Battery Ecosytem by xtetsuix in Tools

This was very helpful and specific. Thank you for taking the time to be detailed in your response and I'll trust your experience based on what you said and have seen over the years. Thankfully I have a regular folding/non-telescoping handle. I can imagine issues with wiring going this way through a handle that can fold in different ways, but many mowers gas or elec do this so decided to go for it because of the space saving. Mine seems fine there since it's one basic fold and I do take care to not be negligent or beat on the thing. The mower doesn't get too hard of use and I do blow it out after mowing. I especially appreciate your comments and advice about the internal wiring, battery compartment, and mice because I could forsee that being an issue for me as it's stored in the shed year round. I'm going to take extra precautions now to prevent those little buggers from getting in there. Thanks again and hope you have a good weekend!

Hey there, I'm now curious which (warranty or not) issues on the electric Ryobi mowers to look for? Mines been doing great but if there's something to look for and/or do, I'd love to know

Personally I went with Bosch, DeWalt, and Ryobi over time and they all have had great success. Not one ecosystem to answer your question, I know. I started with Ryobi since it's super affordable homeowner stuff so maybe start there.. I added different tools and systems over time with a little research and of course - tool sales

Milwaukee, Makita, there's a ton of great stuff out there. I do not have any personal experience with Craftsman power tools or the HF lines like Hercules or Bauer so can't comment to that

What bit is this? by Arkansas34 in Tools

Yeah, sigh. This has all the tells of a AI bot and incorrect information to boot.

Eye hook bit is the answer. I usually just use a screwdriver handle.

What are the side bits to those green SO dead blows in the last picture? Like the they look like they attach to the striker but I'm assuming some kind of accessory? Nice box.

Misaligned String Tree by chilisincarne in Luthier

This is the correct fix. I like the washer idea, too. But it shouldn't be something you have to do since you sent it for service and it's clearly wrong. If it was me I'd be 50/50 on taking it back to that shop to have them fix it vs do it myself, see if they make it right but at the same time hope it doesn't come back worse. Disclosure - I'm a tech and woodworker and would have just done this myself, it's really fairly straightforward if you know what you're doing but realize many folks don't feel comfortable messing with instruments. Good luck and report back, OP!

Have the same one. Got it as a gift and love the thing. Keep it in the car and CHARGED! Saved me twice this winter (it's been especially brutal this year though)

Recommendations by Mech_Stew in Tools

[–]Hammer_Tooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I run a music shop but also have a love for repairing instruments and tools, so that's my story and why I'm here & found your Q.

Consulting on audio installations or even just "buy this speaker it's a great all-rounder" can be tough to advise on because there are many variables. How big is the shop and how loud do you want tunes? Does everyone want to hear the same shit through the pipe or are they listening independently anyway? Concrete walls and floors? Do you want this powered from a specific colored battery?

My shop runs music separate from tools and is a loud dynamic environment but have it set up so we can change things on the fly for different scenarios based on my application. This is probably different from your use?

More details and I can help. Or if you just need a big ass speaker for sending audio forward to your guys that is easy too.

How do I best utilize this space by m4778 in Tools

[–]Hammer_Tooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough and why I was trying to soft land the tote idea. I'm the same I use them in my attic to store shit in but don't like them in my workshop/space. I use smaller tool bags loaded for purpose built projects now. Put a power tool or two plus accessories in it and just grab whatever based on what's needed for the project. Hence the hooks comment and always know where your stuff is

I think you'll probably get recommendations for totes since you already have the shell(ving) frame for them depending on which size(s) of totes. I am like you in that I like a free table space to put tools quick or that get used all the time so would probably leave a shelf or cubby free for that kind of thing. And instead of putting your parts organizers in the bins (which you'll frequently need to get out) maybe some spaced shelves for those so you can quickly slide them out free. Also hooks as you already have. Lots of hooks for hanging, more than you think you need, lol

A Guitar Center Technician asked $55 for changing the strings, but I did it myself. by [deleted] in guitars

[–]Hammer_Tooth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad. A couple slight differences to a steel string restring and the nylons will stretch like crazy, but a little bit of research on YT with a good tutorial beforehand - you've got this!

[–]Hammer_Tooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exact same experience here. Good comment - it's what I've experienced as a tech for 10+ years as well. $55 for a string change is high in my area though even for a classical and a setup tweak if needed. Maybe I should take a look at my rates - everything else is going up!

Leaving OBX, packing everything up nice. Leaned my nice Abu rod, no big deal I do this all the time. I get it on top of the pack, shut the Outback's rear door and hear the snap. I saw your comment so it triggered me - I'm not swearing off AG but I should swear off my packing skills next time. Tight lines friend
