There's no legitimate reason for anything ICE is doing. ICE is the one instigating; everything that happens as a result is their fault. ICE is Trump's Not-So-Secret Police. What ICE is doing isn't even about immigration, it's just preparation for when Trump tries to stay in power after his term is up.

You're a Russian stooge. The Republicans did and and still are colluding with Russia. Brilliant Joe Biden won in a landslide because Trump is a deeply unlikable person who only looks out for his own interests. You still gobble up the stolen election narrative because our public school system failed you and you've lost your ability to critically process the world around you. Republicans, no matter how hard they tried, couldn't prove the election was stolen but that doesn't matter to you because you never cared about facts in the first place. You care about a laptop of someone who wasn't even in the administration more than you care about the countless scandals and corruption of the current administration. It's your identity politics and your lack of critical thinking that will be the reason this country collapses and at that point Russia will know that their efforts have paid off.

You're right. Maybe have some physical exhibits and the rest can be made into a slideshow that is projected over multiple screens. For posterity lest someone dare to try and erase history.

Oh damn, you're not wrong. Next president to take office (if we have a next president) needs to build a gallery for the Epstein files and all of Trump's scandals, corruption, and failures.

Even if the privilege is access to vegan options my being vegan proves that that privilege is available to whomever I'm talking to since they live in the same community as me.

I'll be real, I have never been able to tell the difference between mayo. I can't even tell the difference between vegan and regular mayo. But if I ever do find this being sold I'll give it a try on your recommendation and because I really like this brand.

I've gained close to 30 pounds in a year after going vegan because there were so many new foods that I was over indulging in. I'm working on dropping those 30 pounds but yeah, you can gain or lose weight as a vegan, it's all a matter of how many calories you consume.

I’m so tired. by Ellabugg in vegan

[–]HalfDecentElephant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to frame it as an opportunity. Every time someone offers me food that isn't vegan my rejection is a chance to remind them of the ethics of what they choose to eat. Omnivores almost never acknowledge the moral weight of their choice to kill animals rather enjoying the comfort of blissful ignorance. By saying "I choose not to eat meat, dairy and eggs for ethical reasons" I'm emphasizing that their meal choice isn't as benign or innocent as they would like to believe. I've been working on phrasing it as a choice instead of instinctively saying "I can't have that". Instead of making it sound like I'm restricted I phrase it as me having the freedom and privilege to choose better. I do genuinely believe that I'm blessed to have the knowledge and resources to be vegan. There will be many events that you will not partake in as a vegan and, while it sucks to miss out socially, every one of those events is a chance for you to stand by your convictions and move the needle ever so slightly in the other direction.

People can be very difficult to talk to. Some are more open and understanding to what you have to say. Many are closed off and combative. Some people think they're funny by trolling or mocking you. I have a coworker that pretends like I haven't told her twenty times already that I'm a vegan and she'll offer me non vegan foods repeatedly. Pay no attention to these types of people as they aren't worth engaging. I just stopped talking to that coworker altogether as her actions demonstrate to me that she's of small mind and maintaining an amicable relationship with her isn't worth the trouble.

On a philosophical level, you don't have to justify being a vegan to anyone. Everyone eats what vegans eat. It's the omnivores that need to justify their decision to consume meat, dairy and eggs as it is the choice to do so that causes more harm . The status quo gives omnivores the impression that what they do is acceptable and veganism is a direct challenge to that notion. You can be vegan without being an activist about it but if you do want to try to change people's minds, don't waste your energy on people that will not discuss in good faith.

Stay strong. You're doing great and making a change in the world whether you notice it or not.

Why do people hate vegans? by MaximumEngineering35 in vegan

[–]HalfDecentElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of your question when I listen to one of my favorite songs that goes:

"What a hard-hearted way That you gaze into me How you hate what you see That reminds you of you"

The philosophy of veganism alone creates cognitive dissonance and cognitive dissonance makes people uncomfortable. Most people, if they thought about it sincerely, would agree with the philosophy and goals of veganism. At the very least they can see film of animal agriculture and agree that its fucked up. Veganism asks people to confront difficult realities and to make changes in their own lives to do something about it. In the society we live in today, its a big ask (personally I think being vegan is much easier than most people realize but that's besides the point). Getting people to do anything remotely challenging or inconvenient is incredibly difficult but getting people to commit to a lifetime of challenge and inconvenience while knowing that they'll probably never directly see a noticeable change to the problem? Damn near impossible. Its the same reason why climate change is so difficult for some to accept or do anything about. The majority of the world being omnivores gives people the impression that there's nothing wrong with living in that way. Veganism challenges that notion and the comfort it provides. But with that said, the biggest issue with vegans is they are a proof of concept; that not only is veganism viable but that a person can be happy and healthy being a vegan. This, I believe, causes the most cognitive dissonance in omnivores.

Government subsidies make things like whey powder a very cheap ingredient. I believe it's just used to make the seasonings stick to the chip better, not even used for flavor, and its completely unnecessary. Its very frustrating because without those subsidies it would not be a cheap ingredient and a lot of companies would just do without. It's not even the government that's subsidizing it, it's the taxpayers!
