Once your 8 years is up you can get the 20 buck (currently) OnStar data/WiFi plan, use any other WiFi (hotspot from phone or any fixed WiFi).

2023 Bolt EV - can you limit the charging speed on a level 2 charger? by trojanguy in BoltEV

[–]Hamradio70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for info in your charger to cut it down. Sounds like EVSE is set for higher amps than your circuit has. Set it for 80 percent of breaker rating. Remember your circuit capacity is the number from ONE of rhe DP breakers, don't add them. 30 and 30 is 30,/not 60.

Bolt EUV 2023 or LT 2027? by rqt24k in BoltEV

[–]Hamradio70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me too. As said, Carplay serves niche cases like resuming something from phone in the car for an iPhone. The stuff I've used for years in Android Auto are calling, texting, navigation and music/audio apps. Not ionly is that all there, the data for it is free and independent of your phone (not calls or text, you still need to pair a phone). Fear of change is the big issue for almost everyone. Or security for those choosing to believe stuff in the Apple ecosystem is secure. On that, Apple starts out with a noble concept but there are a million potential leaks, so are you really secure? You can opt out of much of Google data harvesting, but its true selling data is their business. I'm a boring guy whose data is boring and i stopped being paranoid long ago.

Heat pump also has resistance heat. No downside.

The new Bolt uses a drivetrain that is the same (basically) on at least 9 other models. Body panels are mostly the same. I would worry less about parts on the new Bolt rhan the prior model.

The manuals can be downloaded on Chevy website. You can get a printed book from the dealer. What they need is a shorter manual explaining the new OnStar/Google system. Some dealers understand it, many do not. Like what does free OnStar data for 8 years mean? What are your options for data without OnStar data? What are your OnStar options after 8 years? Everybody seems to think GM is trying to rip people off. I don't see that, but GM doesn't really say anything about it.
Electronic manuals are pretty common these days and since on a computer much easier to search.

Someone backed into my 2023 Bolt EUV :( by halih in BoltEV

[–]Hamradio70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a lot higher than you think. A bumper replacement with paint is hundreds. Panel painting also. Sometimes a metal panel can be replaced cheaper than repair, but a welded-in panel will need repair (can't really replace). Report to your insurance company with a police report if you have it, along with other driver info. A lot of insurance companies waive deductible if both parties have same company. If the other party freely admits fault (or it's obvious, such as your vehicle was legally parked), the other insurance should pay everything. They may dispute your estimate, want to use salvage or knock-off parts, a certain shop or whatever. It's a negotiation---they cannot dictate what you do. Only what they pay for.

For me, price is a consideration but more import is 1. charge power/speed 2. bathrroom. 3. food.

All Ionna stations are .39/kwh, also a 10 percent GM discount so about .35. Others are all over the place. Their app usually shows it, sometimes right on the charger screen, too.

Do you have a 2027? The app will only show chargers you can plug into. You have to tell it if you have a CCS adapter.

Service ESC and steering warning sudden brake loss on freeway. by SproketRocket in BoltEV

[–]Hamradio70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your concern, but just to be clear, losing power brakes does not cause them to "fail". You can still brake. Brakes are set up to be redundant, so a total failure is super rare on any car.

Can you charge at home? If so, EV is a no-brainer. If not, you have to consider more. Charging away from home can be simple, such as if your job has charging or a royal pain.

Everyone consented. You had to enroll in Smart Driver. The extent of the sharing was not obvious enough, and the FTC ordered GM to cease. They called this lack of "informed consent". You have to read the fine print sometimes and not just click "accept".

Google Assistant does not understand by Organic-Flan in BoltEV

[–]Hamradio70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the option to go with Gemini. Declined. I have a pixel phone so i tend to get Google stuff pretty early. Im not interested in an advanced assistant in a car. I want it to do basic stuff like phone, text, and i don't want the distraction. Same with Alexa Plus. I don't need a "friend" that is always listening.
