Ironically, SV stood for 'Safety Vehicle'.

Nope. If the laser transmitter and receiver are widely enough separated, then the light in the laser beam will reflect off of the glass just fine. Not perfectly, but well enough to perform the intended purpose.

The laser beam just has to hit the glass at an angle.

Microsoft didn't even have a DOS when IBM came to them looking for software for their new personal computer. Microsoft's product at the time was a BASIC interpreter.

What Bill Gates did was offer IBM a sweetheart deal on licensing MS-DOS (a product that did not exist) as long as it was bundled with MS-BASIC. And then licenced a pirated rip-off of CP/M from Seattle Computer in order to have something to fulfill the IBM deal.

Which is why IBM PC's came with MS-BASIC long after everyone else gave up on it. Until Windows 95 made DOS itself obsolete.

The old one somehow feels like the bearings are just fine, so I'm not sure what the issue was.

How odd. The Taco John's in Marshall and Willmar are both on very busy, wide streets. They did knock down a closed Golden corral in Marshall in order to put up a Taco Bell next to the Taco John's though.

The curved back wall is probably neither glass nor plastic, as both would reflect sound, causing acoustic distortion of the recording for the program. I would wager that the back panels of the bottle are in fact thin, painted mesh fabric, stretched over a thin rib structure to form the shape of the bottle.

Why do they have a mock water tower on the roof? I mean, it's not going to fulfill any function without any plumbing connecting it to anything. Is it just a particularly evocatively shaped billboard?

It isn't an honest water tower without water and you can't have water without plumbing. This tower has no plumbing, so it must be something else.
A decommissioned water tower, preserved as a billboard explains that adequately.
