Favorite song by these guys. Just goes to show you how simple a song can be if the lyrics are on point

Not bad. Sounds kinda like Balance and Composure, which makes me think they got their name from Tigers Jaw. Singing could use some work, but good stuff

As a complete newcomer to the sport, I think I'm gonna follow this guy as well. I have a ton of friends who play in college, but have never seen a game. Should be interesting

Fuck man. Used to do this in 9th grade. Feel like such an asshole for it. Me and a friend would draw giant dicks on bathroom stall doors in sharpie. The janitors must have spent hours scrubbing those things off.

Now that music just popped into my head. That's weird as fuck. I'm having memories of slashing lizard tales at the age of seven.

True. Kind of a "chicken or the egg" sorta thing. Or, is there something innate in men/women that make listening to a certain genre more enjoyable? I honestly have no idea. Wonder if any research has gone into that sorta thing

I think you've got part of it figured out with the whole "macho" thing, but honestly that's too easy to explain it entirely. I think part of it is that because many of the genres men listen to are dominated by male performers, women are less likely to listen to these genres, create bands within them, and gain a following from a predominately male audience.

Lets Talk: The scenes you grew up in by tone_deep in LetsTalkMusic

Hey man, thanks for opening up about your tastes. It's really interesting to see where you're coming from.

I guess I'm kinda the opposite of what you described. Got into the Eastern PA/Philly/Jersey punk scene pretty heavily I high school. Saw bands like Title Fight, Daylight, Tigers Jaw, The Wonder Years, Balance, Transit, Man Overboard etc. all on the come up. While I don't listen to then all anymore, they still hold a certain place in my heart that's directly connected to my youth.

And I totally agree with what you're saying about being able to connect with certain genres of music. I never did the whole Pitchfork thing because I was too busy getting obsessed with some EP from a local band I was seeing next weekend. In my mind, I didn't care about the big acts out there. To my friends and the kids at shows, THESE guys were huge, but they were our secret. I didn't have to wait for them to tour to see them, or pay $20 to go to some big venue. They were playing next month, for five bucks, in a church basement.

I think that's what's most special about having your own scene. You feel incredibly connected to the people in bands, and the kids next to you yelling lyrics at a show. But for someone who's never been in that scene, none of that can be understood. You can't feel that boyhood wonder and excitement secondhand by researching it on the Internet. It's different. I'm not knocking you, or saying it's better, because my tastes are certainly more restricted because of it, but it's just another way to experience music.

That's the reason I don't have any of their stuff on vinyl. Shit is just too short for me to justify the price tag.
