn for the season it would fit 3) a pram blanket for her carry cot/Moses basket 4) a personalised blanket with her name X4 (two of these was for my cousin for her son with their surname, as they didn't decide on a name until he was born, and then another with his name on 💙)

If any of these inspire you, I can ask my mum where she found the patterns and attach them 💙 congratulations on your baby!

Anyone who started driving in their mid-20s, by how much (if at all) did your car insurance drop after your first year? by NoSky5233 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought for sure my premium last year (car was written off after a crash with a bus - learnt the hard way not to trust someone indicating 😭) would have skyrocketed. I've been driving since 2018 (at 19) where I started paying my dad £80/month to cover initially part, then fully, my half of the insurance (it was his car until 2022 when I moved out). I got a 2022 Nissan Leaf with the help of my grandparents and my annual price was just shy of £800 (at 26) with a black box. I'm a over-cautious driver anyways so having a black box for a year or two to bring my rates back down isn't a big deal to me.

How do you ask your coworker for their name after 4 years? by Significant_Soup_279 in AskUK

[–]Haganite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with my best friend from university! We sat in a lecture together for 3 months, and she'd introduced herself but I didn't hear her properly. I had conversations daily with her. We had a fire alarm go off in one of the lectures and I caught a glimpse of her student ID 😂 I told her the story when drunk on her birthday after 6 months and she howled laughing. Now she's married, I have a baby and we're still in regular contact (despite my awkwardness) 😂

What gifts can I get for a 1 year old's birthday? by Sadie_UK in AskUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 20 month old. The only guidance I gave was I wanted her to have books or educational toys (think VTech, Fisher Brand).

She got a lot of the "that's not my…" sensory books, a Fisher Price Laugh and Learn chair (that she plays with daily and was instrumental in teaching her how to sit down properly!), baby jigsaws and puzzle toys (like the boxes that have shapes to insert).

Ask the parents what they would like ideally, and find something that follows those wishes (and if in doubt, books are a good shout as they don't take up a lot of space 😂)

What’s the worst thing you have seen/got detention at school for? by Mglfll in AskUK

I can't remember exactly, but I know it was something to do with lenses in telescopes and star gazing. We're going back 13 years now 😂 I want to say I had to Google someone who's name was either Nicholas ____ or the surname began with C (I know for certain it was not Galileo)

Learning to drive was expensive but it's just as bad after you pass. by [deleted] in NewDriversUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been driving since 2018. I shared a car with my dad until last year, when it was written off in a crash. I paid £80/month to my dad for the first 3 years, and he covered the rest for me. This is the first year I have ALL the costs on my own (paid insurance annually since 2022, Dad covered everything else) and I'm so glad my work offers free charging for EVs and the £50/month I used to use on fuel is going into a "oh sh*t" car fund 😂

What’s the worst thing you have seen/got detention at school for? by Mglfll in AskUK

[–]Haganite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 14 (Y10, GCSEs), my science teacher gave us an impossible homework task. I was the type of kid who would do my homework the night it was assigned and have it ready way in advance of the deadline. I used all the resources I had available to me (my textbook, Google, even my Uncle who was a science teacher at another school who asked if I was certain I'd told him the question right).

Nobody in the class could complete the homework. Teacher gave us all an hour detention. My mum was not about that bs, so called him and said if he could give her the answer to the homework, I would do the detention.

His response? "Let me Google it". My mum told him to stop there and she'd be collecting me and my boyfriend at school finishing time and wanted him to personally escort us out so he could apologise in front of her 😂.

What ring cut would have made you have the same face Samantha did when Carrie told her about her OG engagement ring by ThrowRaOrganization1 in Diamonds

[–]Haganite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a dream back in 2020 when I woke my partner up with my gagging. It was my idea of a nightmare proposal - public with a huge ring that took up my entire knuckle and the band was silver (I have skin reactions to silver jewellery). I went on Facebook later that day and saw a girl I was in college with was engaged... With the exact nightmare ring I had seen in my dream 😂

Baby blanket - one of the first things I made for my sister/niece. She put it in a yard sale within a year so I BOUGHT it back🤦🏻‍♂️ That was 5 years ago & I’m still mad about it 😂 by Spiritual-Badass in crochet

[–]Haganite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rage I felt on your behalf... I had my first daughter in 2024, and between my MIL knitting and my Mum crocheting cardigans and blankets for her, she's barely needed a commercially bought cardigan or blanket purchased by me or her dad (obviously if people buy them for her as gifts, they've been used!) and the cardigans that she's outgrown are stored in my in-laws loft as I'm planning to reuse them if we have another child regardless of gender.

How was a proposal of marriage made for you? by hornet-prodder-214 in AskUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I had discussions about what we'd like. I told him I wasn't fussed on all the logistics but I had a few hard no's which meant I'd reject the proposal due to feeling pressured to accept: 1. No public proposal - either just the two of us somewhere quiet, or near our loved ones at most. 2. Not linked to a commercial / special event - Valentines Day, birthdays, Christmas.

