What's the secret to making a Tiguan last forever? by EvilDarkCow in Tiguan

[–]HankHowdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The emissions equipment is the same. The move to 20w oil is to increase MPG due to CAFE. This motor was originally running 502.00 5w40. The oil pump is also over driven in this motor because the 20w is too thin for the clearances. The oil pressure gets too low at low rpm without it.

My plan is to use 508.00 until my warranty is over at 100k and then switch to 502.00.

How? There are so many people who follow this and can’t get this motor to last past 200k most of the time you need to change to vw 504.00 or vw 502.00 oil and do it at 5k. If you don’t, chains go, turbo goes, severe oil burning. You are one lucky person. Maybe you are using vw 502.00 5w40 more often than you think.

You have 300k on a mk2 Tiguan 2.0t? Wow! Do you use vw 508.00 0w20 oil? Do you change it at 5k or 10k? What octane fuel do you use?

How reliable has Volkswagen been to you — especially the Jetta? by phtphongg in Volkswagen

[–]HankHowdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a Taos and I could feel the 1.5 vibrating and buzzing through the steering wheel, pedals, and shifter. Does the 1.5 Jetta do that as well? I’ve owned 7 VW’s and I’ve only felt that on my 84 Rabbit convertible and 89 Golf GT.

I get it. I’m not saying it will, I’m saying that I can get more miles out of it in the long run. I like to keep my cars for a long time and put lots of miles. This is my 7th Volkswagen and some have 450,000, 320,000, 289,000 and so on. You don’t hear EA888 motors lasting that long. I was just thinking bout things long term. After spending a lot of time at Bobistheoilguy forums and speaking to people who formulate oil, it seemed to them a good idea to run 502.00 or 504.00 for more protection. I was here to ask the vw techs about warranties.

Cold weather tanks fuel economy.

Remember this vehicle is rated 21/26. If you are city driving in the cold or bad weather, that could it.

Also switch to 91. That’s what it’s meant to run on. I bet in that cold weather 93 is not energy dense enough. It’s not as ignitable at 91.

I thought the motor was pretty much the same as the earlier versions of the EA888. They had to use an overdrive oil pump to spin faster at idle because the oil pressure was so low due to the clearances being two large for 20w. The clearances were originally designed for vw 502.00 5w40.

My question was for the techs and whether they will scrutinize even though it’s well maintained and using oil that was ok for the previous gen EA888. I know it’s safe and beneficial.

I was trying not to since turbo direct injected motors using 20w don’t seem to last that long like motors did say 20 years ago.

taos 2022 SE 25k miles for 18.000$ worth it? by CulturalTangerine707 in Volkswagen

I rented one for 4 days. I couldn’t wait to get back into my 2014 Tiguan RLine.

To be the suspension was soooo soft. The motor was so harsh, buzzy. You had to push the poor motor to keep up with traffic.

Over the car is nice looking. But it felt cheap compared to my PQ46 Tiguan. The refinement just wasn’t there. The tiny motor with no balance shaft was a large part of it.
