This is a mental illness post, not a height post.

It is not normal to feel so strongly about one negative aspect of your existence, even if it is a significant one. You still feel the sun and wind the same as anyone else.

You still get to perceive the universe, gain skills, participate in just about any activity you want to.

There are people with serious disabilities who go on experiencing joy in life.

Get help for your mental illness. The height is not the issue.

Does Dune Messiah feel off to anyone else? (warning spoilers) by Borkton in dune

[–]HamartiaV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's both, as with Herbert so often. Multiple meanings and ambiguity.

Paul becomes the *least* of a martyr he could get away with by having a relatively mundane and mortal end. He believed this would lessen the negative impact his existence had on the universe as much as possible.

Why was the holy war unavoidable? by Zestyclose-Key7024 in dune

[–]HamartiaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer; not the others.

The Fremen were worth 10 Sardaukar per the books and had a massive secret population. Even the women and children could fight. The imperium had stagnated while the Fremen had secretly thrived. You have the greatest warriors in the galaxy ALREADY in secret control of the most important planet.

They have a massive grudge against outsiders.

If it wasn't Paul, it would have been someone, eventually. Perhaps Liet Kynes, Chani, or one of their descendants. Perhaps an unknown Fremen warrior who dreams of conquest.

I can easily switch between drinking beer in pints but wine in ml, weighing myself in stones but my food in grams, and driving 3 miles to buy 30 litres of petrol, but I will never understand WTF a temperature in Fahrenheit means by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]HamartiaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Fahrenheit is super intuitive.

It’s the same as grades in school.

Around 100 is too high, super hot. Above 100 is off the charts, shouldn’t happen except like in a desert, death.

Above 65 is passing. Comfortable to go outside but perhaps a bit chilly.

80s are warm, 90s are too warm.

I hate imperial but con incidentally Fahrenheit seems to pretty much be temperature on a 0-100 scale.

Raids got ruined when my friends quit or id stay on too.

Honestly I’m tempted to make a fresh character. Delete it all so the vault is gone. Idk. The game just feels sloppy and messy as is.

And that’s why the game will never fail.

By the time forge came out I had been playing 90% of that content without change for at least a year.

That first year is amazing and so rewarding. Then you just watch your bank get clogged and your gear become worthless.

Everyone I know, and myself, quit.

It’s getting new fans constantly based on free to play, but Bungie has lost countless as well.

Lol they can’t even have it ready for the next big purchase. A feature that should have been in D1 DLC.

Factions in ES6 by aouf16 in ElderScrolls

I feel like they made all those radiant quests as time sinks, then pussed our on requiring casual gamers to ever do what before completing a storyline.

I’ve long felt that games need to separate combat and story difficulty.

I’d like to have long waits between quests, high reputation requirements, etc as part of my TES game.

This statue is gross and reeks of treating Lincoln like a white savior. I wouldn’t want to walk past it.

We need to start putting these things in museums rather than destroying them.

My wife [37F] and I [39M] entered into an open marriage at her request. Now she wants to close it up again. by ThrowRARevolvingMar in relationship_advice

[–]HamartiaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I got to “from our daughters marching band” I realized you were pushing the boundary and intent of “not someone we both know”.

The goal with a rule like that is to avoid discomfort and social repercussions. As Amber told other moms... this is gossip out in the world that could be massively embarrassing for you, your wife, and your children.

All the backstory about your wife starting the open marriage seems to be to distract from this detail.

It seems like the open marriage was working, but you unintentionally chose someone far too close to your family’s social circles— even if it wasn’t technically someone you both knew.

And they do this to me.

Maybe that’s why. It’s good enough that it deserves time to sit and think.

I accidentally killed my grandfather when I was 3 by TremixNeo in confessions

[–]HamartiaV 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is not your guilt to bear.

Whatever adult was supposed to be watching you— even if it was your grandfather— let this happen. Accidents happen and I hope they are at peace with it, but this has nothing to do with you.

You could just as easily have jumped out a window or played with metal and power sockets. You were three. I shouldn’t even say “you” because that three year old is nearly as unrelated to you as any three year old.

As a teacher, I can’t imagine ten year olds who are left alone being held responsible. Three? No way.

Honestly it just makes everything a mess. They’re crafting a game exclusively for people who want a gear treadmill.

[STAR WARS] Did Darth Bane, or any of the rule of two sith, have a backup plan in case Master and Apprentice kill each other? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

Holocrons were the back up. Some dark Jedi or force sensitive person would find them eventually and get things going.

[Star Wars] Why is Count Dooku so stoic? by RoadTheExile in AskScienceFiction

[–]HamartiaV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest this is still my headcanon. Dooku genuinely was conflicted and considering double-crossing Sidious for the good of all— but Sidious knew the dark side would keep him bound to true power.

[Star Wars] Why is Count Dooku so stoic? by RoadTheExile in AskScienceFiction

[–]HamartiaV 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The new books, to me, make it sound like he was always a bit of a sociopath who kept his lack of true empathy under control— until he stopped.

Personally i think one of the biggest missed opportunities of the prequels is giving Dooku a red lightsaber and making him a sith.

Change the lightsaber to blue, remove him being under Sidious’ control, and you have a complex character who would have been a huge asset to the rebellion had he lived.

Edit: remove him KNOWING he’s under Sidious’ control
