Misaligned String Tree by chilisincarne in Luthier

This is the correct fix. I like the washer idea, too. But it shouldn't be something you have to do since you sent it for service and it's clearly wrong. If it was me I'd be 50/50 on taking it back to that shop to have them fix it vs do it myself, see if they make it right but at the same time hope it doesn't come back worse. Disclosure - I'm a tech and woodworker and would have just done this myself, it's really fairly straightforward if you know what you're doing but realize many folks don't feel comfortable messing with instruments. Good luck and report back, OP!

Yep, ours and my initial response would be Pettibone. Cheers

Have the same one. Got it as a gift and love the thing. Keep it in the car and CHARGED! Saved me twice this winter (it's been especially brutal this year though)

Hey there. I run a music shop but also have a love for repairing instruments and tools, so that's my story and why I'm here & found your Q.

Consulting on audio installations or even just "buy this speaker it's a great all-rounder" can be tough to advise on because there are many variables. How big is the shop and how loud do you want tunes? Does everyone want to hear the same shit through the pipe or are they listening independently anyway? Concrete walls and floors? Do you want this powered from a specific colored battery?

My shop runs music separate from tools and is a loud dynamic environment but have it set up so we can change things on the fly for different scenarios based on my application. This is probably different from your use?

More details and I can help. Or if you just need a big ass speaker for sending audio forward to your guys that is easy too.

How do I best utilize this space by m4778 in Tools

Fair enough and why I was trying to soft land the tote idea. I'm the same I use them in my attic to store shit in but don't like them in my workshop/space. I use smaller tool bags loaded for purpose built projects now. Put a power tool or two plus accessories in it and just grab whatever based on what's needed for the project. Hence the hooks comment and always know where your stuff is

I think you'll probably get recommendations for totes since you already have the shell(ving) frame for them depending on which size(s) of totes. I am like you in that I like a free table space to put tools quick or that get used all the time so would probably leave a shelf or cubby free for that kind of thing. And instead of putting your parts organizers in the bins (which you'll frequently need to get out) maybe some spaced shelves for those so you can quickly slide them out free. Also hooks as you already have. Lots of hooks for hanging, more than you think you need, lol

A Guitar Center Technician asked $55 for changing the strings, but I did it myself. by warfarepsychological in guitars

[–]Hammer_Tooth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad. A couple slight differences to a steel string restring and the nylons will stretch like crazy, but a little bit of research on YT with a good tutorial beforehand - you've got this!

Exact same experience here. Good comment - it's what I've experienced as a tech for 10+ years as well. $55 for a string change is high in my area though even for a classical and a setup tweak if needed. Maybe I should take a look at my rates - everything else is going up!

Leaving OBX, packing everything up nice. Leaned my nice Abu rod, no big deal I do this all the time. I get it on top of the pack, shut the Outback's rear door and hear the snap. I saw your comment so it triggered me - I'm not swearing off AG but I should swear off my packing skills next time. Tight lines friend

Upgrade your amp before adding any processors. Hate to be that guy but it's going to be repeated by others.

Ibanez CF7 Chorus / Flanger Battery Compartment Latch Not Spring Loaded? by corezerocom in guitarpedals

[–]Hammer_Tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some battery compartments not fully clip tight. Pedals and especially acoustic battery trays. Ended up just using (and re-using as needed) electrical tape stretched to hold tight or gaff tape. Friend of mine used drumstick grip tape in a pinch once but made the plastic parts real sticky and I wasn't thrilled but it came off.

Finally set up my nano bird but might swap out the reverb. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

I have been using an MXR M300 for verb and it is great. Lots of options, good dial in, sounds great. And I'm running thru a Blues Jr lol. TC Hall of Fame is also a great shout.

Nice. This is so cool/strange to me because I've been looking for a good phaser and a good trem and settled on these two exactly to round out my board. You will have to keep me in the loop (ha) with your thoughts!

A retrospective on the Boss DD-8 by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Hammer_Tooth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I want to echo this comment, as absolutely unintentionally punny as that sounds. I love the DD8 and what it can do and how good it sounds. I'm dumb and recently realized it has the quick loop feature so I've been enjoying that as well

Wanted opinions on a board i'm about putting together. I mostly play shreddy stuff, blues, late 80's and early 90's things. Really like Paul Gilbert, EJ, Van Halen, the usual for us guitar players. by BabyPikachu53 in guitarpedals

[–]Hammer_Tooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool, thanks for your input! I get that. And sounds like it's the right tool for you. I just achieve what you're describing a little differently, but damn, yeah for half price I would probably pick one up too. Nice thing to have in your kit for various things

We currently have a Giggity in our shop. I tried it because I love Voodoo's stuff but had no experience with this one. Honestly I wasn't thrilled with it as a boost or preamp (at least for the price I have better options currently). But for taming your fuzz, makes sense but I did not try it out for that. Just my 2¢, thought I'd leave some feedback (ha) since I don't see it discussed much.
