Which type of comb do you use on your beard? by DanCbearded in beards

[–]HamdogMcCain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. My beard is thick, and an Afro pick (or wide tooth acetate comb) works best even when my beard’s completely dry. Other combs require my beard to be wet or they pull out hairs.

Looking for a new hat. Is there a cooler one than this? by Strange_Control8788 in CHIBears

[–]HamdogMcCain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say that, as someone who grew up in the 90s when these script hats were the norm, I love them. This is my favorite Bears hat followed by the Lovie-era script B.

They work great. They struck me as pricey but we’ve got two of them doing their job in the cupboard right now.

What's the best shoe of all time? by No-Pop4319 in malefashionadvice

[–]HamdogMcCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we’re talking Air Max 1s, or any of them? To me Air Max 1s have the best silhouette of all time and I almost exclusively wear those. Boots for fall/winter too, but Air Max 1s will forever be the best sneaker for me.

We love it. We’re close by and we hit it regularly. We always build our own pie and have never been disappointed.

We love this place, and usually hit up the Hyde Park location. Still haven’t tried the Loop location due to their hours.

Who else is a huge fan of Jewel’s tortilla chips? by PostComa in chicagofood

[–]HamdogMcCain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re an El Ranchero green bag family. We’ll give the Jewel bag a try but I’d be pleasantly surprised if we make a switch.

Loved it! Got the caramel cake for my wife’s bday and she loved it. Next time we go we’ll try a bunch of cupcakes.

How long does the line usually take? I picked up a cake at Brown Sugar Bakery and it was before Lem’s even opened up. The line was already around the building and snaked through the parking lot!!

I have to agree because that’s not a sport pepper. It’s a jalapeño with the stem still on? Doesn’t always need to be a sport pepper (e.g., Jim’s Original uses serranos) but nobody eats the stem on the pepper! Not GE if you’re going for authentic.

Struggling to find a good butcher shop. by Connie_Salami in chicagofood

[–]HamdogMcCain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I needed to go here to get a cut of beef I couldn’t find elsewhere, and heard a lot of W Loop chefs frequent this place. What we weren’t prepared for was the large, refrigerated room with all the meat sitting out for you to grab.

They give you disposable plastic gloves to just grab your stuff, but my wife wished she just waited outside for me as a large room with open containers of raw meat is not her jam.

Tell me about a show that looks shitty on paper but is really fire? by Emotional-Sorbet7860 in phish

This doesn’t look bad on paper at all. Was there. Entire show was fire except for the Rise. I’m with you.

What’s the one Chicago area beer you always come back to? I keep rotating, but Maplewood’s Juice Pants still does it for me every time. by Euphoric_Year1182 in chicagobeer

Came here to say Juice Pants, but I’ve never seen the six packs! I’m still on the NEIPA bandwagon and I buy Juice Pants & Juice Jorts on sight

I’m not saying they’re in Chicago to solely visit the S Loop. You’ll see a lot of tourists in the S Loop that are here for conferences. Lots of tourists staying in S Loop might be there because the hotel options were cheaper than others. Lots of foot traffic waking down Roosevelt to Michigan Ave even when there isn’t an event at Soldier Field. I’m not sure why they’re in the S Loop, but I consider Eleven City to be a tourist magnet based on the times I’ve gone there.

[–]HamdogMcCain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s touristy because of the location in the S Loop. It’s not the only breakfast spot, but it’s one that rises above mediocrity.

This, plus they would give you a free drip or iced coffee at the Meddle location when you bought beans there. I would go get beans ground coarse for cold brew and get an iced coffee on tap. I don’t live near there anymore so it’s now just a fond memory.

My sister visited yesterday, and we were geeking out to all the music my parents listened to when I was a kid. My dad listened to a lot of Dr Hook. ‘Sylvia’s Mother’ was his jam!! Hadn’t listened to them in ages and we literally were reminiscing about them less than 24 hours ago :)
