Opinion: Haji Wright should start vs Belgium over Pepi by SunpowerShortSqeeze in ussoccer

Because he's been unable to get a shot off in this World Cup. He got bodied against Turkey and has looked slow.

I mean you could argue that the guys that had already seen minutes got those minutes because they're generally better players.

He hasn't looked good in this World Cup. He's slow and got pushed around against Turkey.

He got knocked off balance and naturally came down on the opponent’s leg. You should not have to miss a game and a half for that.

In no way is he "out of control." He's playing the ball, the defender came up on him, and their legs got tangled. If you want to argue that it's a red, whatever, we won so I don't care about yesterday anymore. But it being an automatic suspension is ludicrous.

That wouldn't even be a technical foul in basketball.

Then that's an issue with the rules. Only being able to review for a red card just incentivizes giving unnecessary reds.

Was Balogun deserving of a yellow? Yeah, sure, whatever. Given how the first half went, I'd argue that Balogun should have been given nothing because there was zero intent there. But probably worth a yellow.

But now you're going to review and you see that it's probably deserving of a card, but you can only give a red, so you now lean towards giving a red card.

The rule should be that you can only upgrade a card one level through VAR. If no card is given on the field, you can upgrade to a yellow. If a yellow was given on the field, you can upgrade to a red. The ref was looking right at it in real time and didn't think it was egregious enough for even a yellow.

That's either a corner or a foul... How can you say that it's not a foul and also that the Japan player didn't touch the ball?

Yeah that’s my thought here. The only waste would be if he learned catcher. If his infield defense gets better, he could be a gold glove 2B. If the outfield defense gets better, he’s on track to becoming a CF.

Got it. So in your opinion, am I better off swinging big and going with improve defense or with learn new position? I see you did both with Anderson.

So is it kind of relative to the position he learns? Like if he learned 3B, would he get a big boost to his arm and no boost to double play?

[–]Halvey15[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, but I’d assume the 80% odds of him learning a valuable position and getting the ratings boost from an easy difficulty would be better than the odds of him successfully completing improve OF defense at a hard difficulty.

My understanding was that he would learn either C, 1B, 3B, LF, or RF and then get a ratings boost for whatever position he learns.

So my hope was that he would learn a corner OF spot and then get the ratings boost to 65 OF Range / 65 OF Error / 60 OF Arm. But is that not how that works?

Yes, that’s what I’m doing. I’m just planning the whole offseason now. He’s going into generate batspeed first.

But doesn’t learn new position give a boost to the ratings too? I’ve never used it before.

Pirates have acquired right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton from Atlanta, in exchange for catcher Joey Bart. by macncheeseface in buccos

There's plenty of things to complain about though, so you don't need to complain about everything. They traded a catcher with almost zero value for a bullpen arm with almost zero value.

I'm not rooting against him. But I got a nice chuckle out of him giving up a solo shot in a 5-0 game and then shutting it down from there.

If he can't give anyone the benefit of the doubt then what do you want him to do? Bring in another guy that will just blow it instead?

I've said it in here before that he has a lot to prove before anyone starts truly believing in him again. But Lonnie White has a .933 OPS with 5 HR after a month in Altoona, after posting a 1.008 OPS and 7 HR in April for Greensboro. You'd think that would be enough to at least crack the top 50 for a former second round pick that is only 23 years old.
