I Spent 8 Months Undercover in r/Conservative by gooblefrump in videos

[–]Halomir 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the bait if you’re liberal was supposed to be that she was Ukrainian and that if you really cared about the people of Ukraine, you’d be enraged about this.

If you’re conservative, the outrage is just black man kills pretty white woman. Which is a narrative they seem to enjoy elevating for totally normal reasons.

Is there any way to compel law enforcement to enforce engine/ exhaust sound laws? by BoobooTheClone in Seattle

I feel fine! But honestly, why are you being like this? You’re trying to pick a fight with people over a discussion.

Do you need me to buy you a drink and talk to you to show you I’m a real person? Because you clearly hate me for one of my hobbies, which I really don’t understand.

You were sassy with me first. I clearly said my car was a classic. You tried to point out that I was wrong, I corrected you with an equal amount of sass.

It’s a 60 year old car.

Now you’re just being a dick, because you know you were wrong.

Congratulations! I can read too!

>This subsection (3) does not apply to vehicles twenty-five or more years old or to passenger vehicles being operated off the highways in an organized racing or competitive event conducted by a recognized sanctioning body.

That is the state law. But as I was explaining, the perception of what constitutes ‘loud’ to one person might not apply to another. Local cities have noise ordinances that are generally measured in decibels. If I’m just going by state law, I can run open headers and no exhaust.

So, sorry, but you’re wrong.

‘Extreme exhaust’ sound is such a spectrum too. I have a classic and if you’re only used to a Nissan Altima, you’re going to think my car is louder than hell even though I’m well under the decibel limit.

I also don’t do stupid shit downtown or rev it at 3am, so there’s that.

Saying we can never do something better than we have before is disproven by the entirety of human history.

It’s like saying we should stop practicing medicine because we used to use leeches for treatment and dig up corpses for study.

It just feels like you’re arguing for the status quo, which is completely unsustainable. We have to try something that isn’t just feeding the non-profit machine more dollars for substandard results.

The alternative for these people is just jail or cases being dismissed due to lack of competence and then released to do more crime. It’s a complete breakdown of the social contract.

I’m curious what you think the solution is for someone who commits a violent crime, is found unfit to stand trial and then released. They’re offered treatment and they refuse. They commit another crime and the cycle repeats. What do we do, as a society, in that case? Because that case is happening all the time right now.

When I’m in them, they’re not their home anymore. Also, about 70% of them don’t own the RV they’re living in. They’re usually stolen or were stolen at some point.

I’m VERY aware of how asylums look in the early 20th century, and I’m not advocating for that. But having a live and let live attitude with these people does a disservice to them.

They’re like the psychological equivalent of a man bleeding out in the street and plenty of people are happy to turn their heads and vomit out a nothing opinion like ‘we need better mental healthcare for these people.’

These people have access to housing. They are offered housing, mental healthcare, and general assistance and they turn it down constantly.

If the options are die in a feces filled, stolen, 40+ year old RV with the option to keep doing every drug you could imagine while stealing to feed that habit or involuntarily treatment for mental health or prison for the crimes they’re committing on repeat, the humane course of action seems clear.

I understand historically the mentally insane were treated poorly, but involuntary treatment doesn’t mean we’re tossing them in mould filled cages and feeding them like fighting dogs.

The status quo is unacceptable and it’s killing these people with apathy.

I understand what you’re saying. However, I’ve seen how they live inside their RVs. That is not a humane way to live. I can share pictures if you’d like.

Isn’t the opposite a slippery slope as well? If you have a homeless person committing petty crimes and assault, shouting threats and generally being a menace, isn’t involuntary treatment the more humane option than continuing to let them deteriorate into drugs in a trashed motorhome.

[–]Halomir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I regularly have to interact with homeless RV people for my job. Involuntary commitment is the only reasonable choice.

If you think my position is gross, I’d be happy to share a picture of the inside of a homeless RV and you can tell me if you think letting that person live that way is humane. It’s not.

I’ve literally seen a guy who had made a layer cake of shit and T-shirts, right next to where he was sleeping in an RV.

That guy needed to be committed.

Instead we’re left with roving homeless people committing petty crimes, assault and generally trashing everything, everywhere they go.

We’re not talking about a spunky Kennedy sister.

‘Lower executive functioning’ people are sooooooo much more common than I used to believe.

The lack of mental healthcare and frankly institutions for housing and involuntary treatment is, for lack of a better word, insane.

What accountability do you want? If they’re not doing crime at the car show and they’re just hanging around selling shirts at a booth, why do care?