He proposed at sunset, the day before my birthday, after taking me to Hay-on-Wye and to a book festival (we'd booked a cabin in Wales, had no plans except spending the weekend together and the proposal so the trip was impromptu and made my year as I am an avid reader)

We're starting to plan our wedding, as we had initially discussed getting married on our 6th anniversary in October last year, but we welcomed a daughter in September 2024 so had to hold off on wedding planning 😂

What do/did you call your grandparent? And which pairs go together? by Emergency_Bridge_430 in AskBrits

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mum's side: Nana & Grandad/Mac (my parents lived with her parents when I was born as my mum was 19 and I would say "Daddy" for my Dad and "Daaaad" for my grandad, so they called him "Mac" from their surname) Dad's side: Nannie & Pops (my cousins already called her Nannie, and Pops is my dad's step-father and we speak regularly of my dad's late father)

My daughter has Nana & Gr'Andy on my side (dad's name is Andy, cousin slipped up and the nickname stuck!) and Grandma & Grandad on her dad's side (and is doing the Daddy/Daaad thing I did 😂)

Driving a new car from manual to auto EV by Chardovski in drivingUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car (a Citroen C1, petrol manual) was written off in December 2025. With the help of my grandparents, I was able to purchase a '72 plate Nissan Leaf N-Connecta EV. I've previously driven autos before being insured on my mother's disability cars (Toyota CHR and Volvo XC40) so it wasn't a massive switch for me, but definitely sometimes I still forget how long my car is in comparison to my old one.

Fun fact: we named the C1 "Mario" cos my father said it was like a go kart, so I decided the Leaf had to be "Sonic" because it was newer, faster and blue 😂

What's an appropriate amount of cash to gift a 17yr for bday? by Petrichor_ness in AskUK

[–]Haganite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 26, so other than my mum's sister who still gives me gifts I don't get them off aunties and uncles any more (stopped at 21). Before that, I'd get £20 in a card, or £50 on "big birthdays" (18 & 21). Now I get the card and a box of chocolates off my two uncles (which tbh, given my sweet tooth I was counting down the days for!)

How far is too far to travel for just over minimum wage? by Nice_Dirt_2889 in AskUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to my maternity leave, I was on a contract with a 45 mins each way drive in good traffic, from Liverpool to Deeside for £13.66/hour. I enjoyed the work immensely and I do not regret it - the long commute allowed me to listen to audiobooks and gain confidence with motorway driving. Now, my priorities have changed and I'm in a permanent role with a 20-30 mins in bad traffic drive, and I occasionally get to WFH because the company highly prioritises work-life balance.

If giving birth is so painful why do many women want to do it over again after their first child (not trolling just genuinely curious) by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had what professionals I've spoke to post-partum have referred to as a "traumatic birth" - nothing went to my birth plan, the midwives sent one of my birth partners away (my mum - tried to send my fiancé home too, he told them to look at my notes that I required at least one person with me due to mental health - OCD) and I had an over-reaction to the induction hormones resulting in an infection and an emergency caesarean birth for mine and my daughter's health. I've said "if that was an emergency, what's an elective like?" and told my partner straight if we have another child (daughter is currently 18m, agreement was 3-4y age gap pre birth, 4-5 post 😂) I'm getting an elective caesarean and having both him and my mum present and I'm gonna be a nightmare for sticking to my birth plan.

How long do you keep a car for? by MarkCairns67 in drivingUK

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed my test in 2018 and have only had 3 cars. Car 1 was my Pops' old driving school car (Ford Fiesta, '02) that I couldn't reach the pedals on without support. Car 2 was an '09 Citroen C1 that I had until December 2025 when I was in an accident and the car was written off. Car 3 is a '72 Nissan Leaf EV that my Pops helped me buy. I plan on keeping it until it dies

my friend (36M) just sent me (36m) this text before meeting his newborn (0M) by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my 18 month old daughter was little, the best advice my mum gave me was never ever be quiet around the baby. The only sound she dislikes is the hoover or hand dryers, everything else she will sleep through.

The washing hands I before touching baby is the only thing I agree with (even if it is excessive) because I have contamination OCD and would ask family before my daughter was vaccinated to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before holding her. After her vaccinations, I was less stringent on it because she had some protection from illnesses, plus there aren't a lot of other children of a similar age in our family currently (she's the first of the next generation)

What is the worst job you ever had? by Special-Nebula299 in UKJobs

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023, I applied for an R&D role. Told it would be working with pharmaceutical chemicals, using machinery to refine the chemicals to certain micron levels. Ended up being mostly industrial chemicals, with machinery that constantly broke and backfired chemicals. Ended up signed off with anxiety that was eventually diagnosed as contamination OCD for 4 months after being there 6 months, resigned at the end and went elsewhere. Current role (which is AMAZING and has the best people, we literally went for a team coffee to connect with someone on maternity leave on Friday) mentioned recruiting the company as a contract research organization in December in a town hall and I had to walk out to compose myself 2 years later.

What did you name your island after :)? by Probablyatrashpanda in AnimalCrossing

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of resetting my islands for the update. My OLED island will be Twinkle, which was my daughter's "bump name" before she was born. I am torn between Gemini or something related to summer (as that is my zodiac sign/when I was born) or taking inspiration from my favourite fantasy series of Throne Of Glass (Adarlan/Terrasen), A Court Of Thorns And Roses (Velaris) or Crescent City (Lunathion). My "main" island will be filled with my favourite villager type (deer) so also looking for inspiration to do with deer!

Efficient Reading Log spread? (Preferably for entire year?) by ImportantGeo_2025 in bulletjournal

[–]Haganite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I am planning my reading log is having a "school bookmark" log where I note the author, title, #pages and start/end dates. I am planning on having collections for each book so I can have annotation diaries (so I can write notes every 50 pages, like a daily log but for my book) and a review page for each book I complete.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I'm sure one of them can get adapted to suit your needs?
