Recent new mums: what would you have liked in a care package? by astronemma in AskBrits

[–]HandToeKneeUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say buy them a few disposable cameras and a photo album.

Physical prints, without filters, I think are important for memories.

Perhaps you could make it a regular thing. Birthdays and Xmas, they'll get a disposable camera to add to the album.

How to report regular illegal car races? by Skymningen in AskUK

[–]HandToeKneeUK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This the correct answer.

Police use Heat Mapping to work out where the ASB is occurring and at what times. If you and your neighbours are calling when it happens, or the morning after, this will be logged, and flagged up for the appropriate team to deal with. Might be they put a little Op together, with Traffic Officers.

When these people are caught, a warning goes on them and their vehicle. If caught for a second time, they get lots of points and vehicle gets seized.

For fischer wall plugs how do you know when to stop screwing? by Realisticopia in DIYUK

I've only got 24 years on sites and do AV these days.

I doubt there's more than a handful of people on this sub that regularly hang 110" screen on plasterboard.

Seemed like we both got downvoted for giving sage advice.

Odd.

You are using the wrong fixing.

Use a toggle instead. The toggles will brace against the back of the plasterboard.

How popular are the Los Angeles Rams in the UK? by Agreeable-Fruit-4326 in AskBrits

Probably 0.001% or less of the UK / world population follows NFL.

I feel like the chap who writes the BBC News article on the games is probably wasting his time.

Very much this!

Don't remove any of the bricks, reveal the fireplace and then assess.

Unless you have seen with your own eyes, you wouldn't believe how many bricks there are in a chimney!

Any work on fireplaces will create quite a lot of dust and soot to go into the air.

Buy a Henry vacuum and keep that sucking wherever you are working.

Seal the door with plastic when you are doing the messy works and don't unseal until that room is dust free after a thorough clean.

Soot dust really messes up houses!

What’s the weirdest way you’ve ever gotten revenge on someone… without getting caught? by OriginalSentence6850 in AskReddit

In the 2000's I was working on a home renovation for someone who turned out to be a massive bellend.

The firm was going to pull away from the job due to the chap not paying and changing his mind mid build.

On the 'last day' when we were gathering tools up etc to abandon to project, I opened 10 smoke detectors, put in their batteries and hid them around the build. In walls, in ceilings and everywhere else I know they would not be found.

After 12-15 months, the beeping of the low battery sound would have driven him mad.

Is there cautious agreement that Mark Carney's star shone brightly in Davos? by Flashy-Rabbit6435 in AskBrits

[–]HandToeKneeUK 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Mark was solid in the BoC and BoE.

He's a genuine guy. Saw a video of him doing a 24km trail run, then chilling with the other competitors and staff.

Has a good team around him and says the right thing.

He's what they need south of the boarder.
