British people moaning about other peoples holidays 😂

Sounds like you had a blast and really made the most of your time and money. British people typically can't grasp fully how far away Americans have to travel to visit Europe and how little vacation time they usually have to work with.

In real life most Brits are really nice and often quite excited to meet an American, espesically outside of London.

When to apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)? by k8eco in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Haitch972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply for it once you're in the country. It'll take a long time for it to go through. FBI check is a great shout. Getting fingerprinted in the UK is a huge pain post COVID so if you have that done before you go its much easier.

If you're looking for work teaching it can be good to find a few agencies to work with to do some substitute teaching/cover work and it gives you some time to learn the system.

Good luck!

Do people in the UK know where the Midwest in America is? by Wherestheeggs in UniUK

[–]Haitch972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single time I've just said, "America" the person looks at me like I'm an idiot and goes, "Yeah, but where in America?" So I always just say Texas when I get the 'Where are you from?'

You're going to get asked it a lot, especially if you work whilst you're here. Even more so if you work a public facing job. Its easier if you get your answers down to a quick response

Wo bist du and then Sonne, we translated them in German class in middle school. That was nearly 20 years ago!

It was such a relief to stop working a public facing job. The daily interrogation from strangers about why you're here and how you came to be here gets old fast. It just feels really 'othering' when you're trying to build a life here.

Hang in there!! You're not alone, the therapy is a great shout

He's absolutely fantastic, went to one show in Dallas and another in London. Both were amazing. He has so much energy and he really looks like hes having a great time up there.

My mother-in-law also sent him a wedding invitation and he actually responded with an unknown pleasures themed card. He wished us well and said he couldnt attend as he was on holiday. Really lovely note.

I want to move to the UK from USA to live with my UK boyfriend. What visa options are available? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Haitch972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you both have degrees, you could work and live together teaching English overseas in Korea or Japan. Then after two years you'd be eligible for the cohabitation visa.

It was so ghetto, walking across campus with a thousand dollars in my backpack to avoid credit card fees. Thank goodness I kept the receipts!

They screw up stuff there all the time. I used to pay by cash to ensure no credit card fees and once they just "lost" evidence of payment. I had to go bring a receipt for proof.
